Melbourne City Backpackers reviews
584.5 stars great fellow travells great amenities apart from the kitchen that was a bit small close to entertainment, transport had a 6 bed dorm to myself across from the toilets staff were excellent especially while checking out i left something in my room they helped me get it. The only bad things apart from a small kitchen was if you wanted a coffee in the morning theres only 4 mugs. Fellow travellers were not really sociable apart from a few and it was a little loud outside at the hotel across from the backpackers all in all i would rate 4.5 if it let me
Not happy with it at all say nothing about passport i book room for one night got there she, a passport i was tired and that i could afford on a tight budget not going there ever again pretty disgusted people should be allowed to book a room at any price about passports no trouble
The staff was nice and welcoming. 24hrs reception.
The beds and linen need to be renewed. Everything was super old.
Zero zero zero! Not even one
A reception guy who wearing a glasses was so rude and unfriendly, he can’t even smile and say “hi” why are you in there? Ppl steal food even I put to the plastic bag, have stolen three times in only five days stay.
Absolutely the worst backpacker I have ever stayed. Never back again. Won’t recommend to anyone.
Checked out at very early morning

the male staff is very firendly and nice
thx for the excellent service
There are cleaners everyday who usually tidy up the hostel. Staff is usually chill and helpful, although there is constantly new staff. Made a lot of good friends here. Great place to make new travelling friends of all ages. Only gripe was when I was there it was constantly cold in the room and the covers didn't do anything. Usually had to sleep with sweaters and full clothes on. Im sure this is probably not the case now since it's the summer time - I was there in September.
Pros
Great location near southern cross, flagstaff and 86/96 trams that lead to the good stuff in Melbourne
Clean
Free stuff most evenings
Affordable
Helpful reception
Cons
Very busy. Common areas can get crowded quite regularly
If they cant charge your card they cancel your booking often without telling you. You find out when its too late. Its fully booked you have to check out and go somewhere else like I had to
No lift. You better be fit if you want to stay on the top floor especially carrying heavy suitcases
I didnt have the best experience at Melbourne city backpackers but I did my best to have a good time. My 25 night holiday was cut into 7 nights. Im keen to go back to Melbourne in the winter months and stay at Melbourne City backpackers. I will learn from my mistakes but would be nice to be contacted to fix up payment issues rather than being cancelled and not notified and finding out at the last minute when its fully booked and going through the stress of checking out at the last minute

Frequent backpacker
Pro: very good location (near to southern cross station, Skybus terminal) Max at the entrance is very competent and helpful
Con: Breakfast (toast, jam, some tea and ‚coffee‘, cheap muesli), small public areas, quite rough and old sleeping areas/bathrooms and therefore never really clean
- choose another hostel if you‘d like to go for a very nice one
We didn't stay here but had gone to keep our bags here @Aud 8 per bag, since we had a flight late in the evening and had to check out early in the morning from our Airbnb place. Atmosphere at Melbourne City Backpackers seemed laid-back and friendly with younger people chatting with each other.
Workers very kind.
We stay there just arrive from Spain, and its good ubicación from the bus station were the skybus shops and after 25h you need to be practic.
We travel to the Est Coast and they make posible to leave the baggage there for free.
Thanks
We didn't stay here.we use the bagbnb to store our luggages. $8/day/item.its close to Southern Cross Station. It is very convenient.
Pretty good. Staff were nice rooms clean and other guests friendly. Common area/ kitchen a bit small. Free WiFi is great but there's a download limit. Activities every night. It was right next to the skybis terminal so getting there from the airport was a breeze.
The place is clean, good washing machines! Small communal areas, uncomfortable seats, power plugs not in convenient places, small kitchen, small fridges. Free meals is pretty average, movie night is a movie playing in the living room, projected on the wall with lights on and people talking. Room size alright.
Great hostel. Many stay there for extended periods of time. Great atmosphere and location. Young abd friendly staff. Beds pretty good. Can recommend.
It was a perfect stay in Melbourne City Backpackers.
The location is perfect. In the city center, really close to the public transports and shops. 5minutes walking to the bus to go to the airport.
All the hostel is really clean and the staff is so friendly and helpful.
I had a good time in this hostel. Staff especially ericka was very friendly and opened to help. Very social hostel with lots of nice people.
The only downside is that wifi really sucked there. My laptop would reach the daily limit early in the morning and many times the connection dropped all of the sudden.
If they would raise the daily wifi limit from 500MB to 1GB it would have been great.
This hostel was clean and had all the amenities required. It was ok and was reflected in the price. The bed was comfortable and was centrally located.
Staff is courteous, beds a d bathrooms are clean, free breakfast of toast and cereals, good location. Great Value for money.
Expensive for what you get. Try hotels along this street and in Spencer Street, often the price is equivalent and you have your own private room with a toilet / shower.
Good pricing, excellent location. Beds are comfortable and plenty of things going. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
