Hochi Mama

Noticed the great reviews so called on Sunday at 5pm to make a booking for Monday evening. It was a birthday for 6 people and I requested a booth/sofa seating. Was told there could be no guarantees for seating (even if it was a special occasion) and she wasn't sure if they had booth type seating - so I suggested she check the website. I was told a credit card would be needed for the booking and we would be required to have their banquet at $60 per head. We had an 11yo and also a Vegan in our group so I asked what if we didn''t want the banquet - The answer was 'We cannot take your booking''- so we did not book. I find this quite astounding taking into account the current hospitality situation. In our business group we also have a restaurant so we do understand something about this industry and tough times Based upon this experience I would give zero stars however based upon all the other reviews and as a sign of good faith, I will give 3 stars.

If you love asian food with a twist definitely check out Hochi Mama. The chicken bao was fantastic. The bao was fresh and the meat was juicy. Ordered a plate of fried chicken and the dip definitely takes the flavor a notch higher. Their take on the pad thai was interesting and on the sweeter end which I enjoyed (not everyone on the table did though).

The manager was cheerful and service prompt. Will be back to try out more dishes on the menu. Cheers!

So good! The cocktails can be paired with the food, and the food is just incredible. Steal a comfortable couch table on the right hand side if you can

HOCHI MAMA, Little Bourke Melbourne. @hochi_mama has moved homes and is now located on the upper end of Chinatown. Last weekend was their soft launch before finally opening their doors, we devoured some of their delish menu items and checked out their amazing drinks menu!

Cocktails and mocktails were so beautiful and Combined with their Asian fusion menu it was the perfect cheeky treat. The salmon ceviche, fried prawn dumplings, rice paper rolls, fried chicken, scallop skewers and the beef pad Thai were delish. My fav was the ceviche and the beef pad Thai

The new decor is absolutely stunning with velvet seats and neon lights. R&B tunes, instamodels, gorg wall art and dim lights bring such a night vibe! Can’t remember the last time I went to such a trendy place I had a great time people watching, enjoying the food/drinks

Really disappointing experience since moving to its new location, and I used to love it! Portions smaller, really slow service and rude staff. I actually contacted management about my poor experience and no response. I won’t be going back.

Went there for the 30th birthday from my friend. Staff is super lovely - the southside curry AMAZING. We had the 2 entrees + 2 mains with a side + a bottle of wine for 130 aud. The portions are massive! Would always go there again. Honestly - one of the best lunch which i had here so far in melbourne. Thanks for making my friends birthday lunch so great!

Awesome, love the idea of suggesting in the menu what drinks go with what dish and vice versa. Cant fault it. Well done.

Absolutely loved our night at Hochi Mama. The food was great, the wait staff were bubbly and shout out to Tai for being an incredible host! We will definitely be back!

Our group had 8 people so we had to do the banquet. Plenty of beautiful and delicious food and we were so full! The new location is beautiful! Fantastic atmosphere.
However, I would've given 5 stars if the service was quicker. They could've used additional staff to cater to the crowd on Saturday night. Music was very loud too. They didn't ask us to check-in via QR code. No codes on the table. They can certainly improve on this. Overall experience is great. I would definitely come back.

We had a booking on Saturday 20th for a group (10) with some dietary requirements which I called ahead to advise and allow ample time for preparation.
Unfortunately the party occupying our table in the earlier timeslot refused to leave and left us standing outside for over half an hour leaving only about 1.5hr of our booking. Management could have done far more to move on the prior party and we were not left with any apology from the staff.
What we could eat of the food was lovely however dietary requirements were not met and had to be reminded on every course/ multiple dishes had to be sent back and some members of our party only received a couple of plates they could eat.
Management were rude and unhelpful, other staff were ok, the gentleman we paid at the end was absolutely lovely and asked to give a good review (sorry not happening but you did brighten our poor experience slightly).
We will not be returning and do no recommend for larger groups.

Asian fusion at its finest. Whether your are slightly hungry or feel like you can eat the entire menu, you can! Dishes are served tapas style and you’re able to pick and choose what you desire. The cocktail list is extensive and a must try (certain drinks are also served in mocktail form for you non drinkers). Order to your heart’s content

Kinda disappointed with HochiMama. Glad I didn’t pay full price for my pad Thai because the whole meal was just way too salty. Thankfully they gave me some lemon which helps, but if I had to pay $13 for this, I definitely won’t recommend it. Thankfully I got it through Mealpal, otherwise I would have been completely annoyed. I buy Mealpal so I can try different food and then go back to have sit down meal there. I definitely won’t be having a sit down meal at Hochi Mama that’s for sure!

Very #goodasianfusion and #goodservice. Inside is way too loud, don't seat inside if you're planning on chatting! And the wood-box tables outside are a bit uncomfortable. Beautiful #tofucurry

It was f@#$%^g fantastic! Needed a quick bite to eat, saw a table. Ordered & wow! Such fresh & tasty morsels provided by way-to-cool fun staff!

We loved the atmosphere and food. The “me hungry now” special is a great value and easy way to sample many items off the menu.

The ambience was great! Definitely need to have a prior booking to avoid excessive waiting times, the bao’s were my favourite!

Great share plates. Service is okay. Just too squeezed in and the 2 hour time limit is ridiculous and you lose a star for this.

The food tastes amazing: there is a wonderful balance between genuine, authentic Thai food and modern touches which really complement the dish. Cocktails are also presented in a nice way, but above all: taste good.

You get what you pay for: great value for money.

Fast and efficient service from friendly staff. Though the lunch menu was fairly simple, the options available are diverse enough to provide different choices. The entrée fried chicken and chicken curry I had were delicious and I would strongly recommend them to others.

Impressed with the quality of food but most of all impressed at the price/quality ratio. A relatively fast-paced place; food comes quickly and when reserving a table, you're expected to be out in 90mins.
