Happy belated Valentines Day! We were so excited to book at @makaninmelbourne, one of the hottest new restaurant openings in Melbourne in the last year! From a raw kingfish with avocado mouse and spicy coriander sauce, to fried chicken ribs with the tastiest chilli sweet soy glaze (it was seriously amazing), grilled beef rib an incredible sambal sauce and the salmon grilled in a banana leaf, with jimbaran sauce, just to name some of the dishes we sampled. Accompanied by some incredible 70s/80s funk music, it ended up being an incredible night! We will definitely be back to try their famous Balinese pork hock, which was named one of the best dishes of 2019 by delicious!

Absolutely delicious food. Vegans and vegetarians are not an afterthought as they so often are at other restaurants. These chefs know and appreciate vegetables and vegan sources of protein and serve interesting, mouthwatering dishes. I particularly loved the cabbage salad with satay dressing, but all the dishes I sampled were amazing!

Had our dinner here, four of us. Nicely decorated and good ambience. Experienced staffs and services excellent. Ordered from their menu a few varieties to try. The flavours of the dishes cooked are different from other Indonesian food we normally had elsewhere even though it is an Indonesian cuisine. It was a great experience eating here.

This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend. After going there, I can see why. Loved everything here. Food was so authentic, fresh and delicious. So much thought has gone to it. Portions were generous. Ambience was fantastic. Everything was really clean and on point. Price was reasonable. Staff were really caring and friendly. They kept checking on us and asked what we think of the food. They had good knowledge of the menu and were happy to help. Overall was a really great experience. Would totally come back again.

It was worth the effort to find this place, which was tricky as the entrance is in an alley off Little Collins. Friendly greeting on entry, we were quickly shown to our table. The sharing style menu had so many great options but dietary requirements meant we couldn't really share much. Helpful advice guided our choices and we settled back for a short wait.

The lamb shank mild curry broth was phenomenally tasty. Clever use of spices, slow cooked meat, tomatoes and cabbage combined to create a flavour sensation. The broth was so good I left none. Just when I thought they couldn't top this, the cendol panacotta blew me away. So many ingredients went into this scrumptious dessert that was savoured during every mouthful. My friends also enjoyed their vegetarian dishes and the beautiful presentation from each dish.

Modern, well-lit decor gave the space warmth and atmosphere. Attentive service throughout the visit completed our experience. Would love to try out some of the other offerings on the menu another day.

Great Indonesian food, quite spicy but not a bad thing if you love the heat! Restaurant staff are very friendly and accommodating. Even had the pleasure of catching a photo with Tasia & Gracia in the middle of their kitchen duties! Thanks guys, my friends and I enjoyed the night!

Has potential to be great. The food was decent, tasted nice but the portion sizes were not really worth $30-$35/plate so the meal was a bit underwhelming to be honest. The satay dishes were reasonable value though. I applaud the fact that the owners who were on a home cooking contest are having a go at making a resturant and i think that it is worth supporting peoples dreams so hopefully this place takes off and grows over time:)

This restaurant is impressive. Lively flavours done creatively. We had the banquet, with serving sizes so generous we couldn't finish. Our waiter kindly offered us the option to take some home. Bold interior architecture too.

Explosive flavour, wonderful service and a really funky yet classy environment! Food portions are very generous; we left overly full from just a main and entree!

We compare this restaurant directly to our favourite in Melbourne (Chin Chin) and for us there’s no better complement than that!

Wow, this place is incredible! The food was divine - flavoursome and rich. The service was impeccable - friendly and nonintrusive. The decor and general vibes are suave and delightful. How is this restaurant not hitting the “top restaurants in Melbourne” lists? ! They could double their prices (which are very mild!) and I’d still be happy to come back.

Food was decent and the staffs were friendly enough but I cant justify mixed sambal sauce for $7. We ordered crispy duck but it didnt come with enough sambal sauce and asked for more and didnt think it would cost $7. Overall it a decent restaurant

Food was delicious and well presented. The pork hock is a must try. The desserts were really interesting, especially loved the cendol panna cotta and banana brûlée.
