Hunky Dory Fish & Chips Balaclava

I ordered take away fish and chips from the balaclava restaurant. The chips were very plain and after being told that they had chicken salt on them, I could not see or taste anything. The chips are very doughy and the large size does not fees 5-6 as I was able to share them between 2 people, one was still pekish afterwards. The guy who served us even tried to make us go for a medium and claimed they were "big".

I ordered food from here to be delivered, when it arrived I was missing one of the main items, a burger, I rang the shop and they offered to deliver another one, 25 minutes later the delivery driver rang and said he was in a suburb 5 Klms away at the wrong address and wouldn't bring it to me as he said it was too far, so I rang the shop again and they offered another burger to be delivered but it would take about 25 minutes, so I said don't worry, too late for dinner now, VERY POOR SERVICE, check your orders before sending them out, obviously I'm not the only one that has had this issue either, train your staff a bit better.

This is a great spot for a casual meal. Good value for money imo. Friendly staff. Good portions with fresh ingredients. Couldn't finish our meals)

Check your take away orders carefully before you leave the restaurant! My takeaway bag was missing the grilled salmon. Only discovered when at home & had to venture back out in the rain to pickup. No credit or refund provided.

I went to eat there last night.
The staff were friendly and nice.
I order fish with 2 ‘super salads’ on the sides.
The food was tasty but the only letdown was the size of the fish which was so thin and so small.
Paying 11-12 dollars for the fish, I would expect to have bigger fish.
If the size of the fish was decent then my experience would be really good.
Hopefully they can be more generous next time.

I have been going here since they opened in February and it’s my absolute favorite. Fresh fish and well tasting salads and much more. I’ve been going at least once a week. See you Thursday

Fantastic service, the fish was exquisite & fresh & very tasty. I highly recommend the atmosphere & great food!

Ordered here for dinner and waited an hour to recieve a burger and a salad. Staff were extremely rude and unapologetic. When i asked how long the wait was the young waitress just nodded her head at me and swiftly walked away, then literally plonked my food infront of me and walked away without even a "sorry for the hour wait". I understand if you are busy but the customer service was absolutely disgusting not to mention the below average cold food.will not be returning.

Dined in tonight with my husband and kids, the food was absolutely devine. Although there had been a 45 minute wait, it was most definately worth the wait.
The restaurant was extremely busy and filled with lots of people! (I mean how could it not be busy!)
We take our hats off to all the staff working tonight, especially the lovely and accommodating lady wearing the glasses whom was running around constantly on her feet ensuring everything had been running smoothly. She is a great asset to this business. We will be returning, and look forward to our next visit.

I’ve been coming here since it opened and the food is amazing. Jimmy is a legend, always is up for a chat, and I come back every week for the African. If you want fish, this is the place to go.

This is not your every day "fish & chip shop", it's a great dine in experience. If you're put off by the franchise name don't be. These owners love their restaurant and offer old fashioned attentive customer service. The food is really fresh with a great selection of grilled options for the health conscious and large portions so you definitely won't leave hungry. The owner even offered us a sample of her salt & pepper calamari (on the house) after realizing we we were new to the area, which I highly recommend btw. We'll definitely be back! Thank you.

In an area notorious for the stinginess (cost-cutting and price hiking) of it's hospitality businesses this place is the very notable exception. Already a reliable chain this venue gets all the basics right! Fresh produce (nothing is badder than bad FISH), well prepared. Good service. Clean, hygenic, SPACIOUS, premises. And.holy of holies.large "decent feed" portions not associated with bloomin' Parma.

My only quibble - they have abandoned the fresh oysters. St Kilda is obviously not as flush as it likes to think it is!

I wonder how long all this will last?

I've been a long term customer of Hunky Dory. Balaclava branch is my favourite Hunky Dory Resturant. The food is always fresh and the food taste is great. The customer service is excellent and the entire staff are friendly. I eat here at least twice a week and I do recommend to everyone to try it out and enjoy it.

If you're in town looking for a fish and chips restaurant look no more as this is the perfect fish and chips restaurant.

Veggie burger was too good, but they serve small amount of chips which is normal in taste, but for burger I give 4 Star To hunky dory

Great service, the food was nice. It was empty at the time. Easily accessible by tram and 2 mins walk from the train station.
I though it was a nice touch when in the middle of our dinner a staff member came to check if all was okay.
My friend who's allergic to fish even got to bring in his burger from next door which I thought was a touch of class from the staff to allow that.

The fried flake was alright, though the fries were slightly undercooked. The Greek salad was quite tasty. However, the Salt n pepper squid was like chewing rubber fried in bad smelling oil. When I asked for tartar sauce (which they forgot with my original order) they charged me $2 for the smallest dollop not bigger than my thumb.

Ah yes, I know it’s a chain but it’s a quality experience. Hunky Dory is a welcome addition to the Carlisle Street shopping strip. Recently opened, it’s been a huge success with its quality offerings and therefore it is no wonder it’s full almost every night. My friends and I went for the takeaway experience tonight and we were very happy with it.our opening snacks - a scallop and a prawn - were delightful. My blue grenadier was delicious. Just beautifully cooked and oh so tasty. The chips were beauties too. Add a tangy Greek salad with feta and you’ve got a seriously winning experience. My friends burger looked incredible too and he loved it. Good place. Good food. Well cooked and very nicely presented. These people know their seafood. Recommended.

Hello I m a Deliveroo rider and I plz too all that don’t order food from this restaurant Bcz u will never get a food before 2 or 2: 30 hours and even kitchen staff is rude to us for we are avoiding to go to this restaurant.
