Sushi are very tasty, but Very expensive, sadly found the fish bone in sushi Is not acceptable for this price range

I had very high expectations walking into Minamishima and I can confidently say that they were able to exceed them. Every single detail was exquisite; the food, the service, the interior, the atmosphere even the water pressure was incredible.

We sat at the chefs counter. I highly recommend being at the counter as the chefs and the food were deeply in focus of this 2 hour dining experience. There is no music, no loud conversation; there is only soft whispers about what the chefs were doing and the food itself.

I'm blown away. We can't wait to go back.

Impeccable service and elegant ambience. The finest Japanese in Melbourne. Dining here is like a taking a journey through the courses. Exquisite.

Pretty decent omakase spread but I left feeling like it wasn’t worth what I paid for. Maybe it’s because I didn’t sit at the chefs table. Maybe it was the way the sushi was plated. Idk. Service was okay, the waitress did (try to) explain what the dishes were but it just lacked that interaction with the chef. If I’m ever coming back I’ll make sure to snap a place up at the chefs table!

Was treated so poorly I was there. Server made a comment about the speed of me eating, like cmon bruh I paid $255 to eat here I can eat how I want

The absolute best omakase experience and quality of fish I've had at any Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. While there are some other greats, I can safely say this is the best place to go if you are a true lover of sushi and have spent time eating in Japan. Highly recommend!

Had an amazing omakase experience which consists of ~10 nigiri and a few seasonal dishes in-between, finishing off with dessert and tea. Each piece of sushi felt substantial and satisfying; rice and topping is seasoned so soy sauce is not required. Although this place specialise in sushi, the other dishes were just as amazing. The ingredients, creativity and balance of flavour and texture in each dish was exceptional. There is also an option to add additional dishes if you don't mind spending more. Highly recommend the counter seat to see the sushi chefs at work but probably only possible for small groups.

A great Japanese fine dining experience that really celebrates the essence of the cuisine - the freshest produce, presented beautifully, enhanced by subtle technique.

Our group had the special fugu cheek and the otoro maki. The former was good but the latter was spectacular. The rest of the omakase was full of flavour that was always well balanced.

Definitely one of the best fine dining experiences out there. I will definitely be back (if I can get another booking!).

Fan-Fugu-Tastic. A 1st rate experience. Beautifully prepared sushi cuisine with nicely paired Sake and knowledgeable staff. Had a table for the intimate date experience, feel like the chefs bench may have even better. Not cheap but I didn't feel gouged.

This is the second time I've had the opportunity and pleasure of enjoying the incredible food at Minamishima! It's out of this world really and a truely memorable experience! Request a seat at the sushi bar if you can. I'd be there weekly if I could afford it.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Would certainly come back again. Sushi bar seating was very comfortable and had great view and interactivity with the amazing chefs.

Finest Japanese you'll have in Melbourne, sitting at the bar is great as you see it being made as well. Omakase changes seasonally so always good to visit once in a while. As you'd expect the quality and taste of everything is superb

I’m really torn as to what rating to give…on the one hand the quality was exceptional, the dishes creative, distinct and visually stunning. The staff were all fantastic and provided the best service I’ve had in a long time. On the other hand whilst every dish was tasty (as you’d expect at this price point) there was no “wow” dish, and a couple more courses would have been welcome. Given how hard it is to get in to Minimishima expectations were high and I couldn’t help but feel…unsatisfied. Our bill came to $400pp inc drinks and 3 daily specials

We went with our friends of 4 people, the manager told my friend we couldn't book for 4 at once under the same name, so booking was made under 2 separate names of two. When we arrive, the manager separate us for seating while whole bar area only have 2 people seating there (capacity of 10). We wasn't very happy with this arrangement because you should serve customers to the best possible where you can and obviously it's not because your seating have been booked for odd numbers, he purposely separate us for no reason and just said WE CAN'T SIT together? ! We are here to spend and not here to take your attitude! When he spoke to us, he sounds like he has some sort of pride (don't know why) it almost feel like “our restaurant is like this, if you don't like dont come”! Is this the right attitude now treating the customers who support your business? Or maybe you now have too many customers so don't care. This is not the Japanese Culture of serving customers!

**Even later on, all the bookings of that night were pair of two, which the manager can certainly seat us together.

We then thought it might be operationally difficult to serve 4 people at the same time so despite us not very happy, we still sat down. Unfortunately it has nothing to do their operation, THEY JUST SIMPLY DONT WANT TO SATISFY YOU: (! The sushi chef served us (2) plus 2 (who are strangers) sitting next to us at the same time.

I was so excited to go to Minamishima, expecting to be blown away. Instead i got my sinuses cleared by the overpowering amount of wasabi they put in the sushi. I've never had such an unbalanced and underwhelming experience.

Service felt rather robotic as the only time our waiter really interacted with us was to upsell extra sushi before we had even started eating, or to explain each course in a monotone voice. The wine we were recommended was good but the kyoho grape cocktail was super disappointing for the price.

I was sat at one of the tables not the sushi counter so atmosphere was nonexistent. There was pretty much no music whatsoever to provide ambience only the sound of other diners' conversations and the kitchen whenever the kitchen doors opened.

Nothing really impressed me overall. You can definitely find better sushi elsewhere for much cheaper.

I am usually very critical when food is expensive, but I applaud them with an amazing culinary experience. For each dish, beautifully balanced in flavour, placed perfectly to enjoy an edible journey.
The only thing I wish is to be able chat with chef, but it's quite noise and busy there.

Rice cook perfectly, creative sushi, been here twice, both unforgettable, if add one more course will be better

Best sushi experience this former Tokyo resident has had outside of Japan. Loved it! Arigato gozaimasu!

EXCELLENT TAKEAWAY SERVICE DURING CURRENT LOCKDOWN
As I write this in early September 2021, Melbourne is still in COVID lockdown and we are finding creative ways to access good food!
Minamishima has a great takeaway service.
It's busy (mainly because its so good!) but worth the wait to get your eat at home Japanese fix.
The food is beautifully packaged and is almost an edible artwork:)

The restaurant will also deliver in its local area - minimum order of $100 and a $15 delivery fee.

For the 2nd Tuesday in a row, we couldn't get through on your phone line to order one of your sets (for delivery). My wife and spent our entire lunch break again trying to through on your phone lines, and when you sell out, you just turned the phone off. No response to any messages. This probably means very little to a 'prestigious' venue like yourself, but that is disgusting in 2021. If you are taking orders have a phone/online queue in place. If this the effort you put in, you deserve to go out of business. Serving good food isn't everything. Especially after what COVID did to the industry, is it that hard to have a system in place? Rather than disrespecting and wasting our time.
