Ichi Ni Nana Izakaya reviews
81Beautiful meals, and customer service was perfect! Restaurant was very stylish loved the design. Meals came out hot and quick, thankyou for having us
Overrated and overhyped. It doesn’t feel like the authentic Japanese cuisine it claims to be. Food is okay but not for the price
I great Japanese izakaya close to Melbourne's CBD offering great food and cocktails. There's a good variety of meat and vegetarian options as well as a good range alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails. It's a perfect place for a small group of friends to catch up. They have booths set up that fits up to 6 people. The kaarage chicken was moist and crispy, as was the tempura and fried cauliflower. A great place for sharing plates and drinks.
Thank you for a great night of good food, great service, and an upbeat atmosphere. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was exquisite and bursting with flavour. The selection of drinks were exciting and well suited to the menu. It was a great night worth every dollar.
Had a date night here on a Monday. Service was pleasant.
Ambiance was casual and moody with soft lighting. Booth seating is quite tight!
Tried dishes:
• Salmon Sashimi Tacos… VERY moreish! Light and crispy tempura battered seaweed base & fresh salmon topping. Great starter!
• Ichi Ni Maki Rolls… fresh taste with beautiful citrus notes. Great sized dish
• Slow cooked Pork baos… Presentation looked a bit dull. Pork had a surprising hit of spices (i.e. Star anise/fennel seeds). The baos were light, moist and fluffy! Overall, a nice tasting dish but wouldn’t be in a hurry to go back for more.
• Sake (Salmon) Donburi… Our most disliked dish. Overcooked, dry salmon, very undercooked rice, and overly sauced. So disappointing!
• Chashu Pork… Pork was melt-in-the mouth, thickly sliced, and complimented beautifully with the thin slices of pear and slightly sweet sauce on the side.
Cosy and seductive. Lighting is soothing and alluring. Sushi is 10/10. Staff are predominantly from the motherland. Authentic. Will definitely be back.
Went just post covid, had a few tables full and already difficult to hear conversation with the background noise. Good food though, I guess as expected for Izakaya
Consistently good food with really nice atmosphere and decor. The takeaway dinner bento is worth it (<$30) and includes a good variety of food!
Pathetic customer service. Ordered $70 f food via the usual channels and was never received.
Do not recommend.
Awful experience.
Had better Japanese food in a food court. Very cold room, cold food and just bland. We had the $75 banquet upstairs. Would perhaps book downstairs in a smaller party so you can pick individual items that would give more variety and textures than the banquet provides. If u drink allot and don’t mind what u eat it does have a cool decor/ vibe and you will be happy. Wanted to love it but just was not a great meal for me.
The pickup order was delayed an hour due to the excessively demand on Valentine's day, but the friendly staff gave us a bottle of Prosecco and let us enjoy the evening at the road side bar. Absolute lovely time in a bad situation!
Food was okay but the price did not justify the food they brought out in my opinion. The wait time was ridiculously long. Our reservation was at 8: 45pm, we ordered by 9: 00pm and we received our food at 10: 30pm. The waitress was really nice, apologised for the wait and followed up our order to see what was happening. However, at the end of the day waiting one hour and a half for food is not good enough. Overall, very disappointed with our experience here.
Amazing food. Very poor service. Why would you take a booking at 8: 45pm to bring me the check by 10pm? Kitchen closed around 9: 30 and the bar shortly after. We order cocktails, entrees, a big platter, and it all came at the same time. Right after our mains were served we were informed that the kitchen was closing and asked if we would like to pre-order desserts. Went to the toilet for a minute, and when we got back to the table, our desserts had been served without us being there, and picked up by the manager without us even finishing them. By 10: 29 the music was off and all the lights were on. To be such a well known place, with gorgeous food, the service was lacking in every aspect. The manager was the one taking the shots, so no blaming on waiting staff. Will be not coming back. Recommend going for a 6pm sitting on a weekday to not be rushed. Even though we had specified it was a birthday celebration, we felt being rushed and kicked out, and the desserts came with no candels although we had already asked for them to celebrate. Good luck!
I honestly don’t know how this place has an rating average of 4.2. When looking to dine at a Japanese restraunt you’re looking for authenticity and culture. This place has it all. Ive had a great experience here and I’m more than satisfied with their food. Special thank you to Kate who made our night special.
Amazing Japanese food, in a beautifully ambient setting. Cocktails on the rooftop before heading in to dinner is highly recommended! The lunch bento box is probably the best in Melbourne.
Fantastic quality Japanese style food, best I've had in Melbourne, expensive but worth every dollar. Great service too
We had amazing dinner today at Ichi ni Nana. This is out first time here and we enjoyed the food so much. I love the ambience too. With an open area at the back. We will definitely come back and try the other items in the menu.
Ordered sashimi, Ichi ni roll and more (don't have photos of everything).
The food presentation is mediocre - there was no wow factor.
The food taste and quality is average.
Pricing for the experience is not justified as there are plenty of other competitive izakaya dineries that are more worthwhile going to.
Note that the food here is not authentic japanese.
If you were to imagine the Hogs Breath Cafe or Taco Bill of Japanese food, this place would probably be it.
It feels a bit like cosplay Tokyo when you first walk inside. It’s decorated much like a suburban Karachi Chicken shop, and it almost feels ironic?
Every meal arrives worryingly fast - far too quick to have just been freshly prepared - and the quality of food is low, but edible.
The cost is about 30% higher than it probably should be, and you will leave feeling underwhelmed. The staff are friendly, but forgetful, and overall it feels more like a production line, or industrial cantina, than any restaurant.
Go here for a low-effort work team lunch, but don’t take a date, or anyone looking for anything resembling authentic Japanese.
I'll have to disagree with some of the low ratings given to this place. For our group dinner was fantastic, we enjoyed every morsel that was brought to the table. I must say it does help to have someone with you who knows what to order.
Cocktails and drinks enjoyed. Staff friendly with prompt service, considering that they were short staffed due to Covid isolations.
If ever in Melbourne and you are craving some Japanese try this place, you won't be disappointed.
