New Shanghai Emporium Melbourne reviews
68Decent place to get some old feel of Shanghai. Decoration and space is lovely. Food is generally authentic and tasty. Smoked fish is my favourite. One thing I found strange is that their Shanghai fried bun used raised flour and have it's tip up, whole most of the authentic fried bun would not use raised four and tip is actually facing down at the side being fried.
This is very disappointed, not recommend to this restaurant,We ordered Shanghai smoked fish, only few pieces to servered not worth it with price and price was definitely increased, never come again however the taste of food is good,So I give one more star
Not bad some hits (noodles, dumplings) some misses (pork belly a bit dry). Ordering via phone a little awkward especially for elderly. Good friendly service.
Excellent food and service. I asked what is the dish "Gluten wheat and mushrooms" and the waiter brought out a sample to show me (its like a tofu and is delicious). We also had Drunken Chicken and crab dumplings. My favorite was Peking sauce on stir-fried beef, which comes with fluffy buns, slivers of cucumber, and shredded spring onion. You load up a bun with beef, cucumber and spring onion and pop it your mouth - fantastic!
Food is satisfactory but Very poor customer service though.took 30 minutes to bring a glass of vine sitting next to the bar where hardly any customers in the restaurant due to covid19
Came in a group of 10 and was seated in a private room. With such a large group we were able to try a variety of dishes which were all good and flavoursome. My favourite dishes were the wonton with peanut and chilli oil and Xiao long bao. Prices are quite reasonable.
Not what Shanghai dishes should taste like. Drunken chicken way too salty, pumpkin cakes with red bean were steamed, not fried like they should be and jelly fish not crunchy like it should be.
Well we really like the food and menu here. When it is done right. For me it is The most inconsistant restaurant.such a shame.
Everything was too salty, smelly pork.or not crispy fried and taste different everytime.
But the service is pretty good.
One of my favourite places to experience something different than the usual fare Chinese cuisine has to offer. Great service and the food has never disappointed.
We came here an hour before close and my god, I have never experienced food coming out so fast. The first dish (fried dumpling) literally took like less than a minute. Then the rest of the food came within 8 minutes. Food was good, service was okay. The red bean pancake was fantastic. They are also on the entertainment book so good deal overall. Will return for sure.
Authentic Chinese, Really appreciate the separate seating and the lighting. The main course menu could be a tad larger and diverse than it currently is.
Eggplant with minced pork and pork and chives dumplings are particular favourites here. I didn't like eggplant before eating the dish at this restaurant but now I do.
I don't want to order the dumplings any more after I was sitting in front of the kitchen window for my last meal. They put the basket full of different smaller baskets with cooked dumplings on the kitchen floor.
The veggie dumplings were decent but is a little pricy given the serving size. My meat eating friends did enjoy their meal too. Good decour.
Only had the veggie and steamed veggie dumplings. Did not like them. I don't know about the non-vegetarian options though.
I would give 0 star, a dumpling takeaway takes 30 min, and no one cares as they are too busy, ignorant and customer service is rude. Never see a smile at these people. All they care is new customer, and ask you to give your bar seat away to their new customer.
I can't imagine how unhappy they are working here serving food. Will never be back.
Yummy dumplings and food, friendly service,
love the decor, gets really busy at lunch time, but worth the wait!
I can’t even comment on the food because after being seated no one came to take our order. Waited and waited for anyone to notice. You’d think the person who sat us down would have. Obviously he didn’t. We walked out.
I wouldn’t think so negatively if they were busy. We seemed to be the only new customers. If they don’t want to bother serving people, they shouldn’t have sat us down.
Ordered the noodle soup with pickles. It was tasty but nothing special. Custard buns were yummy. Food is reasonably priced and service is fast and friendly. Would come back again. Cool setting.
Ordered prawn wontons, soup, kun Pao chicken n rice. Everything was delicious
However a little pricey for the quantity.
Service was alright.
