Il Carretto Pizza Restaurant reviews
58This has been out favourite family restaurant since the dawn of time. I'll Carretto never disappoints.
In my opinion this is the best Italian Restaurant in Melbourne. I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. Food is always fantastic and the service is always friendly. Perfect for a birthdays and other celebrations too
I'm a local just 5 min from home and have been going there for over 20 yrs. Food is fantastic and staff are friendly, I definitely recommend you try it out for yourself or take the family because you won't be disappointed.
GNOCCHI ALLA PANNA is to DIE for! Great service, Dani is our favourite server. Pizza is incredible.all food is great value for money! Street parking is annoying but you forget about that once you start eating. Delicious!
I ordered a risotto and it was very bland, also not a proper risotto it looked like it was boiled rice mixed with cream and mushrooms, not tasty at all.
No frills restaurant. Most staff are friendly. I have been going there for years after tennis. Pizzas are good, but specials are consistently average and a bit overpriced.so stick to pizzas
Local favourite. But please read on. The BEST spaghetti marinara around but this is common knowledge and what most people mention, this is the tip of the iceberg. Their pizzas are underrated- the owners don’t care about corporate delivery services or social media reviews or comments, and for good reason. It is patronised every night in great numbers. Many years ago they bought out the property next door to accomodate their overwhelming popularity.
This is the real deal Italian experience, even Luciano Pavarotti has eaten here, on many dining chairs there is a local or Italian celebrity celebrated with their name and local flag painted on the rear.
You can request the pizza how you like, thin, thick, extra crispy, well done - they speak your language. Gnocchi is top notch too.
They use quality ingredients, especially their anchovies.
Dough is rolled on old Italian marble and the staff flipping are true trained Italians.
The old man was a gem but we don’t see him anymore I hope he is still around, but I’m not sure. He is a lovely man. His son has carried on the business with the same passion to deliver quality food - always friendly and also, with fingers crossed, he’s around to make your pizza because he’s the best. (He’s pictured next to his dad in the massive portrait with Pavarotti)
GUSTOSO!
Classic Italian cuisine. Warm and cosy atmosphere. Great place to take your family and friends. The owner Tony and the staff make you feel very comfortable and welcome. The homemade gnocchi was so soft and delicious.
First time visiting this place. It's very old school Italian that is quite charming and you get what you pay for. I love that it is BYO and no corkage charge! We had the garlic cheese pizza for entree which was delicious. A small main was ordered being a risotto and fettucine carbonara that were tasty and filling. I would like to go back and try the pizzas!
Seafood Marinara nice but long wait Fritto Misto mixed fried seafood, grilled would have been better.
Great Italian food, great Risotto and veal Saltimbocca, good service, It just lacked Atmosphere
Didnt think the food was anything special. Average food, average prices. 2 people on our table got hair in their food which were promptly exchanged. One of the pizzas had missing ingredients which the waitress noticed. It was taken back, missing ingredients put on, further cooked and brought back burnt. Didnt have to pay for the pizza. They offered to bring another pizza but we refused
Good old fashioned food at a reasonable price. Pizza is the way it was in the 70's. Definitely worth a visit.
Really old school pizza. Very tasty. Only 3 stars because while it was delicious, it was quite expensive.
A very genuine Italian pizza/café with an interesting history. Relatively inexpensive with a menu that doesn't seem to change much over the years. Main components of meals are beautifully cooked in the Italian style although accompanying vegetables tend to be seriously undercooked. Servings are very generous. Pizzas are a delight. Wine is reasonably priced and carafes are both good quality and inexpensive. Ambience can be noisy in an almost club like atmosphere.
First visit in at least 10 years. Unchanged. Still the simple, fun, tasty, inexpensive neighbourhood Italian restaurant. Plus rustic carts.
Cheap restaurant. Pizza was good, I like thin crust, but topping wasn’t the best. I mean the shredded sausage. I wasn’t overwhelmed with it. Pasta that my wife ordered was pretty good.
Nice deco, brings you back to real traditional trattoria. I still would recommend to try it for yourself. I’ll give another shot when will have opportunity.
