Maker and Monger

I had been eyeing this cheese shop everything I visited the Prahran Market & I finally decided to get the Special Fondue Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Perfect-delicious blend of cheeses, great balance of other ingredients, and perfrct bread to filling ratio.

Even though the place was packed during weekends, the staff were very friendly and accomodating to my questions. They really know their stuff and provides advice on what goes well with their dips and cheese

The cheese selection is curated and great quality, but it’s the staff that make the difference.

They’re knowledgeable on the product AND how to use it. Went to get some ricotta for a ravioli recipe, got chatting with one of the crew who suggested a stracciatella/ricotta recipe blend for similar lightness but extra cheesy stretchiness. (Spoilers: the changed recipe was a hit).

Contrary to some other reviews, I don’t believe this is the best cheese shop in Melbourne. They do have a very good selection for the most part (but miss some quality Australian cheeses, like Holy Goat, that you’d expect to see). Prices are on the high side.

Service is mostly pretty good, although they aren’t always open at 8: 30 on the dot. My tip: always ask for the free tasting, as that’s a nice way to get to try before you buy.

Don’t miss out on Maker and Monger when you’re in Prahran. Its been a while since I last visited and they are still as good!

I had a seasonal toastie, and it was amazing! I wish they were on uber eats so I could have it delivered this morning.

Friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful staff who can direct you to exactly what you’re after. I’ve become hooked on my weekly haul! What a shame. I’ve been waiting to try this so called, amazing toastie for years now. Finally had my chance today only to encounter a rude and unfriendly, loud mouthed staff member. The toasties are all pre-made and sitting in the window, they couldn’t remove an item I’m allergic to and I left empty handed. Not good enough for a toasted sandwich for which you charge $15-$16 for. Glad I’ve saved my money and I’ll make one I can actually eat at home. Such a let down and way over priced.

Horrible experience, extremely rude staff in counter and offered no options for people with allergies, unable to cater to the customer and at best average toasties, why can’t you just make plain cheese toasties

Our fave cheese monger and love their white wine selection from France and Italy. Love Paul, he's so friendly and knowledgable, always brought new great recommendations. Bring back Kimcheese toasties!

It was magical! After we had the toast we wanted to buy all the cheese in the shop! Amazing quality loved it!

I sent a cheese hamper with wine to friends as a gift. It was a beautiful package, with delicious cheese and outstanding customer service. My friends were so delighted. I highly recommend!

Your customer service needs to be improved. While we were waiting for the toasties, my parents were eating other snacks at the table. The worker came and tried to kick the elderly parents out. I saw that and told the worker that we were waiting for the toasties and drinks. While I appreciate the tables were only for the restaurant, due to the time we had to wait for the toasties, they started their snacks first. Before trying to kick us out, it would have been more polite and mindful if they double check the orders. Also there were so many empty tables so unsure if there was any urgency in kicking people out despite we bought the food from their shop. We were disgusted with such behaviour and despite being their regulars, will not go back any time soon.

Best Toastie I’ve ever had!

I don’t know what it is but the bread, the cheese everything included just makes their toasties worth every cent. I had the americano with onion, parsley and cheddar and it was to die for. It was everything I needed on a cold day at the market. Not o it that but the connected cheese shop has a massive variety so you can make your own at home.

Wonderful little set up too inside the market and if you’re in the area I would give these guys a try. Very worth your while to check them out.

Hands down the best cheese stores there is! They have a great team, that are so knowledge on all things cheese and wine. And, there toasties are devine
