71A must-visit in the Northcote area! Make a booking to guarantee a table - as it is quite popular! The sambusa is INCREDIBLE. I recommend booking in early as it can sell out sometimes. We love and always get the omnivore platter. The vegetarian options are also amazing.
Vegetarian plate to share is excellent. Good amount of food. Great flavours. Reasonable price. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant:) thank you.
Value for money dining, sharing a platter of your choice offers plenty of fresh flavoured food. Good drinks option and friendly service.
We ordered the Omnivore combination platter, featuring lamb and vegetable dishes served on a delicate, crepe-like bread with another one rolled and put in the middle of the plate. I particularly relished the lentil and chickpea curries. The service was good, and the cozy ambiance could be further enhanced with improved interior design.
I have to say this place serves the best Ethiopian food in Melbourne that I know of.
Excellent dollar value and wonderful staff.
This place caters for vegans as well, which makes it easy to keep my wife happy and enjoying a great meal together.
I love this place. I eat gluten free so the platters I can eat. The yummy base is made with Teffel flour which is gluten free. It is always so filling and way too much for everyone’s stomachs. Go here as hungry as possible and savour every morsel.
The only thing I find frustrating at this place is the acoustics. I find it hard to hear conversations because of the noise levels. So I don’t recommend this place for anyone wanting to have a serious conversation over dinner!
Very tender meat, which is not always the case with Ethiopian restaurants in Melbourne. Friendly service.
Had dinner here with some friends and loved it! I love the experience of Ethiopian food with a group as it's truly the way it's meant to be eaten. The food here is authentic and delicious, and there are so many vegetarian options to choose from.
Go for the combination platters, the variety of flavours really elevates the experience. They bring out a nice selection on a big injera (flat bread pancake) to be shared. Once you are through your own injera scooping up delicious mouthfuls you tear up the plate and use that.
The Sambosas were great as well!
We ordered a platter which was huge and soo good. A must try. Never had this cuisine before and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
First time trying Ethiopian food; or any African food for that matter; and was thoroughly impressed! All the dishes where unique and flavourful, definitely a highly recommended dining experience here in Melbourne!
Food was pretty good, we've been many times before, service was not too good this time - new staff perhaps.
Absolutely couldn’t fault it. Helpful and friendly staff who checked if we had any allergies when ordering
If you live in Melbourne, this will be one of your best experiences of Ethiopian cuisines. The culinary signature is certainly unique; they serve the tray with the different and unique Ethiopian bread, injera, which is made with teff, a tiny, round grain that flourishes in the highlands of Ethiopia. It is very nutritious and it contains practically no gluten! The staff is very friendly and familiar with the cuisines. The music was no too loud and it’s family friendly as well as suitable for dates. Thanks to an old colleague who introduced the place, we tried beef Sambosa, a lamb dish and their signature Ethiopian cuisine Doro Wot.
We came here on recommendations and Mesob totally lived up to the expectations. The diverse menu gave herbivores and carnivores plenty to choose from. We ordered the Herbivore Platter.
Instead of getting only 3 or 4 of the vegetarian dishes, we got to sample a bit of everything. Loved how they laid out the platter so that we could eat together with that community feeling but had our own corner to mess up.
The place was filled on a Tuesday night in mid-December. Really appreciated that staff smiled at every interaction, including acknowledgement that we need to wait. A great experience that's worth repeating.
Mesob is truly a fascinating culinary experience. Delightfully decorated the restaurant is lively and bubbly never dull. For African food beginners it’s a must, thanks staff and chef!
Worth a try when you are in the area, helpful staff and nice dining atmosphere. Really like the varieties of dishes from a share platter menu.
The food is delicious and the service is excellent. The menu is very easy to navigate, even if you are new to this cuisine. I am looking forward to coming again.
We had a shared platter and it was HUGH! We didn't finish it. The first time we came we honestly did not like the food as much BUT we came back again and this time.we enjoyed our time here! I guess my palate has developed and started to like the soft-sour dough. The experiences we had here were new, fun, and yum!
First time to try African food, the proportion was huge and delicious, five star rating definitely
We had dinner here on Friday night. The lack of service is the main reason we wont be back. The waitress hardly spoke to us AT ALL. We were treated as if we were an inconvenience. We ordered the banquet, which on the menu doesn't mention what is included. The waitress arrives with a broth/soup, with no explanation, and dumps all the spoons in front of one of us and walks off. Then the large platter arrived, again just dumped in front of us. We weren't told there was bones in the meat, which resulted in in one of us chipping a tooth, and considering we had children with us would of been helpful to know. Then some chicken wings were brought out and because I asked what they were marinated with, I was practically met with an eyeroll. We were hardly spoken to at all. This was such a shame as the food was quite nice and we were out celebrating a birthday. After this experience and spending $150 we won't be back.
