I couldn't have felt more confident in my obstetric care. With complications, and multiple visits to ER and fetal monitoring unit, I was a pregnant anxious mess. The midwives, doctors and nurses were all incredibly compassionate, patient and caring, and the wait times were extremely minimal. Our little one was born with health issues and needed to attend NICU - the paediatricians were amazing, and the level of contact between doctor and patient (as a private patient) was like nothing I'd experienced before. On several occasions I was asked if I wanted the Dr to come in to see me (from their home, on call) and was given the paging number of my obstetrician so I could speak with her whenever I needed to.

One of the reasons I chose a public hospital was so that if I had complications, I'd have the best possible people on hand to help, and wouldn't need to be transferred to another hospital. All the staff were INCREDIBLY thorough in assessing me and my baby for any health concerns - some may even say over the top, but for an anxious mum, the level of reassurance was perfect.

Thankyou to all the exceptional staff.

One more note - the food, however, was utterly atrocious. I'm sorry chefs.

The best emergency service I have received. As a woman, dealing with these lovely women here who genuinely care for you and will do everything to find the issue is really comforting and makes you feel very safe. Every single woman I have dealt with has been extremely kind and helpful. I was apologised to for waiting (althogh it wasn’t even a long wait as they took samples etc and put me in a bed) and even offered to give me something to eat. Dr Maxi is amazing specifically and really helped me a lot. Just lovely and so great to see this service especially as I’m sure they are extremely busy with many patients. Thank you so much ladies.

Such a fantastic hospital with truly caring staff! I had never stayed in a hospital before but I came in with a nasty infection and needed surgery. I stayed at the Mercy for a week. All staff - doctors, nurses, kitchen staff, cleaners were incredibly professional, kind, patient, caring and very knowledgeable. The view from both of the rooms I stayed were lovely too. Special thanks to Dr Marcus, Dr James, Eva, Ella, Liang and Leah.

Young doctors should not be allowed with patients. They are clueless to older women’s problems. Not looking forward to going back there for my hysterectomy!

Endosurgery - had my mirena IUD replaced today. Really impressed with the level of care received from Nurse Jo (much appreciate her pre-procedure explanation), Dr Caroline (very experienced, genuine, made me feel safe), Dr Kimberley (for knowing exactly what she is doing) and Nurse Wendy (outstanding! Her distraction strategies worked its magic). Thank YOU ALL so much for your professionalism and excellent care. May you be well and happy always.

I recently had my second baby at the Mercy Hospital as a public patient. Could not fault my experience! The staff were extremely attentive throughout my whole pregnancy experience from friendly phone app to delivery to postpartum. The midwife Hayley that delivered my first baby happen to also delivery my second baby on Tuesday the 12th. She made my experience a very positive one both times! Her expertise and calm nature wasn’t hard to miss.
Once my baby was born the nurse/midwife Stephanie that looked after us over night and Lynn in the afternoon were also great! Extremely informative and very friendly. I thank all those staff for being so amazing at their professions and looking after us with such care

My baby’s care in NICU during her 2 weeks stay was outstanding, can not fault them.
However my care on the maternity ward as a public patient was shocking. It is important you advocate for yourself, which I have now learnt. Understaffed, my care felt transactional. I had spent 18 wonderful days in public hospitals with worsening pre eclampsia prior to being transferred to deliver at Mercy the next day at 31 weeks. However I got there and no room. I spent 7 hours in a cramped ED room to be told I will be monitored for the next few days. During my 8 days before having a c section, I wanted to leave everyday. My medication was never on time, I had to buzz when it was late, waiting as long as 40 minutes most times for someone to come to my bed for me to remind them. Making me feel ill, as I was taking medication all over the place. Cleaning/food staff inconsiderate announcing themselves as early as 5am leaving all lights on and doors wide open. Coming back 20 minutes later to take my food I hadn’t eaten as I was trying to sleep and being quite rude about it. Talking loud never in English to another, coughing and splattering. As I was having OBs monitored every 2 hours I struggled to sleep. Midwives caring for the mum next to me separated by a paper curtain extremely loud at all hours of the night as well as opening the window curtains on my side of the room over my husband as he sat on a chair and turning my lights on so they could see, without explaining or apologising as I was trying to sleep in the morning. I was fasted 4 times thinking I would have my c section to get to the next day to be told they decided to wait.
Once I had my baby via c section my catheter was taken out 10 hours after, at 1am having only taken 2 steps out of bed to a wheelchair. I woke up busting in pain, crying called my husband at 3am as no one was answering my button call thinking I was going to wet the bed. When they finally came and I asked for help and a wheelchair they said why don’t you walk to the bathroom. My urine output was not charted off by a midwife when my husband was also in the bathroom helping, to be told by the next days midwife I had to do it all over again. My husband furious, knowing the one place I should be getting care I was not. When I asked about pain medication they stuck with Panadol and told me to see how I go. Not being explained what to expect after surgery and my pain medication options being a first time mum. It was on my last night a gem of a midwife saw how much pain I was in still and immediately got me stronger pain meds and techniques to ease me into walking up straight not hunched. My dressing needed to be changed, the Dr removed it, said don’t move as I was laying exposed and sterilised and a midwife could come. That midwife never came as she went on lunch break and I spent half an hour laying there after I buzzed until another midwife came in. Not to mention I had drs on my bedside after delivery telling me about contraception like I was a teen, im 28 but look young, extremely condescending and when I asked about vasectomy for my husband, they were shocked could not comment as they were a women hospital and I was discharged like that. Without a second thought. I took me 2 weeks to stop having nightmares at home. It’s been 11 weeks and I tell everyone I would rather walk backward with my eyes shut to furthest hospital than ever go there again. Medical professional have asked about my time at Mercy out of curiosity and sadly have heard stories like mine too many times!

