Holgate Brewhouse reviews
74 Restaurant was not very well lit. Made it hard to read the menu.
To get to the restaurant you have to walk through the bar serving area so it is difficult to get through if there are a few people waiting to be served at the bar.
Prices are on the high side and the food is reasonably good.
Asked for no ham on my Parma (which I received) and I didn’t really want this huge chicken leg either - bizarre!
Good beers though!
Salmon was cooked perfectly & I enjoyed it very much. A little bit let down by way too much soy sauce on the rice. Maybe serve it on the side would be better
Great pub, good atmosphere and a fantastic outdoor spaces for when the weather is good. Does it's own beers as well if you're into that sort of thing.
Food not worth it people get off chairs you feel floor moving 3 out of 10 not good service good food not
The food here is good but you come here for the beer.
The variety of beers is impressive. The best way to navigate your way through their variety is to order a tasting paddle. Armed with tasting notes, you can then work your way through the paddle and discuss the pros and cons of each with friends.
A visit to the brewery next door is a must. You can choose from the wide variety and take home a few favourites. Some of the beers are packaged in cans while others are in bottles.
The staff at the hotel were good but the staff at the brewery next door even better.
Holgate Brewhouse is a great place to visit when in Woodend. This pub and brewery has the best location in town from a hospitality perspective. It's directly across from the Clocktower with plenty of parking nearby. Worth a visit!
Did the Family Easter gathering here in the
"Lead Light room"
It was a great venue and worked out well.
Parma was good, steak sandwich was not great.
Overall it was a great day and I can recommend The Holgate for a large family catch up
The beer was good and the burger was good and the live music was good and everyone was nice and all but my god the CHIPS were up there with the best I've ever had in my life wow and they gave me loads what a day.
Great food and good service, their in house porter is really good one of the best craft beers I have tasted, unfortunately didn't have the time to taste their other beers.
Our lunch was delicious, very busy place, but nice sitting outside in the sunshine watching the world go by
Very mediocre; meals were not exceptional, but great for a stopover feed. It wasn't until after we ordered that we overheard the staff telling other patrons there was a 50 minute wait on the food, which was quite frustrating as we were not informed.
When offering a gluten free version of a meal, then it should resemble the meal originally offered. I ordered the gluten free fish and chips, which are meant to be battered and fried with potato chips. What I was given was a few pieces of fish that had been grilled to resemble the texture of worn leather, with no flavour whatsoever. Instead of potato chips, I was given a half serve of sweet potato chips which I don't even like.
It's simply not ok to charge those prices to simply phone it in just because you can't be stuffed catering for different needs. I would rather go hungry than ever return here.
Stopped in a couple of times.
First was a night cap and the second night a few beers then dinner.
Beers were good with a great selection. I had the beer float and liked most with the one I didn't being more my tastes than the beer itself.
Food was pretty good, all 6 of us enjoyed what we chose.
Happily go back
Went to celebrate husband 60th thought it it be nice a little local beer brewery. Got there a little before 12 noon for our reservation at 12 we went in to be given 3rd degree of how we got inside as they not open yet the doors should have been locked then to be asked to go back outside in the cold and wait for them to open up which they late in doing.
Food was nothing to special very ordinary.
Service was poor.
Atmosphere was lacking.
Beer was that flash either.
Poor choice for special occasion.
No recommendations will be made from our group.
We wont be back.
Be aware that they don't refund payment for bookings in case of lockdowns. I cannot understand businesses that take this approach during a pandemic
Popped in to pick up a few takeaway tasters and found some fellow cyclists in the shop… had an excellent pint of session beer… and will definitely be buying more
We sat in the courtyard with our dog, it was lovely. They have some great beers on tap and nice atmosphere. We didn't eat but the serves looked big and the food looked tasty. We'll be back!
Great beer and great food! Something on the menu for everyone, including a very good vegetable curry.
We had the popcorn chicken as well as the fish and chips. The food was great. The venue is great too - nice and warm on a cold evening. Great service and great beers. All round.great!
Had lunch at the Holgate with my family. Couldn't pay by cash, only by card. I don't have a credit card and I only use cash. Food was nice, but too much! It also needed seasoning and too much chips! Service was craps.
