Hakata Gensuke Ramen reviews
56We ordered black tonkatau ramen and god fire (level 3). We really liked both of our ramen but the black tonkatau lacked the flavour of black garlic that I was looking forward to but was still very tasty. Really recommend the extra egg topping if you want to taste something really creamy and tasty.
Probably my favourite Ramen in Melbourne. My Ramen of choice is the god fire. Now I like it a bit spicyer than most and a level two on the god fire is plenty. Sure to warm you on a cool Melbourne day. The flavour of the pork broth base is spot on. There are a couple of other Ramen places in the city that are also very good, but having the spicy god fire version sets Hakata Gensuke above the rest.
I lived in Tokyo for three months and only found one ramen place that is better than this one. Amazing ramen and wonderful to have this in Melbourne!
The broth is good. However the ramen itself is normal. The space is crowed. If you sit next to the door, it would be very cold at night.
Ramen was amazing and as good as Japan. Definitely advise arriving a little earlier than you want to eat as there will most definitely be a line. PSA God's Ramen is not as spicy as advertised!
One of the best (If not THE best) ramen I've had in Melbourne! The only downside is the wait for a table (larger groups of 3 or more will at least wait 30 mins), although if flying solo or in a pair you've got a better chance of being seated quickly. Broth is amazing, meat is cooked to perfection! Definitely would recommend!
A cheap experience for a premium price. There are ramen restaurants nearby that offer better service at better prices, go there.
I've eaten here so many times. I must come here at least once a week. The food has been consistently good for years now. It is my favourite and I recommend you to everyone.thank you and keep it up
Great ramen, friendly staff.
However, the restaurant is crammed, very noisy and because there is always a very long line outside, you will rushed through the whole experience. I guess it's all part of the experience.
Definitely a place to try if you have never tried it before. Not a place to go on your first date!
This place is so popular we just had to try it out.
You queue up on the street outside (in any weather), you fill up your order as you wait. They are pretty efficient but there is still a wait almost anytime you'd come.
They have a few options of ramen, which are very different in flavour. We've tried the black one and the spicy one. Both were pretty good, but not to die for. I've had better ramen in other places.
Price is about ~15$.
So my bottom line:
It's good, but not worth queueing up outside in the street
One of the best ramen broths I've tasted. Love the gyoza, and love their karaage. It's authentic and different, even though I had a different type of noodle in mind! However one time we were waiting for almost one hour because of unfair waiting line! There was this group of people suddenly barging in bcs 2 of their friends had waited. Cost y'all a star.
Good ramen. Expect to line up a while before you get a table. A waitress even handed out menus while we were in line and took our ramen orders, before being seated.
Disappointing and over rated ramen. They say the egg is flavoured but it was not flavoured at all - only boiled. My ramen was not hot. Don’t know how people can say that this ramen can compare to Japan’s ramen but it is not even close to it. Yes the experience is like Japan’s but not the food. Waited more than 40 minutes in line. Not worth. I’ve had better ramen for cheaper and without the wait in Sydney.
The ramen was as good as I expected but the “fried chicken” was even better than the ramen. Please have it with your ramen! Highly recommend!
Been wanting to try this restaurant for a while but there's always a long queue. This time I finally decided to put up with the long wait. Once seated the service was quite fast and our food came out shortly after. I had the God fire ramen which I wouldn't rate but I did get to try the signature which was amazing. The broth was thick and creamy and really rich in flavor. I'd definitely recommend the signature ramen. The gyozas were average.
