Okami - Footscray reviews
69Love Okami I have been to Brunswick Footscray and Niddrie and all are great value and the food has always been spot on.
For a place that does all you can eat, it was very disorganised.
I addressed myself as the party leader but when it came to ordering I was ignored. They went to the ends of the table they prepared for us and ignored the middle.
Okami corporate needs to upgrade to a QR code or ipad system for each table. Having 1 ipad and using written orders will result in missing orders.
Food was also missing for more than 30 minutes when they were ordered at around the same time. I understand being understaffed is a thing these days but it's not acceptable.
Food eventually came out but more than half table doesn't know what's happening and food given wasn't ordered or wanted by the half of the table that WASN'T talked to.
We're a table of 14 so it's expected that we are going to order a lot.
I've been to Okami in Sydney twice and it was never THIS disappointing.
Only thing I can say is that at least the food is good.
We were quite disappointed with the food to be honest. We had something similar back home in NZ that's why we had high expectations. I was surprised we were not allowed to have just the sashimi, it has to come with sushi as a platter. I told them hubby doesn't eat seafood or sushi so it will just be me finishing the whole dish by myself, unfortunately they can't do anything. I assume this is to prevent them losing money if customers only ordering sashimi. The portion of some dishes are confusing, the Edamame beans, seaweed salad and fried rice all came with HUGE portion for two of us, we were very full after all these dishes because we didn't want to get charged penalty for wasting food. If the restaurant make all the dishes small portion (regardless of the table size), that will ensure a better dining experience and less food wastage.
The food is great. It's a little hard to get the staff attention after the first couple of rounds. They had to be reminded to bring several of the things we chose.
Had a wonderful delicious dinner. All you can eat, Variety of Japanese food gotta ask for it and wait while they cook it to perfection? Enjoyed the food recommend going
Went around 6: 30 on a Sunday. Optimal time to go before it gets any busier. The staff were patient and understanding. Food came out in a timely manner but was so worth every bite!:)
I like that they are proactive with food ordering and service. Don't order all at once like the table next to me did. Fresh is best
If you're going to spend $40 on a meal (more with drinks) do yourself a favour and go somewhere nice. Only really value for money if you eat so much you make yourself sick.
The food is delicious and fresh as always at any Okami. The seating is not too crowded, though always booked out.
The only downside the service wasn't amazing. It was just 2 of us at the table and we had to repeatedly try to get any waiters attending to get our order. And we had to order ice cream twice as the first time it was missed, so we sat for 15min with empty table and none came to us to ask if you want anything.
Friendly staff and great food. The dishes come quite quickly. Japanese food can be pricey so the buffet is great if you want to overindulge yourself with many dishes for good a price. Will come again.
Took my Mother and wife great food, and was plated very quickly all ordered dishes plus extras.will Go again
Semi-regular diner here, food is always high quality, comes out quickly and can’t beat the value for all you can eat Japanese.
Great food and good service. From the fav Japanese sushi, tempura, teriyaki chicken and beef etc
All you can eat $36.80pp. I had dinner with friends in Footscray Okami. Tempura veges were not cook enough. Very hard, and deep fry tofu were not crispy either. I will try different locations next time.
Be aware,
Saying open till 11pm on Saturday night
But kitchen close at 9.30pm.its very disappointing
Table and menu were sticky and felt dirty. The service was slow and several times we were brought out the wrong item. Menu items are limited so dont expect a FULL Japanese menu when you arrive
I walked in and was waiting to ask if they were still serving. The sign said “OPEN”. The guy behind the desk didn’t even let me ask and rudely told me that they were closed. He ushered with his hand to get me to leave. I was having a bad day already but to top it off he was being insufferable. This is coming from someone who has worked in hospo for years, I always have empathy for workers. But it was so bad that I decided to write my first ever review.
Have eaten at Okami Brunswick & Okami Fairfield for comparison
Pros:
- Staff are attentive, constantly cleaning our plates and taking orders promptly.
- Price is reasonable for all you can eat - with a good selection
Con:
- The meat quality at this resteraunt is not good, the chicken skewers are incredbly dry and tasteless, the beef was mostly cuts of fat and generally low quality. Since visiting the other resteraunts in 2020 I cant help but feel the quality has gone downhill. This is only one point, but is why we give two stars, as the food was just not good this time.
Will still likely try it again and change my review if I hear things have changed.
Not as good as I had hoped. The food was not as fresh, the sushi tasted cold and the seafood on it wasn't fresh in taste. Fried food also very oily and ice cream was super frozen and not creamy. However I did enjoy the gyoza.
We often dine here, food have always been great, services is exceptional. But of recent portion has been grammatically reduced don't know why. But they will lose customer if this continue as this is not the first time
