My mother and I experienced a beautiful lunch at Matteo's. The food was absolutely delicious and very creative. Thank you, we will definitely be back.

Absolutely fantastic experience. The food was exceptional with utmost attention to details, elegantly presented and "satisfying all your senses". To start with the tempura Zucchini flower &Teleggio, heirloom tomatoes, dried black olives &basil oil and Duck confit & mushroom pithivier, stinging nettle puree, creamed spinach, porcini sauce. They were all just exquisite.
The main courses we chose were utterly scrumptious.
We had Pan-fried Humpty Doo barramundi, grilled bok choy, brandade fritters, sea lettuce sauce and Char grilled Victorian Black Angus beef surloin, smoked potato puree, sauteed kale, Bordelaise sauce. Wow.delicious or what.
To finish our "culinary sensory extravaganza" the sublime Citron Yuzu gelato with strawberry-guava sorbet and coconut cream were to die for.
We absolutely loved it. We are definitely going back. If you are in town i would strongly recommend to dive in this extraordinary gourmet pampering for all your senses.

Went for my friends birthday, we went with the tasting menu (5 courses) and it took 1.5 hours to get to the third course. Which was basically entrees so we were starving. Anyway, we got to the pasta dishes and couldn’t eat the pasta as it was dense. Like heavy, raw, overworked dough, inedible dense. The waiter apologised and replaced it with the alternate dish for that course which was more pasta but in brodo. The pasta was just as thick and dense, the brodo was salt with a sprinkle of water. We felt ill. We politely sent it back and said it’s fine we will just move onto the next course. We didn’t make a scene. We were very polite throughout the entire process. The owner came to our table and made SUCH a scene, he harrassed us and argued it was al dente and basically we didn’t know any better. I was trying to not make a big deal because it was ruining my friends birthday but this man wouldn’t leave it or us alone. The entire restaurant stopped to stare and watch, it was mortifying. It ruined our night. He made it a point to be offended when we didn’t even make a big deal about it? The waiter literally didn’t even tell him we didn’t like it - this man watched us send it back and chose to fight with us. Please don’t waste your time, money or calories on this man’s place of business. Your Italian neighbour will feed you better food and be friendlier about it.

I had experience with my friend for her birthday night. Two things, that I can possibly say are: way over price, food is terrible. Please don't waist your time/money.

A special occasion place
Vegan delights and lots of great wines on the list. No wonder this place has been around so long

We had a wonderful special birthday lunch for around 40 people on Saturday. Matteo and the team were fantastic in helping us organise the occasion and it went perfectly. The service by Charles, Marcus and the team was impeccable, as usual, and our guests loved the food. Highlights were the kingfish crudo, tempura zucchini flower, duck, rock king and Limone sorbet. The courtyard was perfect for our pre lunch drinks and the grand dining room was set up beautifully. Thank you so much. Penny

Most of the food was amazing but the duck wasn't quite balanced. Cooked well though. Service was great. Drinks were delish

A very lovely restaurant. Cosy with a nice ambience. Kicked off with a well-made cocktail.
We then started our five course meal, each dish paired with a wine. The staff here were great as they seem to time each meal to our table.perfectly.
Top notch food. I'm not a wine expert but I felt each wine complimented each meal. Will definitely come back here again.

Recently celebrated a dinner with family and friends and the food was delicious. New starters which e we all enjoyed and service was outstanding.

We dined here for my partner’s birthday and loved the experience. We selected the tasting menu and it did not disappoint. The wait staff were attentive, professional and friendly.

Came here for a special occasion, it was late on a Thursday night and not busy. We spent $2000 between 4 people, the food was only just ok for the price, at these price points is should be wow (the lemon desert did wow). The staff were efficient but not friendly even though we tried to engage with them a couple of times.
I've been coming to Matteos for 15 years but disappointingly this will be my last visit.

Had dinner here 23rd July. Extremely good, very nice food, absolutely delicious. Not cheap - but worth it.

Matteo’s in Fitzroy is a first class restaurant.

We attended the Sanguine Wine Estate Family dinner as a group of 6.

The service start to finish was excellent.

The starter plate was superb with a great selection of beautifully prepared morsels.

The entree was a Risotto with a delicate mushroom sauce - delicious.

The main was a fillet of perfectly cooked duck.

The dessert a beautiful chocolate mousse.

The accompaniment of Sanguine wine was the perfect way to enjoy such a beautiful dinner.

Highly recommended.
