A fantastic meal to celebrate a couple of recent birthdays. Delicious food, with a highlight of the deep fried ice cream of course!

I’ve been coming here for years and the older woman who runs it told me I should only come for takeaway as I have a problem when I come in store. I asked them very politely if they could fix a dish that was very over cooked (sweet and sour pork in batter that was that hard it hurt to bite through the burnt batter on it)

I’ve been coming to the store since 2002 or so, obviously she had no care for loyal customers but was so concerned with having to fix a poorly cooked dish she came roaring over all but yelling about how it is always cooked that way in the middle of the store

I have never experienced such rudeness towards me from any one at that shop before but she ruined our dining experience and I doubt we will ever come back to this place again. Such a terrible experience and very poor behaviour from the owner

Offering authentic Chinese food. We were very surprised to see the daily soup (Hong Kong style) serving here at such a surprisingly low price! We ordered deep-fried crispy chicken & ginger beef which we really like.
Must try if you are an Asian food lover!

Returned here to get Specials Fried Rice which was Very Good & a Chicken & Mushroom Soup, Was Delicious. The Staff made feel welcome. Will return in the near future

Must have run out of sambal oelek and oyster sauce …. And garlic and soy sauce and everything else. Ordered the combination sate with their special sate sauce - it wasn’t sate sauce, just smooth peanut butter with a smidge of coconut cream. Also ordered sate skewers - so dry the meat was almost inedible. Tasted like they’d been cooked this morning then zapped in the microwave tonight. Also ordered a combination omelette - also as dry as a witch’s armpit, and the omelette part was just horrid. One of the blandest meals I’ve ever had. Won’t be visiting ever again.

Great old style Chinese restaurant. The service was friendly and very accomodating. Highly recommend for your Ballarat Chinese fix!

The staff here are so incredibly friendly and welcoming. The decor is great which altogether made the experience of dining in really enjoyable. The food was hit and miss though. The tofu and veggies were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious, but the chicken curry was flavourless and not fresh and the starters were just okay. Overall it was a good dining experience, which was for sure made better by the staff

The Golden Crown serves up a hearty slice of nostalgic comfort. The food is unchanged and it's perfect. Re-live the classic Chinese restaurant vibes of your childhood and pay this place a visit - and try the Cantonese fillet steak! Yum

Our group of 8 adults and 3 kids arrived at 6pm, ordered at 6: 30, got some starters at 7 and some at 7: 15. Was told one of the starters had run out as they had given the last one to a takeaway order (did not offer any replacement).

Watched other guests, come and go, ordering and getting served before us. Was told the meals were on the way.

Got to 8pm, and we were out. Couldn't wait any longer, so we paid for our drinks only and will not be back.

This place did the same to us 2 years ago, and they obviously don't give a stuff about the dine in customers. Take away are their priority.

I think this place will be either a hit or a miss for people as we had a very different experience to all the positive reviews. We waited a really long time for the food. The food was really salty - combined with the fact that we could not easily get refills for the tea and when we did, the water was cold. It was not great.
Ignoring the fact that it was really salty, the food was okay.
The wait staff was really polite but again they were understaffed so the service still wasn't great.

If anyone wants to try this place, I'd recommend they come off-peak so the wait isn't that long. Also if you're sensitive to salt, tell them to make it less salty. If you're used to more traditional/authentic Chinese food, I'd recommend you skip this restaurant altogether.

One good thing: their fried rice was alright.
We spent quite a lot of money there but was very disappointed.

I love the place and have been coming for years but your staff are very poorly trained. Please ensure your staff learn to observe customers and clear tables properly. It's always poorly staffed with low/unskilled people. Clear the tables before you load it with food is a regular problem.

Great Authentic Chinese dishes, carrying a reminiscent flavour that reminds me of my Childhood. We ordered pork soup, steamed fish fillet, salt and paper port rip, iron plate beef, pork fried noodles and lettuce - all of the dishes are tender, flavourful and delicious would recommend!

I disagree with the review claiming this place was worth the cost. The portions were really small and worked out to be at least $35 per person. The food was on the saltier side and the manager defended it by saying that we should have requested less salt since usual caucasian customers prefer saltier foods. Moreover, there were bits of food that were not hot when served which most likely means it was microwaved just before it was served. I think the food would have tasted really good if it wasn't for the overbearing level of salt. Additionally, when our tea was refilled, they used cold water? Which I have to say was a first for me. The Jasmine tea was not amazing - I recommend getting a soft drink instead. The wait times were extremely long - about 45mins between us ordering the food and receiving it. However, on the positive side I think the waiters did great with what they were given and were really nice. They also had a Chinese menu which was a plus.

Loved the glass walls slightly protruding out but the food could be improved — not the curry noodles I was expecting. And could do with less salt overall. The scallops were impressive nonetheless.

Amazing food, slightly slow service time although were fairly busy, but the food was worth the wait. Amazing owner with an experienced chef

This place is literally just want to rob you. Charging $2 for chilly which they never add and then keep changing their price if you question about their sur charge. It’s pathetic and never gonna come back to such people who just lie in the name of service

Disappointing 2nd visit. Arrived at 6. Got entrees then waited 1 1/2 hours for our mains. Watching people come in, get their meals and leave. Had to ask them for our mains again obviously forgot us. And it was not busy at all.

Delicious! Grew up having Chinese from here as a child and almost 30 years later have returned with my children to eat! Amazing and delicious!
