Ichi Ni Nana Izakaya

Some promising dishes but expected more for the price. Food comes out very quickly which is fine if you're in a hurry but would have preferred a more relaxed experience.

I called to make a booking on the 07/12/2018 around 7: 30pm and then asked them to that we are on the way and we would like to book a table and the receptionist said the earliest she could do was at 8: 30pm so we asked her if there is a waiting list and she said yes so we asked her to just put our name on waiting list because we were on the way and she replied no because we have to wait until 8: 30 quite confused we asked her politely if there were any japanese speakers in the restaurant because i felt the language barrier going on and then she said they are all busy working in my mind answering a call for a reservation is part of work LOL after a few minutes of waiting i get a phone call and then she tells me that i am being RACIST asking for a japanese in a japanese restaurant WOW REALLY GUYS
I TOLD HER THAT I FELT THE LANGUAGE BARRIER GOING ON SO I WANTED TO SPEAK TO A NATIVE SO WE CAN MAKE A RESERVATION AND KNOW THE REASON WHY WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR 1hour when there is no one waiting in the wait list
Sorry for the long review but your customer service really does need to be upgraded the service is really poor

We love this modern take on Japanese food and décor. It's well-priced and the food is yummy and good serves too. The funky multi level building is a great place to visit because there are other venues inside too with music and bars.

Presentation are nice but flavourwise it's ok, not wow but just ok. It's a little expensive than I would have thought it would be. The dining experience is not bad. The ginger mocktail just taste like lemon lime bitters. I must say the highlight for me its the volcano sushi roll. Overall it's ok.

We enjoyed all dishes. The price was bit hight and the restaurant lighting was too dark even hard to see where you go.

Gotta be my favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. The atmosphere is fantastic, the waiters are friendly and knows their craft, and love the sushi and sashimi platter as well as their desserts! Been here twice and had a blast! Will be coming back for more in years to come

Always great food and drink but poor service on this occasion, kicking us out early after spending A LOT of money with a large group on a Saturday night. Hurried us to order desserts, then started vacuuming and flickering the lights at 11pm. Will think twice before coming here for dinner again.

Food was delicious. Fish was fresh and the ribs were so tender. Service was a little slow but they were quite busy. Really nice place

$75 pp for buffet. Pricey, but kinda the norm for japanese food.
Really good food though. The meat melts in your mouth!
Service was a little weird though; no one at reception, but when you come inside they walk you back out to the reception area.
The insistence on waiting for the bill at the table is also a little unnecessary.

Nice setting out the back, the gondola booth is an nice touch. Amazing izakaya food, don’t expect a cheap feed though! Plus they have Orion beer!

We got told many times how many minutes we had left to eat our meal.
The waiter shoved me out of the way a few times to fill water.

Food was disappointing.

From the outside you need to read the overhead or sandwich board sign else you will miss it. Upstairs is a bar. Nice enough place if you get a good seat in the booths or out the back garden. For the value conscious, slightly over price for the quantity you get.

Great food and atmosphere. Slightly expensive but the quality is on point. Make sure to get the ice cream

Food was awesome and Curtis was an amazing host. Highly recommend the Volcano Roll and the Spicy Edamame

I was so excited to go to this place! But ended up being very disappointed! If you want to go to have some drinks in a nice place do it go there! Because the place is really nice looking very modern! But if you want to have nice food I don’t recommend you definitely not get for what you pay!

Very nice atmosphere - would advise to book in advance especially on weekends as they do get busy

The first time i went it was tasty, good service. The second time i got really bad service, had to beg for a green tea. Got a luke warm miso that had actually been sitting on another customers table for 5 mins. And the food was meh. For 20 bucks a bento box will not be going back

Perhaps expectations were too high. Some dishes were exceptional and inspired i.e. Lamb cutlets, while the miso was luke warm and the agadashi (while love the modern spin of mushrooms) tofu was cold and devoid of silken texture. Salmon salad was tasty but way too heavy handed with caviar as was the sushi.
Don't be discouraged, it's still worthwhile, just temper expectations.

Such a cool place; vibe, decor, food was excellent. Service was enjoyable despite couple of stuff ups with the order. Love it, will be back (:
