La Tortilleria reviews
82Not authentic, just another cheap imitation of Mexican food, bad attitude of one of your Colombian waitress didn't want to give us some napkins she just did an eye rolling and ignore our request, take care of this because if can not offer good food at least try to bring a good service for your costumers.
La Tortilleria can do no wrong when it comes to yummy tacos. Every time. It has been our favourite local Mexican joint for many years.
I was genuinely excited to try this place based on the glowing recommendations from friends, and I must say, the food exceeded my expectations. We arrived early for Taco Tuesday, and I was pleased to find that Daniela greeted us warmly and seated us promptly, even though we didn't have a reservation.
However, I must mention a disappointing aspect of our visit. One of the waitresses, the one wearing glasses, regrettably demonstrated a lack of professionalism. She carelessly tossed dishes onto our table and even handed us a scorching hot platter without any prior warning. Her unfriendly demeanor and apparent reluctance to assist us left much to be desired.
Having spent a decade working in the hospitality industry, I understand that busy shifts can be demanding, but I firmly believe that courtesy and attentiveness should never waver, regardless of the workload. Unfortunately, this less-than-pleasant interaction significantly impacted the overall dining experience, despite the restaurant's exceptional food.
I sincerely hope that the management takes steps to improve their service and create an environment where customers feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated.
This place is my favourite Mexican restaurant!
It has the most authentic Mexican, lots of vegetarian and vegan options and everything was utterly delicious.
Skip the hassle of choosing your next Mexican restaurant and just come here, you won’t be disappointed, it’s also very well priced only $11 for quesadillas!
I’ve had so much tex mex, so this was very refreshing!
I ordered vegan food but we were brought the pork option instead. I'm a vegetarian and my partner is a vegan so it was a big deal for us. We were very polite and agreed to take a refund. We were only refunded $11 out of the $60 we spent.
Not overly impressed.
Got the set menu ($35 per person). The food was average to be honest, one dimension, lacked punch and flavour. The flan was amazing however. Staff was not overly friendly either.
Also realised that the next day that they over-charged me by almost $25 (I also got two drinks and dessert was extra).
Just ordered take away but the service was excellent, the waiter dude could tell I hadn't been there before but was patient. The atmosphere was great, lots of people having fun and all the drinks looked really good. The food was delicious, will definitely be back!
Fantastic food. Such incredible vegan options and the best margaritas. Best dish was the tostadas, a must try.
Absolutely lovely Mexican cuisine. Dare I say one of the best in Melbourne. Rich in flavours, nutritious and well presented. Clearly made with fresh ingredients and lovingly crafted by the chef's who know what they are doing.
Do yourself a f (l) avour and visit. Bookings are pretty much essential as it is a relatively small restaurant.
The staff are friendly, courteous and welcoming. Bright colours splash across the interior giving it an upbeat atmosphere and ambience.
My only gripe is that you use QR codes to order and cashless payment apparently is the only way to settle the account.
Had a very satisfying meal and look forward to returning soon. Thanks to all!
LaTortilleria is, hands down, the best and freshest tasting Mexican in Melbourne. We have been ordering from here throughout covid and when the world opened up again we continued ordering! But shout out to the customer service- tonight our order was mucked up and the store went above and beyond to redeliver the correct order (so we ended up with an abundance of deliciousness) as well as going the extra mile and calling to ensure it was all delivered correctly. Highly recommend!
Amazing place! As a Mexican, i can say these are the most authentic dishes I've tried in Melbourne. Great service, and upbeat vibes. Fantastic food and drinks overall, the mango mezcal is a must!
As a mexican, the food in this place is close enough to strike similarities with the one back home, but I guess we got there on a bad day for the service staff.
The only conversations with our waiter that were beyond a "yes" or "no" answer was when he referred us to the menu, when he said he didn't have regular mayo when my partner asked to swap instead of the jalapeño one, or when we needed to leave because they had a booking coming.
I can't generalise behaviour but it does affect your experience, because other than those previous mentions, they didn't come once to the table to check on the service, provide water when we ran out or any type of interaction that can make a customer feel like they were being taken care of.
This restaurant has the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in Melbourne. I’ve been there a few occasions at different times and they are always unfriendly. No greetings, no help with the menu, just feel like they are doing you a favor. Food is okay, nothing exceptional.
Very friendly and good service. We did not make a reservation. But they got us a table within 10 minutes although the place was packed. The food was also very delicious. They have an amazing choice of cocktails to choose from. Loved the tacos!
It is the 1st time I’ve ever been asked to leave. When the booking was made, it didn't say that the table was for 90 min. (4 people). The food, meh!
Been wanting to try this place for a while now and was not disappointed! Delicious food, great atmosphere and service was good too.
100% gluten free menu makes dining very easy for our family.
Will be back again and again!
You must first provide your card information when making a reservation through an app. They allow you a set amount of time to eat, like 60 minutes, and they won't let you extend that period. So, you must eat quickly. The food is not bad. However, overpriced. If you like to eat leisurely, as I do, or if you want to go somewhere relaxing and nice, I do not recommend this location.
Best South American restaurant in the west!
The shrimp ceviche is a personal favorite. Note the photo below is the cauliflower version of the dish which is also good.
Tacos are also great including the potato one
Try the coffee horchata drink as well.
Best Mexican food in Melbourne - authentic and fresh.
Have been going here since it opened and was a little neighbourhood gem.
Lively atmosphere, very busy (which is a good thing).
Food was delicious, could do with more flavour in my opinion.
Their salsa was the highlight!
