Hakata Gensuke Ramen reviews
56 Dropped by for lunch. I was a bit disappointed. I got the Signature Ramen noodles ($19) and my partner got the Vegy Ramen ($20).
The Signature Ramen
With a thick meaty broth it was a nice combo with good noodles. Had 1 piece of char sui and some fungi. Simple and made well but expensive for what it was.
Vegy Ramen
It was just a vegy broth, very simple with no miso or soy. Honestly this was disappointing, and didn't feel like Japanese ramen. Got it with the "hard" texture noodles, but it was the same as normal.
While ok, I think there are better options around in Melbourne for the same price range.
I usually handle spicy food well, but today I wanted to taste the broth more, so I ordered level 1. Ramen was good but extremely spicy, it overpowered everything else. I don’t think they actually read the level you choose, they just put a standard amount. The guy sitting next to me was also struggling. The space is small and today it was really hot and humid inside, the AC was off. You have to eat and leave as it is pretty busy. I would not stand in line to eat here again.
The Karaage and Kyoza here and the sides are so good, and God fire ramen is really really good, nice staff and bright, clean place. It is the best restaurant in Melbourne
Had the Signature Tokotsu ramen and a side of karaage. The soup was nice and hot, and delicious. The karaage was freshly cooked and very, very, nice.
Volume of noodles was on the lighter side but the taste made up for it. I'll be back for sure.
Ramen was great but not amazing. Ordering is very easy and only yourself to blame if wrong (on phone) would be nice if they allowed you to buy additional spicy on the side.
Noodles 10/10
Broth 8/10
Add in’s 8/10
What an amazing ramen bar! The 1st place two years straight as Ramen Champion speaks for itself. Every bit of the ramen was perfection - the flavour, the noodles, the thickness of the soup - exceptional. Better yet, all the staff seem happy to be hear screaming "Arigato! " as diners leave. The waiters made great suggestions of what to try. We came here when it wasn't busy, so there was a calm vibrant vibe. But I was told there's usually a long line to eat here. Lucky got us there wasn't one tonight. Yum!
Ordered the God Fire Ramen ($20) which does not include egg — most ramen places include marinated egg by default. You can top up with an egg for $2.50. The broth lacked richness, the broth mainly tasted spicy and that was it. Noodles are on the thinner side. There are customisation options such as saltiness of broth (I opted for normal) and doneness of noodles. Friendly service, you get greeted by the entire team in Japanese upon entering the restaurant.
Don't recommend this ramen place unless you love extreme spice. There are better ramen around at this price point and lower.
Lining up to get into this ramen shop.
0 regrets.
Saw the menu while waiting and ordered straight away when got in.
The soup were rich in flavour.
Noodle was cooked in perfection.
Definitely coming back for more!

I ordered the God Fire Ramen in Level 1 spiciness and I loved it
Their kaarage chicken is the best one I’ve ever had so far. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Awesome spot for Ramen.can get quite busy so best to get there early. All the ramen we tried was great and sides were also delicious don’t believe the hype next door this place is fire
The ramen is very good. You can choose the texture of noodles. The ramen soup is very tasty and creamy. The meat and veggies are very limited per bowl. I tried few ramen place, this is one of the best that I tried. This is the closest to how you had ramen in Japan. Avoid busy time. There is always queue outside. Very limited seats too. Not situable for large group.
Amazing deliciousness! 10/10 I picked up a “make at home kit” from the Russell street store in the CBD! My partner and I had a bowl each and I finished mine way too quickly! Luckily I had a second serve for 2 days later because I purchased 4 bowls: D
Thanks for staying open! Thanks for making a delicious broth!
Ordered takeaway, and the waitress asked me to go outside to wait for the food with very bad tones. Why? ! Didn’t I pay? I’m not here to beg you for food. Also the shop owner with the waitress are speaking Cantonese, I doubt is the food authentic.
Always happy to dine hear. Good atmosphere. No need to wait for table service as you can order directly through the we link. Fast, friendly and efficient service.
Authentic Japanese restaurant that doesn't have a Korean or Chinese fusion undertone.
Best ramen in Melbourne in my opinion. Unfortunately, their prices have gone up over the years, and their serving sizes are tiny for for what you pay
Service is quick, menu is straight forward and food was amazing. I love ramen and been having it for years. This place always has a queue hence I’ve never been there till today. Got lucky. I had the black tonkatsu. The broth is really good. Might be a bit heavy for some, probably the only feedback I could give if they could add another slice of the pork
Else everything else is lovely. You pay for what you get. $16-$17 a bowl unless you go for the premium toppings which adds up to $25ish.
Great ramen, but I simply wanted a little more chilli after it arrived. They said it was physically not possible for them to serve chilli to me after ordering and I'd have to buy a whole new bowl of ramen and select a higher spice level. I offered to pay extra, still, no, was told to buy a new bowl and that a side serve of chilli in any capacity was not possible.
That's pretty ridiculous in my opinion. Pretty much the opposite of hospitality.
Best ramen in Melbourne. Best depth of flavour and richness. Service is really fast. Karaage is so good too! The gyoza flavour is lacking but otherwise everything else is fantastic. I’ve been here multiple times and it remains my holy grail ramen in Melbourne
As always amazing ramen. Got the new limited edition type with black garlic and God fire Level 2. Was really good an interesting mix!
I never leave bad reviews, but our experience here was tragic. My girlfriend is vegetarian and on the online menu there was an option to take meat out of the ramen, because there was NO vegetarian options, so naturally she chose to remove the meat. Immediately after receiving our order, they told us that no meat was impossible? S o why would there be that option then? When I asked for a refund they were extremely rude about it even though I asked politely.
