Geonbae Korean BBQ Restaurant

’m sorry but this was beyond disappointing. Payed $12.90 for a salad that was as made up of genuinely just lettuce and missing the bok choi. All of the food lacked flavour. Payed $45 pp for ONE mushroom cut in half, a chunk of onion, few pieces of low quality chicken and beef, stale tasting deep fried dumplings and a rice dish that tasted purely of sesame oil. Staff seemed to be clueless and not properly trained (apart from lovely lady behind the bar). Pineapple juice was also rancid and sent back. Very very poor experience. Not worth the price point at all and will not be returning. Both my partner and I feel quite unwell from the oily food.

We didn't know what to expect as we've not been to Korean BBQ before, but the website said they cater to newbies and would help us out. We mentioned as we sat down that we didn't know what we were doing. They offered very little assistance and when we started eating our dry meat and boiled rice we asked if there was any kind of dipping sauce and the server replied that he didn't know and has never eaten either of the things we had ordered. Apparently we probably needed to order sides.
I had a beer paddle and my husband ordered a cocktail. Halfway through he felt a little tipsy and couldn't finish it, this is the only time we looked at the bottle of Soju in his drink and realised it was 13% and 3.79 standard drinks in one drink! It's a bit irresponsible to serve newcomers such a high ABV drink with no prior warning of its strength I would've thought.
I might try again with sides to see if there is more flavour and moisture to the meal but I'm not racing back there to uninterested servers who barely speak to you and haven't eaten the food.

Better to eat korean in cbd anytime. Waitress tried to serve uncooked pork and complained it was cook. Sorry i dont want tapeworms.

Other than that second waitress was good. And food cooked well tastes much better.

Good for a quick bibimbap. Korean Fried Chicken is excellent. BBQ at the table stuff is average.

The best Korean fried chicken around, no one compares. The staff are amazing, ing and so polite.

Decent food, but compared to other Korean establishments, servings were small. They were stingy on the sides too.asked for extra kimchi, but it never arrived.

We feel that this restaurant is extremely understaffed. Only 3 employees performing the duty of cash register and waiting staff for 50 or 60 customers. We had reservation for 7.30pm for 90min seating time. It is now 8.55 and our main has not arrived yet. We really feel for the hard working employees. Management or owners need to hire more employees. They would have known how busy it was going to be through the bookings and reservations made.

2 starts for service, the food however better look elsewhere. Poor quality and options. Had the BBQ set for 2 and the vegetables wasn't the best, some meats look brown/not fresh.

Food was plentiful and so good, waitresses cont fault in any way. A really good eating experience. Fried chicken was cooked to perfection. Highly recommended without hesitation

Clean and nice atmosphere with outdoor and indoor dining options. Located ground floor of Southeast Water Building. Ample parking. Quite a few set menu options and wide selections of wine and cocktails. Average serving sizes. Nothing special in their menu. Food tastes average (not the best but not the worst). Their fried chicken was so dry even with sauce (one of the worst Korean chicken we had). Their service is quite annoying and rude… staff will not leave you alone (keeps on flipping or minding our BBQ) despite letting them know were good and don’t need anything. We’re still eating but they asked us if we want takeaway container while subsequently grabbing one of our meal. We were their about 40 mins less 20 mins waiting for food and the time cooking bbq and it wasn’t busy (only 4 tables were occupied). I bet we were not there long enough to push us away. Not coming back and will not recommend to friends and family unless service is upgraded.

We have been here several times of the last few yeats, ever been disappointed, friendly and timely service and great food.

Australian don’t what’s real Korean food, this restaurant cooking is very bad and unprofessional, if this restaurant in the Carnegie, this restaurant close soon.

Had a work do here and they told us we had to have a set menu. Food was average in comparison to most other Korean BBQ's around town. Bill was very steep in comparison to what we had to eat. Not great, but not rubbish either.

Very good food and customer service. Joy served me and my friends. What a lovely girl. We all had a excellent time.

Meat is really good and you get what you pay for, but side dishes are average and not accurately priced for the flavour you get. You can't even order Kimchi on the side?
We opted to cook our own meat as we are experienced with Korean BBQ's and the staff were constantly walking past and staring at us and how we were cooking, which made us feel really awkward and uncomfortable

The worst customer service.
Found out 30min later that our order didn't go through, but the waitress didn't even realise that our order didn't go through until we asked her when our food will be ready and the place wasn't even busy at all. Had to wait for another 25min to get the food and the food wasn't even good.

I can strongly recommend any of the banquet options, you get a good selection of a variety of Korean dishes as appetizers. The main event that is the bbq at the table of your favoured dishes. I like the chicken and beef. I went the spicey option but it wasn't hot enough for my tastebuds. The service was great and our waiter/chef did a great job.

My first time to Geonbae Korean BBQ in Frankston. The staff were friendly and the service was great! The food was fresh, delicious and ample. We definatley didn't leave feeling hungry. We sat out on the deck by the river watching the sunset, devine! I will definatley be recommending this restaurant to my friends.

First experience with Korean food and I'm in love. The sets are amazing. The beef bulgogi, spice pork and Kim chi pancakes are my top pics! My only issue is the lunch bento boxes are a bit pricey otherwise I'll get them all the time at work for lunch:)

Is it great? Yes! But.my only problem is the portion size is so small it doesn't matter how much you spend you still leave hungry and end up doing a McDonald's run before you get home. I've been here twice and each time left hungry. I got a banquet the second time I visited and still very hungry after I left, that was the same with my husband and children. We love Korean and the Korean BBQ experience but we don't love the small portions that get served. If your a big eater than this place is not for you.
