Gemma Simply Italian reviews
71Deliciously moist pizzas. Pastas very good. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Old school feel. Recommended.
Happening little pizza pasta restaurant just around the corner from Lygon St.
Excellent service from the waiters, prompt delivery of orders. Excellent, can't find anything but praise and compliments. Well done.
Friendly and hospitable! We booked last minute for a group of 19 people and Kern and the team were nothing but accomodating. The food was delicious, the service was timely and the food was in abundance! We had one celiac and all measures were taken to ensure she was looked after. Appreciate it, we will definitely be back and highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxed, classic Italian meal!
The food was yummy and the staff were great and friendly. Shakira was so helpful and caring, thanks
Ben who served us all night was amazing! His knowledge of the wines and the menu was just so fresh to see. His advice on the chilli oil was definitely what we needed. The entrees were amazing however we found the pastas lacking a little, huge serves but at least with the chilli oil it was better.
We held a surprise birthday for a friend of ours at Gemma. We were all impressed by the quality of ingredients used for their pizzas and pastas! Absolutely delicious! The staff were all great in helping us pull off this surprise for our friend! Also- a special shout out for their house-made chilli oil. We will come again for sure
Not raving about the food, it was ok.the waiter was a friendly fellow tho and the ambience quite pleasant.
What a hidden gem hidden here fantastic pastas and pizzas and fabulous service. Great food at very reasonable prices.
Gnocchi was bland, not much meat in the ragu version. Really average tasting food for the price. Just use Grand Italian gnocchi from Woolworths and make it at home, tastes much better.
Had a wonderful experience at Gemma’s, food and wine was delicious and very well paired by our waiter Ben who was so friendly and knowledgeable, would happy recommended to anyone.
Always great service at Gemma’s with really friendly staff. Food is delicious; in particular the pizza’s are a personal favourite! Really nice and cosy atmosphere, perfect for date night or bigger groups. Highly recommend!
What an amazing find! Their thin crust pizzas are just incredible! Since DOC dropped their quality standards, I found the next great gem! $15 pizzas on Wednesdays, but even on any other day, their prices are more than reasonable.
Hands down, one of the best pizzas in Melbourne. Its incredible how they stood out in a very competitive and overcrowded market. We had the pizza calabrese and porcini among others that were bursting with flavours. The staff was super friendly, warm and welcoming. The ambience is perfect for friends and family.
Overall, I rate this place 10/10
Gemma's is so delicious and delightful! Had my birthday dinner here on Monday (open Mondays huzzah!) And the staff were so very welcoming and engaged and friendly, management kind and relaxed, food extremely delicious and well timed, every dish wonderful, lots of space and time and energy to make us feel at home. All the stars for Gemma!
We went to the restaurant for a birthday celebration on a Sunday night with prior reservation. Waited HALF AN HOUR TO JUST ORDER, AN HOUR for the food to come out - blamed by the middle aged lady staff that we did not tell them we were sharing - saying they could bring out the food. Not sure why we were BLAMED for the delay in food serving, with no explanation nor apology about it. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Staff also took our photo without our consent (we thought its one of our phone), managed to ruin the cake surprise since they gave small plates before the cake. The food - nothing special. Just ordinary. Staff service and communication can be better. Look, we understand staff shortages but it really got to us when we were blamed that the food was late because of us.
VERY Disappointing service, it's fine when my friends and I waited for an hour for food. We understand that the restaurant is very busy but what threw me off is the fact that THIS LADY HAS THE AUDACITY to blame us, made us feel like it's our fault that the food came out late even though we were understanding and patiently waited for the food from 8pm to 9pm. They even took our photo without our consent, we tried to ask them to delete it, SHE SAID "ITS FOR THE RESTAURANT", we had to CONVINCE them to delete the photo which should've been common sense to them.
The rest of the waiters have been pleasant and sweet except her, apologising on the woman's behalf.
Food is alright, slightly overpriced considering the attitude we got.
The people who work here are some of the nicest people in hospitality. They make the best fresh gnocchi you could imagine, and the seafood spaghetti is brilliant- one of our favourite Italian eateries with real Italian flavour, passion and care. Great to eat in but also the food travels well for take away. Overall fantastic value and great food and service all round. Will continue to keep coming back.
We had a vegan pizza with a green salad to share. The meals were of a great size to share, service was fast and meals delivered promptly.
Cosy environment. Lovely staff and friendly. The pizzas are perfectly Woodfired. Gluten free Gnoochi very light and great sauces. I had the pear and Gorgonzola. Umm
The wood-fired pizzas and garlic foccacia are delicious but their table service even though friendly could be better. We had a dinner booking on a very hot day and was hoping to be seated indoors. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were informed that we will be seating outdoors without any fans because the floors were being mopped. At the end of the meal, we also had to wait almost 10 minutes just to pay the bill because there were no staff at the counter. We did still enjoy our meals and would love to return for takeaways but perhaps not dining in at this stage.
