Hakata Gensuke Ramen reviews
56A favourite spot to get quality ramen in Melbourne, Australia. Great spot to go with friends and share some sides and wash it down with tasty soup.
Been a while since I ate here and for me don’t think its worth the wait in line anymore. I mean, still a decent ramen but not sure if it’s the best in Melbourne as some say. Also management might have changed? Kitchen staff and wait staff used to be Japanese but not anymore.
Absolutely delicious! I've visited various Ramen stores all over Melbourne and this is definitely in my top 3. The signature Ramen is definitely a go. Really easy to use online menu that has various options like saltiness of your soup and level of spice to name a few. The sides (karage chicken and gyoza's) were also amazing.
There is a reason there is a line outside and it's definitely worth the wait.
Service was excellent and the wait time after ordering the meal was not long at all.
Honestly felt like I was back in Tokyo enjoying this beautiful meal.
When I saw such a long waiting team, I supposed it should be a good restaurant. However, it's just normal and nothing special. Ramen soup is good but size is quite small. Steamed rice is cold and hard. Also, chicken karage is just like what you can get in any Japanese food court. Anyway, it's not a good worth.
Broth is good, chushu could be better and the noodles could be better but overall good, if your craving ramen hard to get better in Melbourne.
Ordering is very easy and you can customise your ramen. The gyoza and karaage chicken is delicious. Limited edition Black Fire Ramen is a must try (only available for eating in).
They also offer a takeaway frozen ramen family pack that serves 4 and you can make it yourself at home.
Ordered their signature ramen via Uber eats and both the pork meat and broth was awful. Seasoning was entirely absent, with the noodles themselves tasting of uncooked flour. I don’t think the meal was even finished
The reviews seem to indicate a pretty good standard overall so I find this very surprising.
Our order was obviously rushed out the door and wasn’t checked over properly before going out to the customer.
Hakata Gensuke is one of my favourite ramen restaurants in Melbourne. I love both restaurants of Hakata Gensuke, one is tonkotsu based broth restaurant and another one is chicken based broth restaurant. The taste is authentic Japanese flavour, and the way in ordering is also like Japanese way. There are many people waiting in a queue always, but does really need to wait for a long time to get in. It’s worth to give it a shot!
One of the most amazing ramen places in the city! Get in early as this place garners a long line by 6: 30-7pm.
I recommend getting the signature Tonkotsu, add an extra egg and get some gyoza to side. The gyoza here is the bomb.
One of my favs, strongly recommend coming here.
Quality broth expensive for what you get toppings okay but the ramen egg left alot to be desired. Plenty of other options at better price points but nothing to complain about better then average
The ramen is fabulous! Whatever the texture or soup flavour are all amazing. BUT. We have to wait at least 40mins on Friday night, no one gonna writes down your name or provides the estimated waiting time to you, what you can do is just wait in line. There are only two services staff in the entire restaurant, that's might a reason why we always have to wait so long. Btw no air conditioning inside the restaurant, the customer just quickly finish and leave, won't stay long cuz it's really hot inside.
What a surprise when I discover that my favorite Perth ramen restaurant was also in Melbourne!
My Tonkotsu ramen were excellent as usual and my egg as I love it, the price is affordable and the staff very friendly
I love this place!
Would be nice if they were licensed. Wanted a beer or saki. A bit light on the char siu (pork) on the ramen for standard serve which tempts me to upsize to additional ingredients but that seems a bit expensive. Tasty though.
Great hakata ramen, I'd say one of the top five ramen I've tried. Really yummy food if you can stand to wait for it. Queue is usually required due to the restaurant being really small.
There is always a long queue. Ordered a signature tonkatsu, normal saltiness and noodle texture with an egg. The soup is light and yet full of pork flavour, not salty at all. I personally like more stronger tonkatsu. Noodle is perfectly cooked. However, the $2 boiled egg I ordered is cold. Overall, pretty good bowl of ramen.
Until today, I was happy with Gensuke ramen. Shio tonkotsu that I had today was loaded with too much MSG and I could not finish the soup. Not worth paying $13.50 if you compared to a packet of ラ王 instant ramen.
There usually is a queue at this place with about a half hour wait time but I highly recommend this place. The black garlic broth ramen is especially good. Delicious!
Excellent tonkotsu ramen. Noodles were perfect. The gyoza was good too! Got here about 10 minutes before opening and just made it in without waiting. Expect a line!
We had ramen, kyoza and karaage chicken. I feel the place is overrated. Lack of flavour in the soup. The kyoza was tasteless while the karaage chicken had plenty of fat (quite juicy but not served with mayo). I had better ramen and Japanese food in the CBD in similar price range. The overall experience was disappointing.
Absolutely loved it! Having travelled to Japan I can honestly say this place offers some of the best ramen I have found in Australia.
