Millstone

The last few times we've been to Millstone it was mainly for their beautiful cakes. However, we ordered the 3 dishes and we waited longer than expected. I asked what had happened and they said there was a mistake in the kitchen and needed to remake it. When it finally came out, one of them was the wrong order. I don't know if it's miscommunication but I knew that that was not the order I wanted and told the waitress. They took the one dish in and I was not communicated as to what was going on. They came back 15 mins later with the dish, placed it on the table, said nothing and walked off.
Finally, when I was at the counter after paying for the meal I wanted to get clarity from my order and the waitress (who didn't take my order) turned around and said, "you ordered that dish and then changed your mind and wanted another one". I was left baffled and a bit annoyed after this encounter as it was cold and unapologetic.
Overall, very disappointing as I was hoping for a nice meal out with my parents.

You can't go wrong. Great place. Have been coming to Millstone for few years now. Fresh and delicious. Oh.you have to try their pastries.

I ignored my rule of not ordering when prices are not displayed and found out that I paid $10 for perhaps the most average lamington. Since when lamingtons are $10?
Coffee was barely warm. I should have sent it back. Service was friendly.

Underwhelmed and disappointed with my breakfast visit there on 23.10.21. There were plenty of staff and they were polite however the service was poor. The food took ages. I mean ages as I was there at 8.15am so I'd expect breakfast for two to be a quick turnaround. I was seated outside and as can happen, perhaps my table was forgotten. I ordered a coffee to take the edge of as I was waiting for my food for so long - two coffee's came out with little interest from the waitress to take the second one that I didn't order back. The coffee was weak and barely warm. I should have sent it back. An order of overcooked poached eggs came with one yoke broken.really the cook should have started again. The food was terribly overpriced due to small serves. I'm no slouch with paying for food - it's in Malvern so high prices are expected but this was unreasonable for such small serves. Two breakfasts, two coffee's, one pastry and one small lamington $69.50. I had to wait for ages waiting to pay as well. I think this could be a lovely cake/pastry shop only. It needs a lot of work if it wants to be a high end cafe.
UPDATE: Just wanted to respond to the response from the cafe and say that pre covid I'd rarely post a bad review for a business - the poor review in this case was warranted. For this business to excuse their failures because of Covid is a lost opportunity for them. They were trading before Covid and they have a minimal breakfast menu that should be easy to streamline and manage. If you are going to charge those type of prices, you need to deliver every time.

Good coffee but staff are as rude as they come.the guy who worked 11/10/21 in particular needs a lesson in manners

To be fair, the food tasted yummy. But, they need to do something about their service. The order took ages to arrive, and when it finally did, an item was missing. I reminded the waitress to bring it, and still didn’t come. I had to cancel it at the end, and I went down the road to find another place to grab a bite!

No doubt they have really amazing delicious cakes and pastries! Been a return customer for 3.5 years now.

Due to the lockdown I am not able to go further than 5km to get my brekkie. Ordered an Ice Mocha with Ice Cream today and IT WAS HORRIBLE! Ice cream was mixed into the hot coffee and melted off by the time it was served. Chocolate powder were in chunks and legit was just sipping those chunks the whole time! Also it wasn't worth getting the ice mocha cause it was served in the normal hot coffee cup. That was really off-putting.

Delectable food and pastries, beautiful outdoor seating but we got terrible service few days ago. Asked the staff to clean up our table ‘twice’ and all she did just cleaned a spot on the table as if did a favour on us. Unacceptable table hygiene let alone COVID safe practice. We asked to send our coffee after the food however we got coffee first and food much later. Bittersweet experience.

An extremely busy, crowded and noisy cafe. I had to wait a long long time for my order to arrive as well as to pay. As I left this chaotic place, I was flooded with a great sense of relief!

I’m so glad a friend recommended this place for us to catch up at on a rainy Friday. We scored a table for two inside, checked in and found it hard to hard as everything looked delicious. My friend had the black porridge which was in the menu. It was delicious, soul warming and a great portion. I ordered a chicken baguette what was behind the counter. It was a great size and so good with my two coffees. We couldn’t resist one of the cakes that we couldn’t stop staring at during lunch. We shared the lemon drizzle cake. It was so good. I took home a slice of the blueberry cheesecake for my kids they loved it!

The cake was great but I really don't rate the service. We just ordered 2 coffees and 2 cake. Our server didn't write the order down. My coffee tasted weird so I went back to the counter and instead of a skinny latte, the server had put it in the computer as an almond latte (lucky I don't have a nut allergy). The girl at the counter didn't offer an apology or admit they made a mistake. Just some mumbled grunts and shrugging. People make mistakes and that's totally ok. Just apologise and move on! Friendly service goes a long way in the whole experience of a place. We wouldn't come back here on that alone.

The best place to go for your dessert treat if you are around Malvern area. Highly recommended for anyone who has a sweet tooth. Hot chocolate is absolutely amazing. Had a few cake slices and a cinnamon bun, all of them are beautiful. Would definitely come back for a brunch or dinner next time. Highly recommended their orange almond cake (the first picture). Side notes: there might be a queue during peak time. Estimated waiting time for more than 3 people - 15~20 minutes.

Ordered the vanilla and passionfruit cake and it was amazing! But what was even more impressive was the first class customer service that the Millstone team provided. I had an request for next day and they were able to cater to my request, and were responsive to all my requests! Thanks so much Millstone!

Tried their cakes, delicious! One of the best cakes in melbourne. Coffee is average, could do with some improving but not bad. Customer service is not very consistent, went there on a busy day and you could sense the vibe that the staff were stressed. They seemed to be slightly all over the place, a little unprofessional. Other than that, the cakes will surely get me to come back! The cafe is cute, nice decor.

Amazing place for a mid day brunch or just some desserts and hot chocolate. Amazing collection of few pastries/cakes. Best hot chocolate ive had. A nice place, would recommend my friends, just exit Malvern station, cross the street and its there.

I was treated so rudely by the young lady, asked to wait outside because I didn't have a mask on, when everyone in the cafe sitting down had no masks on. Such rude service and overpriced. I will never go back again, no need for bad service in this day and age.

It took way too long!
I ordered a takeaway latte, paid and ask staff whether it was ok to wait outside as there isn’t much room and I had a pram with me. I waited for good 15min, when I asked about my coffee I was told I’m up next. I left after 20 min with a “oh sorry” by staff who didn’t even offer me reimbursement. Will not recommend this to friends

Chose Millstone for our first post COVID dine in experience! Great coffee, breakfast was amazing and the cakes are to die for! Lots of happy smiling staff and the service was exceptional. Please support your local cafe.

A wonderful cozy patisserie with an amazing selection of cakes and pastries. Lemon tart is amazing - can always find room for this even after brunch!
