Great customer service and affordable meal. The vegetarian tofu curry and the vegetarian ramen were delicious.

Amazing chef's work, the wokmanship is stunning. The katsu was finished ultra crispy and succulent. The potatoes are a fun size. The curry is at a spice level that is suitable for the best scope of most patrons (that's a good thing even though I personally like it extra spicy: p), and the taste is also the good balance of savoury and sweet, so creamy and yummy.
Would recommend 10/10 to fellow lunch goers, and if you don't mind the small space there is seating for dinner which will be also a great time. Cheers.

I think this shop is pretty much giving up their business considering for a bowl of 21 dollars beef tongue rice, they only gave one thin layer of beef tongue just to hide all the rice down there.
If you look for a replacement, go to Ikkai, it's in CBD as well and they give a lot more beef tongue comparing to this and it's cheaper.

Good portion sizes but Salmon Teriyaki Bowl is more tofu than salmon - this ingredient was not mentioned in the menu. Mango pudding is straight up super sweet custard and doesn't have mango chunks as displayed in the menu.

Menya is a classic of the CBD, especially for the many students in the area. I’ve witnessed their famed Gyutan Don (with egg) gone up in price from $9.5 to a whopping >$19!
So overpriced, so it’s a once-a-year treat down memory lane

We had the gyutandon for takeaway. It was delicious! The top of the bowl is filled with meat. It was also spicy. We love it!

Friendly and polite staff. Food is delicious and is very quickly prepared, it comes in big portions so you won't leave feeling hungry. Very reasonably priced.

Worst "ramen" Ive ever had. Fake packet broth no flavour but bad aftertaste. Horrible slimy packet noodles, cold egg. Disgusting. Couldn't eat it.

I've been going to this place since the early 00's. The allure of this place never was an authentic approach to Japanese food, it was a price-quantity-flavour thing. I went today and ordered my usual of terryaki chicken. What was presented to me was an enormous bowl of rice seasoned with a little bit of chicken and smothered in sauce. I don't know if this is a profit strategy due to COVID or change in ownership or just poor business. The result though is that I won't be going back after many years of patronage. Major disappointment.

Not even close to Japanese food. The whole store was run by Chinese and this was strongly reflected in the food. We ordered the Teriyaki Beef Don, Gyu Don, and Unagi fried rice but what we got was nowhere near what we expected. The teriyaki beef don and the gyu don looked completely identical and were very different from the food depicted on the menu. The beef in both dishes weren't at all thinly sliced and the sauce wasnt even close to teriyaki, and for some reason there was Korean Japchae (glass noodles) and other sliced veges mixed in even though the pictures on the menu didn't. The fried rice was tasty, but again, not at all Japanese. It tasted exactly like the fried rice from Chinese restaurants and didn't even have a hint of Japan. Overall, food tasted okay but the food should not at all be advertised as Japanese. Very disappointed.

Udon with spinach is a bit awkward. The soup was not good and tasteless. However, the fried chicken was nice.

Fake Japanese fast food place run by Chinese. Big portions but bland food and dishes with the cheapest ingredients. Expect rude staff and terrible service.

Absolutely terrible. Location is tiny and the customer service is less than ideal. Felt like the staff were impatient and could not care less about the customer. Between my friend and I, we ordered the tempura udon and the menya ramen. The soup for both dishes tasted like season water and the noodles and meat were very clearly bought pre-packaged from other grocery stores. The menya ramen which was supposedly "sea food and pork" had 1 slice of pork - and it was overcooked. I believe other locations may be good, but for the love of god and decent food, don't go to this one at Melbourne Central.

I've been frequenting Menya Ramen for over a year now, it's my go to place when i want something that will seriously fill me up and not burn my wallet on.
My favourite is the pork katsudon and curry pork katsudon. The splendidly crispy batter is lovely on a whopping pile of rice and vege.
I'd reccomend stearing away from the unagi or beef dishes as the quality of those seems bellow the chicken or pork dishes i have tried.

It's like a Chinese take on Japanese food. Smothered with sauce and still lacks flavour. Do not go if you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience.

Disgusting customer service. I had an employee at this place roll her eyes at me simply because I didn't realize she was trying to give me a ticket number and i had walked away to sit down. I told the so called manager and expressed how upset I was at this as I was nothing but polite and all i got was "ok ok". I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE SIMPLY FOR THE FACT THAT NO ONE SHOULD BE MADE TO FEEL THE WAY I DID.and the employer continued to give me death stares whilst I explained to the manager how rude that was and uncalled for. Never coming back here ever again. No thank you.

This is the place I usually have my lunch but sadly I will not go back again. There was a cockroach in the Oyako Don served to me today. Luckily I was paying attention when having the meal, thank god! If I am looking at my phone, god knows what’s in the meal. I quickly returned it to the shop. The lady was very kind and apologetic. However, she has nothing to do with the meal. The person should be accountable for is the cook who I don’t think will give a damn. I have got my money back but gosh I will never forget the moment I found that poor insect in my meal, it will stay vividly in my mind.

I have nothing against this place but just to share my last experience with this place.
