Okami (Wantirna) - Japanese All You Can Eat

Beef capaccio is always my favourite dish!
Chicken karage was a bit chewy and oily, Tempura seafood was only 2 prawns and 1 piece of sweet potato but otherwise food came out quickly and service was friendly. Definitely be back.

The food was five star (as always), but the service provided by the young "man" on "freedom" day when I collected my online order was terrible - one star. Pushing the receipt into my face to confirm my order and then shoving my food package into my body is not the level of service I have become accustomed to at Okami (Wantirna).

I put it down to the stress we are all under currently, hence a three star review overall. I sincerely hope it was a one off slip in service.

Super worth eat all you can buffet. The staffs were amazing. Thank you for accomodating us even we were late for half an hour. You guys are awesomely beautiful.

This is what you expect for a typical buffet restaurant. Not bad food but not good either. Plenty of things on the menu for you to choose. I guess if you just want to eat to make yourself full, then it’s not bad value. If you want to come here for the taste, then don’t bother. The steamed egg had a really weird flavour combination of random vegetables inside it…. The meats were meh. Nothing special in flavour that stood out for me. The only thing that tasted nice was the green tea/sesame ice cream. The service from the waitress was average.

I don’t recommend coming here if you want any kind of quality food. I remember a few years ago Okami was still $29.80 per person and the quality was still okay, but at that time I haven’t been to stores other than Hampton and Caulfield. I think this is a franchise one, which might explain the differences in quality. I understand that with COVID and general inflation it’s normal for prices to go up, but at $36.80 per person the standard of food leaves more to be desired. We were there for the 5pm sitting and pretty much everything tasted pre-prepared and lukewarm or cold (yes, even the dishes that were meant to be hot). The only passable ones were probably the beef carpaccio (albeit sliced super thin), squid and mushroom salad, and yaki udon. Even the miso soup was way too salty and we had to add hot water to dilute it. Overall, I’d rather pay a bit more to have better food elsewhere.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was brought out quickly and meals were served fresh and hot! We enjoyed all of the menu items we ordered as part of the all you can eat banquet, and left very satisfied and full! Very reasonable price for a banquet too.

Thought it’s a popular restaurant and yes for sure! There were few dishes we ordered didn’t come to us. Too busy and lack staff. I wouldn’t be happy if working there. Sashimi was a surprising as you can see from the picture, a few pieces of raw fish on the side called sashimi and sushi dishes. I guess it required you to eat more rice to get full quickly! In general, it wasn’t that good as I thought!

The service is friendly, and food arrives relatively fast after ordering.
The preparation and recipes are not particularly accurate by Japanese standard.
The tempura batter was too thick and hard; the flavour of karaage chicken was plain and lacked flavour; the yakiniku beef did not look grilled.
We ordered the tempura seafood 3 times, and all were different quantities.
Can do much better.

Food was nice. Service was fine. The only thing we can complain was that they didn’t let us in before the booking time. Everyone (other customers) was outside waiting for the shop to open the door. Even though we can see some empty tables in there, they still didn’t allow anyone to go in.

Good food at a reasonable price. We had phoned the evening before and booked a table, when we arrived they had set the table and included a high chair and baby plates for the one year old. Great customer service.

This place is unbelievably great!

Literally, I cannot believe how good the food is for as much as you can stomach. Every piece was worth savouring.

The staff were great too - friendly, funny, quick to help out.

Head down with a couple of people or a group, you'll have a great time.

Some hits and misses on the menu, but generally a good buffet option for special occasions. Wonderful team of servers who are fast on their feet and works well together. Attentive when taking orders and does not come across as flippant. Food wise, love their sashimi, not big on the sushi, but their buffet menu does not allow ordering of sashimi alone. Inevitably, I've wasted some rice. My orders of soup, chawanmushi and fried items came lukewarm, which affected the enjoyment of these meant to be hot items. All in all, as i said, some hits and some misses.

One word - no two - ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!
Love the food, the service is really friendly and fast - have raved about Okami to all my family, friends and workmates. Definitely a restaurant I will come back to again & again

This is one of my fav places to eat out. They have so much variety and it's all you can eat for a good price. The staff are lovely and even remember us. The food here is delicious

Small place, but there was an upstairs that I did not go to. Maybe more seats. We had a table of 13 and the wait staff were here patient and accomodating with us. Food was good for the buffet.

Worst service I've ever seen, had a party of 8 fighting over one plate at a time after we ordered easily 10, there were about 20 minutes between each small plate coming out, whereas the table next to us had numerous at once, they had also come in an hour after us, yet had gotten all of their food within 30 mins.

Apparently our orders got "Lost". 3 times. 3 Times! We were waiting for 3 hours and got all of 5 plates of food, not nearly enough food on them to feed 3 of us.the waitress ignored our calls for them yet had the time to come over and ask if we wanted to order any food every time it was "lost". This sort of customer service is absolutely atrocious.

We will never be coming back and we will be telling everyone we know about this experience and to avoid this restaurant at all costs.

Very disappointed.
