Milk the Cow Licensed Fromagerie reviews
73Iyosh (forgive my spelling) was an incredible host. He is an asset to the business and made the experience all the more memorable.
A sensational venue for a relaxed wine and a serious selection of fresh, soft, washed-rind, hard and blue cheeses. These guys are experts in fromage and their cheese boards are sublime!
4.5 stars:
Staff are quite knowledgeable and explain the selection boards very well.
My cheese board selection was certainly eclectic, although one of the hard cheeses was near impossible to cut. Onion jam was good.
Will consider visiting again once the weather turns cold so I can try some of the hot dishes.
It’s quite pricey but if you go as a group the cheeseboard works out to be more economical. The cocktails aren’t very good and very expensive
Really lovely vibe - especially by the counter looking out over Lygon St. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food and drinks were both lovely. Recommend.
Excellent!
Had been meaning to come here for some time to use a voucher gifted to me. Did not disappoint! We had the wine and cheese flight, the farmer’s board (olives, prosciutto, terrine and chutney) and the flaming saganaki. All were delicious and staff were lovely and knowledgeable.
Quite possibly my favourite place in Melbourne. Brilliant atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and a great wine selection. You absolutely cannot go wrong here. Suitable for solo, couple or a group of friends. The sparkling and cheese flight is my personal favourite!
Milk the Cow has been our go to favourite place for many years but after today we will never go again. The sparkling flight is no longer good value and for the first time they charged us for extra crackers. It is just not worth what they are charging any more as the customer service has also dropped. Spend your money somewhere else.
This venue is suffering from staff shortages like the rest of Melbourne's hospitality industry. What I didn’t expect since my last visit was a rapid decrease in quality of products accompanying their selection of fresh cheeses. The prosciutto was generously supplied while the saucisson was not. There was stale bread supplied where they used to have an amazing assortment of unique lavosh individually flavoured to suit different cheese types. I was unable to order a second glass of wine sue to lack of service so we left earlier than planned. I would of loved to take home what we couldn’t finish but I could not get the attention of staff to help with that.
Be careful! They take the credit card details at the time of booking and use it without your permission. Their eftpos machine was not working when we wanted to pay. They said they will contact us the next day to get details but they didn’t and charged without checking. When we raised it with them, they were very rude
I love the place and the menu, but our last visit was sadly disappointing. I had the reservation made months in advance for friends that were visiting, but we were not told there wasn’t a chef until after we had been seated. We still had a nice time with the flights, and my friends even got some cheese and wine to take back. The servers did as best as they could on the night and can’t fault them. I sent an email to management to let them know it would have been great to have a heads up, even on the day, and never got a reply. One of my friends was given the wrong year of wine and didn’t realize until later - all management can do for her would be for her to pay shipping on the one bottle back to them so they can give her a refund.
Seen reviews about the service, but they were really nice and quick with us, we sit outside because they were fully booked inside, but they quickly set the table and brought a heater. The tasting have good value. Good place to go for a date.
The whiskey flight and baked brie were incredible. Service was excellent. Will definitely be back
Cheese, wine, more cheese. My absolutely favorite combo. Whats not to like? It instantly went to my top places in Melbourne.
Great variety of cheese paired with drinks, finally amazing mulled wine (not an easy find in this city for some reason), and wonderfully baked camambert.
To summarize: Shut up and take my money!
Gave it a dam good crack, but barely made a dent in the 180odd different #cheeses on offer at @milkthecowmelb.even returning 4 days in a row!
. Just another excuse to return to #Melbourne
Fantastic team in Carlton- attending to all my cheesey needs (fromage & jokes alike) and made me feel welcomed while in Melbourne.
Great venue, great staff, great wines, great cocktails.oh, and some fantastic fromage

A+ for food. D for service… the Italian manager was one of the most unfortunate eating out experiences I’ve had in a while. Literally decided to leave the place.
Milk the Cow offers a fine selection of cheeses with excellent complimentary wine, whisky and gin pairings. There's no disputing that. My friend suggested a catch up and booked us a table for 3 well in advance of the planned date. We arrived for our 7pm booking promptly, ordered a drink each along with some cheeses and snacks. We then ordered a second drink and before these arrived our waiter rushed over to announce that they needed the table back for another booking. We were pretty confused since we'd been seated for less than an hour (it was 7: 50pm.we'd arrived at 7pm.). When my friend outlined that we'd had a booking for 7pm and had only been there for 50mins, the waiter argued with us and said we'd actually booked for 6: 30pm. My friend got out her phone and showed the waiter the booking details, to which he walked off looking pretty annoyed. No apology for the error on his end. After this we felt pretty unwelcome so finished our second drinks, paid and got out of there. Not impressed by the service and certainly will not be going back or recommending to friends.
Nice wine bar and def recommended. Wine selection was good, just not a big fan of the rosé and in a tasting mix. Cheese selection also tasty and mixed! Only comment would be that Gruyère is pretty average to put on a board in my opinion. Still very good tasting overall though:)
This place is really fun and the cheeses can be top notch. The wine flights are a great experience and the staff are friendly.
We ordered a degustation for one menu each. The meal started of with a sparkling flight. 3 cheese paired with sparkling wines. Starting of with a light cheese to a stronger bitey cheese.
The meal then proceeded to a fondue. Mixture of 4 cheeses. Presentation is pretty and is evidenced by the pictures accompanying. This is paired with a white wine.
Next up is a baked brie. Melting brie paired with fresh fruit and honey. It is very creamy and decadent. By this time, the both of us were really stuffed with cheese.
The degustation ends with an espresso Martini and cheddar with the rind soaked in espresso.
By the end of the night our belly was full of cheese and also filled with alcohol. The degustation for one can easily feed two person in my honest opinion.
