Matteo's Restaurant, Melbourne

We dined here for a friend’s special birthday. It had been many years since I’d been here! The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived. Most of our food was very good but there were a few exceptions. Oysters and gnocchi entrees were excellent and the stand outs. The zucchini flowers were stuffed with a little too much cheese and the stinging nettle pasta a koi disappointing. The mains were also a little mixed. The steaks were excellent by all accounts. 2 of us had the shin Osso bucco, 1 loved and the other didn’t enjoy the cut of meat. The sides were all delicious and the wine selections with Matteo’s assistance were superb. Was a great night, but there were some inconsistencies in the food, although still very good.

It was a culinary experience with delicious food that was very well presented along with friendly efficient service and some really good wines available by the glass with a very pleasant ambience

We went here on valentines 2020 and had a great night. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere and decor was nice.

The waiters were way overworked and messed up all our orders. The first courses were served way to fast, we had no oppertunity to taste the appetizer before the first dish was on the table. We finished the appetizer and waited five minutes for the recommended wine for the dish, but to no avail.

When I had the last bite of the first dish they were there with the next. Still no wine. When they reccomend certain wines for the dishes you would expect them to also want to serve it so you can experience the good pairing, but we got the feeling they just wanted to get rid of us. This might have been a valentines thing though.

We asked for our wine and waited some minutes for it to arrive, the food was still warm and matched good with the wines.

I had asked to get the wine before the food for the main course. (I thought that was the normal way to serve it) And I guess that's why they gave us the wine and waited for more than thirty minutes before serving the mains.

I have to add that they had recommended multiple wines for the dishes and managed to screw up our selection.

We really enjoyed the food and dont want to pull the place down just because of a busy valentines experience. I'm sure they do better at a normal day.

I think they would have performed so much better if there was a butler in each room in stead of one guy trying to keep track of all the tables.

Impeccable service and great quality food. We had the tasting menu with matching wines and it was an almost perfect evening.

Four of us dined here recently and it lived up to my high expectations. We chose the 5 course Degustation which also included 2 additional “amouse-bouches” and home made bread. There was plenty to eat. We didn’t leave hungry. Love that they serve plates HOT. Really couldn’t fault anything. I’m still thinking about the gnocchi and the prawns. If I could give 6 Stars I would.

The food fabulous, the staff highly attentive and accommodating, the decor and setting beautiful! Our expectations were not only met but exceeded. Thank you to all at Matteo's, we had wonderful evening.

Have been here for a few times and always enjoyed the food and service. Decided to have my birthday dinner here and had a fantastic night. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered, the menu has a good selection of dishes that suited everyone's taste, service was attentive and professional. Even though it is a fully licenced restaurant, you are allowed to bring your own bottles with very reasonable corkage. Would definitely be back, thanks for the hospitality! (there is a reason why this restaurant has been around for 25 years and still going strong)

Organised a work dinner function for last night and everybody loved their food, the service was brilliant - especially for my colleague who has a tricky diet! Will definitely be back and recommending to everyone.

This place makes me believe in the true worthiness of a fine dining restaurant. This is a special place for a special someone!

Amazing food and excellent service! My wife and I had the vegan degustation and all 5 courses we supurb. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Melbourne.

Matteo’s has hosted dinners for my colleagues and friends three times over the last few years. Our experience has been consistently excellent. Any dietary requirement is met, to the same culinary quality as everyone else’s dishes. Wait staff are superb and the food delicious! Thank you Matteo’s, we’ll be back!
