La Cabra Hawthorn - Modern Mexican

Okay food but extremely rude waiters who tried to rush us out immediately after we finished the food component of our meal. There is a 1.5 hour limit but we were only there for 50 mins and would have kept buying drinks if we didn't feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome. There were 3 empty tables around us.

Will not be back and will not be recommending this place to anyone else.

Waiters were lovely. But burrito bowl was average. Beans were a little dry guacamole seemed from a container and not freshly made. Good location opposite the cinema and outside tables on the pavement

Service and delivery was prompt and friendly. Cocktails delightful. Buffalo wings very tasty, poppers tasty. I like my beef taco it was on the sweet side. My husband said his pork taco was good as well but not a stand out. The prawn taco was bad. Basically not edible. Over cooked as you can see from the image with no flavour. When I went up to pay, I mentioned this to the waitress and she said oh sorry. And then told me the total. I would have thought not being able to eat it would warrant it being taken off the bill ‍️‍️‍️

I had a worst experience there. The front stuff who’s working isn’t friendly and mostly Indian girl who works at the front she always at the phone and doesn’t work either and she did not take my order for 15 minutes. I have to wait till she finishes on the phone and it seems not restaurant’s phone she’s using her own phone just to test her private messages while working at the front.i wonder why management isn’t noticed this so far. Customer service is zero. Be careful people

Booked well ahead for a dinner for 2. Have come here quite a few times with family for dinner, however this time it was quite a disappointing experience. We ordered the stuffed jalapeños which were horrible - just cheese smeared on peppers for $13. The beef tacos which are usually juicy tasted dry and microwaved. I get covid can affect staff availability but consistency should be key.

We asked to sit in the courtyard for dinner and the waiter was quite rude to abruptly say no, I feel like they only care about having customers in larger bookings. And considering we booked well in advance there was no option online to even select the courtyard in the booking system?

We won’t be back again.

La Cabra never fails to disappoint. Been here more times then I can count and every time the food, drinks and service is amazing! One of the best Mexican places around!

I haven't eaten in I can only talk to the many occasions that we had this delivered during Melbourne lockdowns. It was consistently nice mexican food. The prawn tacos were my favourite item.

My wife and I ordered the couple burrito deal today from UBER EATS. Let me just say I am from Southern California so I know good Mexican food. I rate this place 10/10! I got the chicken burrito and it was soooo good! The fries were also quite tasty! Don’t even get me started about the corn! Can’t wait to be able to eat inside!

I would give this 5 stars, however the customer service of one of the staff members were TERRIBLE. Came here this Saturday and walked into the restaurant and waited for staff to seat my partner and I, however was met with a staff member who looked irritated that we had walked in. She sat us down and didn’t speak a word to us. She didn’t show how we were suppose to view the menu or didn’t bother to put a QR code on our table either. We spent 15minutes unattended and had to get up from the table to ask for menus. Another couple who were seated the same time as us were already attended to and had drinks. This staff member knew we were not attended to or even had a bar code. It took another few minutes to a staff member to even ask if we were ready to order. Disgusted by this behaviour and really felt targeted. I cannot believe how we were treated, however did not want to cause a scene. Do better, its 2021.

La Cabra (translation The Goat). Yes they're claiming it, Camberwell Rd, East Hawthorn. Is very very good. Service was quick and the tacos were delicious. I don't say this lightly but probably the best Tacos I had. 6 out of 5 Tacos. Worth the adventure. + some delicious plant based options.

Posting weekdays for lunch can be tricky finding a couple of hours
While it was a gorgeous sunny autumn day it was very cold inside. I felt there was more action up the back of the restaurant than where we were at the front. Might have been warmer too

We've been trying to come since they opened, and we finally made it, a few times already I love this place, great atmosphere, great food. Being from Latin America I appreciate Mexican food and it's usually hard to find good places. I really the twist on the classic whole still honours the authentic Mexican cuisine, and you can tell they use the best fresh ingredients!
And an extra plus add they have vegetarian options. Definitely recommended.

Staff were great and friendly. Really attentive. Key lime pie was nice. I wanted to like this place more but our food just tasted like it came out microwaved. I noticed there were heaps of delivery drivers picking up food so I'm wondering if our dishes were part of a bulk cook up hours ago. When we got our food, especially the tacos, it was almost cold to lukewarm and felt like it came out of a microwave. The corn tortilla tasted a bit stale and the tacos in general were
bit dry and underwhelming. Im sure if it was cooked fresh it wouldve been better.

Had an underwhelming experience at this Mexican joint.ok tasting with the food and bitter with the customer service. We had a party of 10-11 for a friend's birthday on Sunday night, there was a blonde waitress who had attitude+ and not polite, very aggressive when she came out with the food, and service and when we asked politely for some cutlery, she THREW the cutlery on the table and walked off. Pretty appalled with this service. Probably won't come back to la cabra in Camberwell.

Melbourne’s best Mexican food by far. Cheerful ambience, amazing staff. It’s definitely going on my list of returning restaurants. Sophie was our helpful and peppy hostess. We’ll go back to experience their great service again and again.

I was excited to try out La Cabra but to say I was disappointed would be a huge understatement! Whilst the food was pretty good and one waitress was nice and attentive, that is where the positives stop. We knew it was going to be an off night when immediately after being seated we had to ask for a bucket of ice too cool off our extremely hot water which was odd. After this, all drinks we received from the outdoor bar were also not just warm, but hot! Including beer, cocktails and soft drinks. But, to top off an already average night, we were then “served” by an extremely rude and bad tempered blonde waitress. She was snappy with us when an order they brought out was wrong, slammed drinks and cutlery on our table and was just generally horrible to be around. This restaurant has great potential, however, wrong staff and a poorly thought out/ set up outdoor bar made our night out a huge let down. We will not be back.

This is the best Mexican I've ever had at a restaurant. Too much of it seems same-same, with no real flavour to it.
But this was deeelicious! So full of flavour, and really nice to look at on the plate too.

We were a group of 11, and everyone loved it.
Recommend the Chilli Con Carne Enchilada. I could eat this every day of the week.
Service was very good, although the meal was a little slow coming out.
Prices were reasonable too.

Prob would have given 5-stars if not for the fact it was a 36° day and we were out in the courtyard. Nice out there, and not as bad as the temp suggests, but still uncomfortable in that sort of heat.
Shade and fans helped a little. It's nothing a mist-spraying unit couldn't fix though.

The bottles of water came out at tap-temperature, which meant they heated up pretty quickly. Chilled water would help on hot days.

In spite of these (minor) criticisms, we'll be back.
