On holiday from Sydney. My partner and I were recommended the food here by a friend who just moved to Melbourne. The food was amazing, perfect portions and flavours were excellent.
The reason for the 2 stars which left a huge bad taste in our mouth is when we asked for the bill. The server with a lack of hairline, stood over my partner as he was paying the bill to check if he was getting a tip, after my partner pressed “no tip” the server stated “oh so you didn’t have a good time? ” His attitude changed massively, to dismissive and rude.

It was such a massive shame cause the meal was honestly amazing and you can really tell the chefs love what they do.

Great place for late night dinner. Highlight would be entrees, steaks and desserts. Could not fault the staff with great knowledge of the menu, wine list but the atmosphere was a little loud.

Duck leg was cooked to perfection. Amazing choice of wines. Warm and welcoming service. Will come again. Thanks.

The entire experienced was rushed. The restaurant was over busy. It was our wedding anniversary so was not great. Food dishes not great, Escargot had a bitter taste nothing like we have experiences elsewhere including in Paris. Crepes soggy, wierd textured, microwaved.terrible. Out of 6 main dishes only the duck was enjoyable. Won't be back

Classic French fair done to perfection. Extraordinary attention to the freshness and quality of ingredients. Cannot recommend enough!

Very good French food! Reminded me France a lot. Service was attentive and the atmosphere was pretty comfortable especially for a Monday night!

This is my second time here and still even more satisfied that I have to write a review.

I’m very impressed with food and service. The staffs are very lovely. I’ve got to say that their ‘Demi-caneton rôti, à l’orange’ is one of the best dishes in my life so far. The duck was so perfectly cooked, the sauce was pleasant and overall tastes and scents were beautiful. With a glass of wine is just like.

And also, other dishes were very tasty as well. We had escargots, mussels, steak tartare, a quail with truffle sauce, boeuf bourguignon and cuisse de canard gras confite. The chefs has done an amazing job.

Even though we had a quick meal during lunchtime and dinner (4-5.30pm) because I have to catch up my work, but it was such a joyful quality time. Definitely come again and will take more friends.

If someone is still deciding, I would say don’t hesitate to come and try.

Recommended a table next to window or outdoor with natural sunlight for taking photos haha.

Ps. Last time I had a scotch fillet steak with red wine sauce, also. 10/10

Was looking forward to a genuine French crepes suzette but it was a let down, wasn't flambé, at least not table side and I couldn't taste any Grand Marnier. Rest of the food was really nice. Service and atmosphere seemed to be a bit chaotic.

I’d have to say this is hands down the best of the best French restaurants in Melbourne. The food is mind blowingly amazing. The team here always make you feel special and all seem to have such a warm and welcoming demeanour, while also consistently recommending the tastiest wine selections. While it can be hard to get a table here it’s not hard to see why. Parisian Style French at its very best.

This place has got something that is really difficult to achieve.authenticity. It is like escaping Melbourne for a few hours and stepping in to the amazing world of french food. The tastes are amazing. The venue is rather small, but the vibe is great. Down to earth, genuine and delicious. No hoyty toyty just great food.
For me it's the best restaurant in Melbourne, all categories.

This place has a very lively atmosphere and the food is decent but the staff can be sleazy and a bit rude. Demanding a tip when the markups on the food are already very pricey. I’ve been here probably five times and each time keep thinking- I don’t know if I want to continue giving this establishment money. After the most recent time it will be a long time before I choose to return, if ever, again. We were inviting some friends for dinner (4 of us in total). We had two bottles of wine, entres, mains, sides and desserts. The food was good. Perfectly cooked steaks and very flavoursome dishes. I will say that the staff always make me feel uncomfortable, up-selling at every opportunity. This most recent time I was actually left shocked. The bill came to $630 which we were happy to pay but the waiter came to us with the card machine and said “should I just bump it up to an even $700? ” My partner protested- and was then belittled by the waiter who said “well you have to pay me for the good service I provided you. ” This isn’t America and staff should be paid well. If this isn’t the case you should take this up with Fair Work not us. We always tip when the service and food are good but the audacity and lack of shame from this man who also told us that “everyone tips at least 10% just not you” while giving us a dirty look. We ended leaving a tip but collectively decided we would probably never return and we are locals. Plenty of other wonderful French restaurants in the area with equally good food and much more welcoming and professional service.

I’ve never posted a review before however the experience we had at France Soir hasn’t left me. The service was pushy and rude and after leaving a tip the waiters kept whispering in my ear that they weren’t happy with the tip. It was horribly unpleasant and a terrible night and I very much regret going there. There are plenty of better options on Toorak Rd where the service and food are impeccable, such as Da Noi. Don’t waste your time here.

Absolutely delicious! Highly recommend the escargot, I could have easily had 10 plates! All the food was really well cooked and full of flavour!

You would think you were in France! Eye fillet was amazing, creme brulee delish! Great experience! A definite must!

It's my favourite restaurant in South Yarra. It can be too crowded at times, but that's only because of how good the food is.

Have been going to France-Soir since 1987. The service today was bad, slow, with us having ask twice for a dessert, three times to get our wine opened & waited an hour for our entrees. The main course (Duck L'Orange) ; Duck leg was grossly over salted, when I told the waiter he proceeded to tell me how they cooked it! I responded and told him there is no point giving me an explanation as I know how this should be cooked.
Not happy the Restaurant has gone backwards in both quality and service, such a shame.

You can see why this place has been open for as long as it has. Impeccable food. Great staff. Awesome menu. Sensational wine list.

Id like to start out with the lack of room throughout the Resturant and the rude ethnic of the staff, I felt as if I did not have the time to thoroughly go through the menu nor the guidance of recommendations with the menu. I was thrown the menu excepted to self guide myself through a menu in a whole different language and when ordering I felt rushed and not respected enough to be able to thoroughly enjoy my choices. All the waiters were fast paced and rushed. If the capacity of the Resturant is too much to handle then lower it. For quality over quantity!

Best steak ever. I highly recommend this place. Thank you to my lovely grandson who took me there.
