Hawker Chan reviews
51The bbq pork is still a fair bit off the mark compared to bbq in Malaysia but it's the best I have had in Australia so that's gotta scratch an itch for those of us who can't travel to Malaysia.
I've eaten here previously a few months ago and the chicken was perfectly cooked, although this is the chicken i received recently. It's a shame because I know how good this place can be yet this is what I was served.:/ The noodles were fine but I wish I could enjoy the full meal.
Non existent customer service- simply awful. Do NOT GO ON WEEKENDS. They've introduced something called a "HOLIDAY SURCHARGE" on normal weekends (ie non holiday weekends) = 10% of Bill. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
Come all the way from Sydney. Worse customer service (lady service in the morning on 25 April around 11.30am) please retrain as soon as possible, if the duck sold out. She should explain nicely as normal person will do but she was very rude.
She shouldn't work as customer service! She just bring the restaurant rating. Very Disappointed
It is one of the better places to get Cantonese style barbeque in town. However, I personally find it difficult to call it a Singaporean restaurant. Don't get me wrong the food is good regardless, even though it's not as good as the original
Disappointed. We came here expecting a michelin starred hawker, but the foods did not taste as expected. The foods were not hot. Duck and chicken skins weren’t crispy. The only difference between small and regular size is the amount of meat (in my case, 5 extra pieces of crispy pork). They also added a shrimp paste sambal for the noodles. At least the foods were still edible.
I was lucky enough to visit @hawkerchanaustralia and try their new menu -? ? !
I’ve always loved their noodles and pairing it up with the roast duck is yummm! And of course we had their classic chicken, char siu and roast pork to complete the meal!
You sure this is Michelin star restaurant? The only piece of cucumber is not even fresh, no water serve. Terrible service. Can anyone cancel their fake michelin star?
Severely overrated (if you follow the Michelin Guide) restaurant specialising in Cantonese-style roast meat. Extremely small portions of meat and rice with flavours comparable to other Cantonese-style roast meat restaurants in the CBD. I'd say it tastes a little nicer than Pacific BBQ House, feels cleaner than Rose Garden and, unfortunately, isn't as satisfying as China Bar on Russell St.
Quick, cheap, and delicious is what you’ll get at the world’s cheapest Michelin-star restaurant.
I’ve visited Hawker Chan on multiple occasions - on my latest visit I tried their exciting new menu item, Roast Duck! Available in half or whole, or with rice, noodles or hor fun. Succulent and delicious, and served with their house-made plum sauce which goes well with rice!
Of course, a visit to Hawker Chan is not complete without their famous Soya Chicken - I highly recommend having it with their springy egg noodles, the flavours are just amazing!
If you’re looking for something vegetarian, their Thai Style Tofu is definitely worth trying. It’s crispy, sweet, and highly addictive!
Thanks for the invitation!
I can’t believe I just tried Hawker Chan. I missed out BIG time. Their crispy pork belly is amazing! I absolutely love the bbq pork too. Don’t get me started with their soy chicken. So good for it’s amazing value.
Not a fan. Chicken is dry, warm and even the rice isn’t fresh. Overly salty as well. Better off at pacific BBQ next door 100%. Must be out of your mind to give greater than 3 stars
This place is disgusting. I could get over the lack of atmosphere and rude staff if the food was good, but it just isn't. Go elsewhere.
Bad food and average service. Not value for money as well.
The roast pork is not fresh- it tasted sour in a bad way. You are also requested to take the food to a tray, which isn't normally required in similar priced setups. Won't be back again.
Initially when they first opened the barbecue pork was good. Not any more. The meat now is very fat and they serve you leftovers meat from previous night. The wanton skin is thick unlike when they first opened. I no more go there.
Over priced meal with little portion that is not worth the price. Definitely left over food from yesterday being served for take away order. I ordered roasted crispy pork with dry noodles and my crispy pork is so dry it’s comparable to pork floss texture (due to the roasted pork left under the heater for too long). Seriously concerned about the quality and safety of the food i bought, nevertheless, overpriced and severely dissapointed. 1/10 don’t ever visit, the standard of their food is lower than China Bar now.
Whilst the food is good. Portion for the price is left to be desired and portion size not great. There are better options in the city given the portion and price.
Really unpleasant food to look at with average taste. Ordered the Pork Chiasiew Rice and Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle.both were cold. I had asked them to cook it properly and warm it up and was given another cold plate of food.
Wondering what the hype was all about, I gave it a try. A plate of chicken noodles cost $6.80. A reasonable price you'd think until you realize it is literally a mouthful of food. The end result is you probably need to order 2 or 3 times more to be satisfied. Its tasty of course but not significantly better than other restaurants in Melbourne that serve the same thing.
Update. Prices went up to $9.80 a 30% increase, portion size increased by 0%. Will not return nor recommend.
This place has really gone down the drain since Mr Chan left Melbourne. Cold hard rice, small serve of chicken (smaller than Sg's), and even the char siew had become way too fatty and chewy (nothing worse than chewy char siew) They have gone from the best to worst char siew in Melbourne within few months. What's happening?