I can only speak on my own experience, my wife just had her first child and throughout the whole process the staff were incredibly helpful and kind. But it’s only when we got to to ED that they truly shined.

The amount of care and respect they showed myself and more importantly my wife was incredible. At one point during birth we even had three doctors when potential complexities arose.

My wife and son were extremely well taken care of after birth also and stayed an extra day. Not kicked out contrary to what some say. Because they felt my wife needed it.

The only cons are what the staff had to deal with I.e temperamental equipment. Most Iv lines and heart monitoring machines were very up and down. So props to all the nurses, midwife’s etc for handling it and working around some of the annoying equipment faults. We had Stefanie as our nurse midwife during stay after child birth, she gets 10/5 stars

I had a missed miscarriage and was referred here for treatment. At both my consultation and the day of my D&C every single staff member I dealt with was really caring, really kind and made me feel really at ease with what was going on. I’ve had really scary experiences at hospitals before so I’m always anxious about having to go in for anything but I really could not fault my experience here. I live an hour away and i would still choose to come here in the future.

This hospital is hands down the best hospital I've ever been to. The midwives + Drs in the ER as well as the staff in star clinics have been beyond amazing! I'm forever thankful for the care I've received especially after stillbirth, miscarriages and medical termination.

My baby has a rare heart condition (Ebstein's Anomaly - 1 in every 200,000 babies born) and they knew from the diagnosis I'd need an induction with a team of specialists to take baby immediately to NICU. They changed the first induction date and on the day of the new time, called me 2 hours before arrival wanting to reschedule again! I refused to cancel and said I will birth my baby today for any chance of her surviving! Preparing for any baby is a emotional process and I'd prepared for this new time to deliver my unhealthy baby! They just don't give a s**t. Thankfully, baby went to Royal Children’s Hospital within hours (the Mercy forgot to send my expressed colostrum with my baby to RCH!). They also told me I had the option of allowing my baby to die after birth, like it was easier for them to deal with this than manage this rare diagnosis. My baby is now 8 months and no surgery yet? ️‍?

Experience at mercy is kind of hit and miss depending on where you go and who is on roster. Generally midwives are friendly, knowledgeable and professional while Outpatient staff (for over the phone inquiries) is not as nice and can be impatient and rude sometimes. Emergency team is fantastic

Third time here. Staff is incredible; caring, attentive, reassuring and talked me through everything, constantly letting me know I could ask questions at any time. Thank you for looking after me and everyone else on the ward. Much appreciated

Our family has been through a lot of harassment here. My newborn had to go through a lot of investigation due to can’t digest the milk on first day and doing all these things without even communicating with us and end up having all normal. Most of the midwife are just arrogant they do what they wants to do, common sense is a joke for them. Please have private health insurance if you wants to have normal delivery, here they prefer and convenience you to have c section. What a mess. Stay away.

Charged $30 for 2 hours car parking and the attendant was rude. Exorbitant fee just to drop off expressed breast milk for our 6 day old baby in neonatal ICU. Most days the fee was just $3 with the pass provided by Mercy NICU (and the Mercy staff were lovely). But avoid Austin/Mercy car park!
Edit: In response to your reply requesting feedback, I already submitted feedback to the Mercy on 26/12/22, the night it happened. I indicated that I did not require a response from the Mercy. I have also just raised the issue with CarePark head office and because the car park is operated by them, I do expect a response from them.

Brilliant care and service throughout my whole surgery process. The nurses were kind, thorough, compassionate and friendly. The surgeons and doctors made me feel like a human being and made time to see me and answer my questions. The after care was so nice - I don’t think anyones looked after me that well in a long time!
Thank you, Mercy

Even though this is closest hospital id rather die of a heart attack then go to that hospital, I hope it weighs on them, signs everywhere saying treat staff kindly, but what about the staff treating patients kindly, very rude hospital, never coming back, Very rude staff, I came with my fiancee and friend to the hospital because he has a very serious health problem, we waited in emergency because thats where they said he had to wait, only 1 of us could go in with him to see the doctor, so I waited in emergency and this horrible muslim nurse lady comes up to me rudely and asks if i have a serious condition, I said no i am waiting for my fiancee and she said no you cant wait here leave now, and i asked where should i wait and she said not here and i dont know where else you should wait but leave immediately, so i said ill wait in the car park and she said yeah you better do that.in such a horrible tone. 1 star 100% because of the rude horrible staff. I was in tears because she yelled at me. I have a disability and im not good with communication so it was not nice of her to say those things.never coming back.
