Doesn’t take cash and only accepts card. You don’t like people paying for stuff with money? Doesn’t make sense.
Hipsters.

Omg I had the crispy chicken roll with pickles. I thought I died and went to heaven. BEST fried chicken roll ever

Quite expensive and can be a long wait on the weekends but damn if they aren't absolutely amazing! The Beef and pickles is my fav, loaded with meat and toasted perfectly.
The mushie melt is a nice vegetarian option too!

If you are sandwich lover, then make sure you try their sandwich.
One small tip, make sure you have enough, because they are always busy, due to high demand of their sandwiches.

Have had both the fried chicken sandwhich and tuna melt, both delicious! Chicken was tender and juicy. Condiments on both were so good. On each occaision it was a 1 hr wait during lunch hrs on the weekend.

Marinated eggplant, stracciatella and pesto sandwich and pickled mushroom toastie really hit the spot! Staff are absolutely delightful and the coffee was top notch
- parking is a little difficult and limited seating

Some of the best sandwiches in Melbourne. Ingredients are fresh, good quality and so tasty. Be prepared to wait a bit, but is so worth it. Cinnamon scroll is also very good but overpriced - $6 for a tiny scroll!

Tasty sandwiches but ultimately was a very long wait for somewhat pricey sandwiches which weren't super unique or interesting. Worth a visit when there is some good weather to wait in.

Been a long customer of Hector’s Deli. Awesome sandwiches and was stoked that the hot menu was back… Just did not appreciate it when the lady taking orders this afternoon decided to call me “bro” and “man”… I wasn’t the only one. I’m not sure how many other people didn’t like this, I just find it unprofessional to make those calls after taking a 10 second order. Other than that, sandwich was okay.:)

Pretty tasty sandwiches but the customer service of the place ruined the experience.

When we arrived there was a long line as expected and we were looking forward to ordering the tuna melt and chicken. When we placed our orders we were told that the tuna melt was sold out which was fine.

As we waited for our order the person taking the orders yelled out we are sold out sorry everyone. Then 10 minutes later he says “we have 20 tuna melts left only” despite telling us they had sold out?

Then after 30 minutes he yells out “45 minute wait on the beef sandwich” - we had ordered one and we saw people that had ordered after us getting theirs before us it seemed to be no proper system.

Not sure what happened that day we visited with the miscommunication but it probably wasn’t the most professional thing to be telling customers. If your sold out of something then say it but don’t suddenly have 20 more 10 minutes later.

I might come back if a proper system is in place such as being to able to pre-order off an app and you can see what is available etc.wasn’t sure happy either paying $55 for 2 sandwiches and $2 coffees so it would have to be a one off occasion I guess

**UPDATE

Excited for the return of hot menus.but left disappointed - the chicken sanga was bland. Understood there were number of staff training, hoping to come back to the old chicken sanga which was very tasty!

Will still come back another time to try other sandwiches.

Went there for the hot sandwiches but they weren't doing them due to covid and long wait times. Their fresh stuff did not disappoint!

If you're in the neighbourhood, well worth a visit!

Sandwich were well made. Perfect balance of the flavour and the meat was a good too.
Definitely come back for more.

I feel like these are the sandwiches from that episode of 30 Rock. Yeah that one.
And don't be afraid of a long line, it's a slick operation.

Not only was their beef and pickles ace, they gave me a generous discount after I mentioned I just got off working night duty. How kind!

This is my review:
Today I went to hectors deli. I ordered two sandwiches. Roast pork and BLT. They were the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. It reminded me of the hundreds and thousands sandwiches my mum used to make me in grade two, the tastes are so very different. I’m talking about how they made me feel. I felt loved because my mum was working 3 jobs but still managed to find time to pack my lunch because I was a tiny kid with no life skills. This is how these sandwiches make you feel. You feel loved. Loved like you have nothing to worry about because someone is making you beautiful sandwiches. Highly recommend. I’ve now had all the sandwiches. I only wish they came in little sandwich taster packs. Where you get a quarter of each sandwich. That way I won’t have FOMO every day. My mum also packed in my lunch box a prima juice box, a rainbow roll up and an apple. So in conclusion- I miss my mum!

ALERT! If you're after their hot sandwiches, they don't have them at the moment and probably won't until after lockdown or when their new shop in south Melbourne is open.

By the time i had waited in line, probably about 30-45 minutes (arrived around midday), Hector's Deli only had 3/5 or 6 choices left on a Saturday.

Their website still has their hot sandwiches up which I was very much looking forward to but alas I was a bit heartbroken when they didn't have it in offer. I wish they could update their website to say that only cold sandwiches are on offer.

We got a roast pork and eggplant - both were delicious, sesame crusted fluffy yet chewy bread and excellent sauce - maybe a form of sauerkraut fennel with like a pesto like sauce heftily smeared into the bread.

Tbh i wouldnt wait this long again for their cold sandwiches but am still dying to try their hot sandwiches once their south Melbourne store opens or in hopes they serve again in Richmond. Fingers crossed soon!

Small line upon arrival. 10 minutes to get to the front. We ordered chicken salad and roast pork. We were given our sandwiches instantly! They were just smashing them out. Probably only have to wait if you’re getting a coffee. Chicken salad was … so good. Really refreshing and tasty. Roast pork wasn’t my thing but my boyfriend enjoyed it. Again fresh ingredients go a long way. Around $30 bucks for two sandwiches, fresh ingredients, and fast take away, this place is on my list. Thanks guys and well done for staying strong during these lockdowns. See you soon!
