Maccaroni Trattoria Italiana

Have been a few times now to Maccaroni and the place never disappoints, both in terms of food quality, ambiance, ease of booking and value for money. The Ravioli I was absolutely o die for! 100% would recommend! If I were to take a star away, our table felt our waitress was in a bit of a mood and not too keen with her job - maybe having a bad day. But that didn't take away from the quality of the food. Will be coming back again:)

Tl;dr, this place is pretty average, especially for its price.

Our food must have taken over half an hour to get to the table.

The antipasto looked and tasted great but portions were small.

The mains had the opposite problem with decent portion sizes but horrible plating.

I went with a group and we all tried each other's food.
Out of our mains, the pasta dishes were wildly inconsistent, with some being bland or undersauced and others being completely fine. The pizza we ordered was dripping wet from the toppings. The Risotto was probably the best out of the dishes we ordered.

Really, these are all small issues. But they add up. Not enough to make this a terrible place to go, but not worth recommending either especially when there are better options.

Dined here before heading to the theatre and was pleasantly surprised by this little place tucked away… great fresh authentic menu and cocktail/wine list. Staff are very friendly and accomodating.

Travelling solo and craving a pasta dish, I came across this restaurant when cutting through an alleyway. Cute decor and friendly staff. The Green Fettuccine was delicious, and the garlic bread was great. Tried one of their spritz cocktails, which was also lovely. Would def seek this place out again.

Lovely place for a great lunch! Beautiful restaurant. Tried the gnocchi and it was delicious and the breads were tasty, fresh and really fresh!

Wonderful restaurant with friendly service, excellent vegetarian options and high quality food. Very impressed with the personable service when the waitstaff remembered my request for tiramisu. Highly recommended! Will definitely return in our next trip to Melbourne.

Squid ink fettuccine was probably the best one in Melbourne. Price was reasonable and we loved the service there. Easy location too.

A perfect quick dinner spot before a night at the theatre. Gnocchi was lovely, and enjoyed our drinks. Quick service. Make sure to book ahead, as there was a steady line at the door at 6pm. Also be prepared to sit in a wonky chair and be crammed in to the tight seating space.

Extremely well made pasta, reasonable price for its food. Exceptional chefs in the kitchen. The food was ready in 5 minutes after the order.

The food was great, the staff were friendly and there was a great atmosphere as well as nice decorations.

The food was nice, although I probably would expect the food to be ~$5 cheaper for the quality. The service left a lot to be desired. After not being even acknowledged at the door (not even "we'll be with you in a minute") for 5 minutes, we then weren't given menus for 15 minutes once seated and only received them when asked. Most of the staff did a great job at avoiding eye contact of every diner so they didn't have to do anything.
For a quick meal before the theatre, in a convenient location and with a vegan menu, it's a good option.

Came here spontaneously for dinner.
We were greeted nicely and promptly seated. It took a while to have the order taken but that's fine because it's Good Friday and they communicated that a few tables arrived at the same time. The menu is incl holiday surcharge of 15% definitely on the pricier side. When we ordered, my partner requested his pizza without rocket salad. The waiter repeated the order in a judgemental and rude tone, almost in disbelief. Our friend called him out on that in a joking way to which the waiter didn't look up and just clicked his tongue. This was very rude and we thought it's inappropriate. It's a doable request and if someone doesn't like rocket Salad.so be it! The Margaritas Siciliana and the wine arrived. The wine did not taste fresh. If it was fresh it would have been a nice wine. The Margaritas on the other side.probably the worst we have ever had. Watered down with some sweet sparkly drink and just not what any Margarita has ever tasted like. The Espresso Martini arrived 20 min later because they forgot. They didn't say anything to the fact that they forgot it. The pizza was okay but not great. Overall, it was an OK experience but we wouldn't return.

The pasta was great! Loved it!
Pizza was sooooo salty, because of the olive and another little things which I dont know the name.
Atmosphere is okay, nice decoration.
Service was good. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, we didn’t have booking but I think its get very busy!

While the food was delicious, it was the customer service which absolute sets this place apart. The host was so accommodating despite being so busy, and our server was lovely and funny! Honestly I never leave reviews but this place was just that good!

My experience of this restaurant ended at the door.
My partner and I waited by the door, showing keen interest in the menu while the male waiter chatted with staff and presumably a regular customer for perhaps 5-8mins.
We were after a smaller meal because we wanted to wine more than dine. My partner and I (though looks may be deceiving) are avid wine drinkers, and I have over 10 years of cellar experience.
The male waiter turned his nose at our desire to eat "smaller portions" - an opportunity missed if you asked me, he could have suggest a range of entré size meals, cheeses, breads and platters, or even to convince us to buy a bigger meal -he looked us up and down and walked away. Did not even ask us if we would like a seat!
Other people began to line up behind us while we patiently waited, and when he finally came back to the door, he walked right by us and approached the people behind us, who then pointed at us and said "I think these people have been waiting". I felt judged and snubbed and it really upset us both. I decided we wouldn't be eating there, and stated so.
Whatrver impression he intended was not a nice one, and unfortunately the restaurant missed out on our business and we missed out on what might have been a lovely experience.

Been here twice now, first time food service & drinks were very good but a little too quick, second time they were extremely busy staff came across as arrogant & were more interested in pushing u out the door than having a enjoyable experience, food was still nice

I was very disappointed when the Carbonara wasn’t available due to Easter resources. However, this only presented me with a positive opportunity to experience their Gnocchi Gracchio. This Gnocchi was absolutely divine in its richness and taste. The cheese to pasta ratio was perfectly even and I was delighted with every taste. Finished my whole bowl. The service and staff were very helpful and polite, which only influenced my experience to be a full 5 stars.

The best food and customer service I have had in a very long time! You made our day! We will be back again soon!
