Mamak Melbourne reviews
55 Quick friendly service, food was ok but not particularly tasty or outstanding in anyway.
Context: weekend lunch date with husband, paid via gift card, we shared the mee goreng and roti canai
The best lamb curry I've ever had. Melting tasty spicy enough fresh. I don't have enough compliment to give to you. It was exzctly the taste I was looking for for my last day in Australia. Thank you for this delicious moment. 20$ as a main course very generous in meat
TBH, i really looked forward to having these.
But it’s not up to my expectation
Besides there are so many ppl and crowded and noisy. So it’s not a good restaurant to have cosy experience.
But! ROTI BOM is crazy delicious️
I wanna come back later to try again this.
Delicious curry and the roti is very crispy and flaky. Satay chicken is good but it’s not the star of the show. The food portion is not very big but it’s way worth the price you’re paying for.
The food at Mamak is stunning! The dishes are presented beautifully and are loaded with flavor. We tried a roti, noodle dish, and a rice dish with fried chicken and goat curry; everything was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for excellent Malaysian food at great prices.
Reasonable food.
Priced on the higher side.
Asked for some chilli sauce and the guy brought a very tiny amount over to our table. When I went to clear the bill I was charged $5 extra for the sauce.
I heard good things about Mamak before visiting, but it’s a bit hit or miss. Let’s start with the hits. It’s BYO with a minimal corkage. The staff will store your chilled wine and top you up. The egg roti is fluffy and delicious (as well as the curries it’s served with). But the service is a bit slow. There are no wine glasses. The vegetable curry contained barely any vegetables and the Nasi Lemak was pretty plain. The flavours were fine but not great, and the dishes were affordable but didn’t provide value, unfortunately.
Went to Mamak for the first time and was really looking forward to some yummy Malaysian food! Ordered a nasi lemak and was left so disappointed and underwhelmed. The rice was too mushy and lacked any coconut fragrance, the anchovies were not crunchy and far too salty and sambal was meh. Definitely won't be returning again if that's the standard served at Mamak.
The Roti Bom is the Best! Tasty, buttery, crunchy on the outside but gooey on the inside. Perfect combination with condensed milk We ordered Mee goreng, a piece of fried chicken and teh tarik enough to fill 2 hungry tummies. We’ll be back for more!
Delicious! I had the sambal udang and it was the perfect amount of spice their satay chicken skewers are the best tho
Salty food with poor value for money. The Nasi Lemak would have been great if the sambal had less salt considering the anchovies and peanuts are salty enough. The sambal calamari was even more salty with calamari that looked dead centuries ago. One additional roti is 8bucks regardless of whether it is an add on. Service was friendly and prompt but the food is a downer. The table next to mine wasted food too. The set up is so cramped that you can neither enter nor exit your table comfortably. Probably not worth another trip for me.
Good tasting food, quick service and a great spot for lunch.
Honestly the curry's we had we're ok, but the satay chicken is fantastic! I definitely recommend them if you are going here! The only thing would be is that its a pretty cramped but big restaurant, but this isn't a big deal.
The place is spacious, lots of tables, looks crowded. I eat nasi lemak which is aspired from the hotel, the distance from the mercure is not far. Nasi lemak that I eat is not the same as the nasi lemak in Singapore and Malaysia. The side dishes is only sliced cucumbers, anchovies, half boiled eggs, chili sauce. The price is Aud 11.fried chicken adds Aud 4.it tastes much better in its home country.
Good Nasi Lemak. I would say it is a bit expensive. Can't order less than 1/2 dozen satays.can't mix chicken and beef satays if 1/2 dozen satays ordered
I can verify that this is pretty authentic Malaysian food. Good fried chicken with the traditional spice recipe thats common back home and the rojak is pretty darn killer. A little bit on the pricier side though above average ranging from 12 to 18 per plate, but you pay for portion
The place to go when you have major Malaysian food cravings. The fried chicken is pretty incredible. The curry and fried rice was enjoyable too. They're just a tad pricey but it does come at a substantial portion size. Get the roti bomb for dessert it's chewy buttery sweet goodness I'd eat 3 portions if I could.
I went once Mamak in Chatswood sydney. In that good memories of it I went to Melbourne but it was not.good as much as Sydney’s. First to the last were bad at there. I complain the food so the waitress brougt my dish and back to me just as it was! And the kitchen said bra bra.it was supposed to be like that basically.so the dish was just on my table which was I served. Mm.but Mamak in Sydney was so perfect! If you tell this store is good, you should be a bad taste. I bet.
Had the chicken curry, roti telur bawang and mee goreng. The flavour is quite good for a restaurant outside Malaysia. Service was fairly attentive and quick.
Food, ambience, service are good. Teh tarik was nice. I recommend the nasi lemak and mee goreng. My last night in australia is filled with good food by Mamak Restaurant. This restaurant is a walking distance from my hotel. Place is cozy and food is served fast and piping hot. A must try!
It was my first time visiting this restaurant and I was quickly astounded by the customer service and the quality of the food. My family and I were quickly placed a seat once we entered. We did not have any complications whilst ordering the food. The drinks and the food altogether were served in less than 10 minutes which is surprisingly amazing. There is a delicious variety of meals on the menu and I recommend this place if you want an authentic taste of Malaysian food.
