Mamak Melbourne reviews
55Handmade roti that you can watch through the window. I'm a regular there and have tried many dishes. You definitely can't get by without their roti. Roti chanai for and the kari ikan (fish curry) are my usual go to favourites.
We ate rujak, mie goreng, and satay (mix of chicken & beef). Only mie goreng suited for our taste. Rujak dressing and satay sauce was too sweet. Little bit savory wouldn't be harmful. Opposite to those, Mamak's mie goreng is delicious. Ingredients were authentic and it has the wok taste just like what we normally have in traditional Mamak's.
-Delicious food.
-Authentic Malaysian food
-Best mi goreng noodles
-Staff might need more training on customer service
-Affordable price meals range from $12-$18
Popular Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne. (there’s a pretty sizable Malaysian community in Australia). Good roti prata with authentic curry and fluffy roti. Gado gado (Indonesian/Malaysian salad) is fresh and has a good texture. Desserts (Sweet roti) are also very good
Would recommend a visit when in Melbourne.
Delicious and cheap Malaysian cuisine. Banana roti ($8.50) made fresh in the window is always good for show. Mee goreng ($14) is made with seafood. Ginger tea ($4) is worth a try. Service is very fast with many dishes landing on the table within five minutes
Prata was crispy and nice. The sambal chilli was really good - wasn't neither too sweet nor uncomfortably spicy. However, I found the Murtabak (lamb) to be quite quite disappointing. Lamb meat was chunks of sausage meat which weren't very tasty. Dishes were also very overpriced for the quantity served.
Food was packed with flavour and prices were affordable. I'm not usually a big fan of spicy foods, but I couldn't stop eating (and sweating!).
I hope they will stop giving out plastic straws for everything in the near future!
Nice place with fast service and tasty food. We ordered me gorang extra spicy and it was served with good amount of prawns, fish cakes and spicy level were good too. Roti Canai served with fish gravy was good too.
Simple Malaysian hawker food. Watch them make the roti in the window. My fave: Rojak salad: Prawn and coconut fritters, fried tofu, hard-boiled eggs, freshly shredded yambean and cucumber, topped with a thick spicy peanut sauce. $3 to BYO (I pick up a bottle of red at Aldi 3 blocks away).
Food is without doubt delicious. Ordered Nasi Lemak with lamb curry and Nasi Goren, 3 stars only because lamb curry was icy cold and Nasi Goren was very spicy despite telling them to make non spicy at all.
Better than it was a few years ago.
I used to go to Mamak when it first opened in Melbourne and thought the curry potions were too small and also very salty.
Went back there today as a friend wanted to eat there, I was hesitant, but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of their Nasi Lemak.
Still feel that Malaysian drinks are overpriced for what they are - $4.50 for an iced tea with lime (Teh O Ais Limau)
Shared lots of roti and a mix of satay sticks amongst a few us. The roti is amazing. Would've loved a beer with it though. Didn't appear to have any alcohol for sale.
Do you like roti canai? Then head to mamak, watch the cooks twirl the roti over their heads as you queue for the pillowy, crunchy roti.good stop also for awesome authentic malaysian food, but watch out for death by sugar in their tea tereks!
To be honest, I'll definitely not come back. The serving is so so small and cost so so expensive! In order to fill up hungry tummies, you'll have to order so much more!
The only dish that taste good is sambal and kangkung. Everything else is disappointing.
The roti is soggy with oil, rojak is total waste of money and not even authentic rojak.
Very delicious food. The best Nasi Goreng (Malaysian Fried Rice) I've ever had in Melbourne.
Serving size is a bit small, but it's good in the way that prevents over-eating:). I was still feeling hungry after finishing my meal, but after a while, I didn't feel like I want to eat anything more and was really full.
