Meatsmith - Specialty Butcher & Wine Merchant

Bought a large rib eye on the bone, cooked on a hibachi medium rare and rested. A Lot of gristle in the meat, quite tough and not very flavoursome. Certainly not the premium brand Meatsmith markets itself as.

As a vegetarian, this is by far my favourite butcher to support when buying meat for my omnivorous partner! You know as soon as you walk in it won’t be cheap - the space is beautifully curated and there are loads of specialty deli items on offer in addition to meat goods - but they do deliver a quality of the meat that (according to my partner) remains consistently superior, and I like that they buy from local farms too. If you’re going to eat meat, eat less of it and buy the best, most local and cruelty free that you possibly can. The service here is always excellent, and even though the deli goods are highly priced, I often indulge as to find them for less elsewhere would cost me far more in time, and I like the effort they have gone to in selecting a premium offering here. The wines and specialty drinks available are also always crafty and interesting and I have discovered lots of lovely new brands and flavors from my visits here. Highly recommend for premium cuts and on site prepared specialties.

Great variety of meats. The sausages were the most flavourful sausages I’ve had, definitely a must try. The Chicken leek pie was also very tasty.

Staff here are always so friendly. I've had meat delivered, used the click and collect service and just popped in and never had any issues.
Christmas ham was the best ham I've ever had, and the family are still raving about it. I'm also addicted to their Zuni pickle with mortadella!

My partner has purchased meat etc on many occasions during lockdown. Unfortunately I would say one out of every third order has had meat that was not fresh. Today we just had a delivery of honest eggs, pork ribs and mince. Six eggs out of the dozen were broken and leaked out all over the packed pork ribs and the bottom of the box, had to wipe everything down. When I opened the wrapped pork ribs it had an unpleasant smell and are definitely not fresh. This has happened on several occasions with the meat and had to order takeout. Extremely disappointed Meatsmith, I will be encouraging my partner to never order meat from you again.

Bought a 1.6kg rack of short ribs to smoke for $80. Bit spenno but when I eat flesh I want it to be good. 11hrs on the Weber and the results speak for themselves.

My first visit, well laid out shop great service very nice dinner with the meat I purchased Unusual for a butchers to sell alcohol but they do. Very select meat and charcuterie selection in the words of Arnie I'll be back

Artisan butcher pleasing to the eyes the moment you walk past.
The quality is really good. We ordered the pastrami, the prosciutto which both had has soo much flavour. It’s a great butcher to brings friends with for the first time and pick something to cook together.
The staff are very friendly and helpful with selecting meats.
The staff also have really nice uniform.

I hate giving bad reviews but brought combined pork and beef mince for spagatti and despite super hot pan over gas leached over half a cup of water. (600g of meat) Cost $16 dollars for 600 grams. I expect quality meat for that price. And the end result tasted like mush despite all the usual fresh ingredients I use. Beautiful looking shop but next time I'll go to the Vic markets

Having ordered sausage obsessively at bistros throughout travels in Southern France, I have not found better Toulouse sausages than the ones sold at Meatsmith Fitzroy.

Order the pre cooked lamb and potato gratin- little disappointed lacked bold flavour for a pre cooked meal probably better going to providoor - sorry

Amazing food, their selection of both traditional cuts of meat as well as ready made meals is great. I just wish they had a store in Brunswick!

I get a lot of meat from here. An iconic Melbourne butcher. Never fails to impress. Bought kangaroo yesterday. Awesome.

Love shopping here, super friendly and helpful staff. Got two beautiful aged beef steaks for Christmas and lots of tips about how to cook it properly. Not cheap but well worth it for the quality and advice.

Truly an amazing specialist store. Prices aren't for the feint hearted, but quality of food and service is exemplary.

This is my favourite butcher. Service is friendly and everything is in excellent standard. Their schnitzel is simply the best and their pâte is unpassable. The only downside is the price.

Awesome selection of meats and treats, artisan sides, and friendly staff to help you out. We come here constantly to sample everything as much as we can. Recommended!
