Fonda Mexican

Had to check in as to where my dinner was, after one hour I received it without an explanation as to why then the $4 extra guac I paid for was not even provided with the meal, overall not a good experience and staff didn't seem too interested at all.

Amazing ambience.
Below average food.
Order burrito bowl- Came with no salsa/sour cream/ Jalapeño or even Guacamole. For the just kept a whole avo there. The taste was pretty average too specially for the price.
Would anyday go to Taco Bell/ Guzman/ Zambrero for Mexican and def never visiting Fonda again.

Food was a huge disappointment.
The staff was friendly though.

I like Fonda - you know what you are getting but the restaurant in Hawthorn is outstanding compared to the others because of the staff. Exceptional service. Claire is a standout - thank you! Back next week for more margs!

For some reason I was expecting more delicious food. It is ok though, shared some quesadillas and other tapas with friends. The ambiance is nice.

Charlotte and Lara were beautiful hostesses and helped us with amazing customer service! They charged our phones and helped us order! Great food and even better staff ️️

Really wanted to try Fonda as I'd heard good things. Unfortunately my order didn't arrive after 1 hour and I had to ask for a refund. The staff said the burritos were taking longer to make.but I had seen customers come and go during that hour also ordering the burritos and getting their food.
Hopefully I was just unlucky and other people won't have this experience.

What can I say, when all the festivities of Glenferrie Road were a bit much, Fonda's delightful outdoor area was a great place to rest up with some chips, quesadillas and churros.

I wish you could swap caramel dip with white chocolate for the churros, but other than that it was perfect.

Just ordered house nachos for lunch, drove through lunch hour traffic from work to go pick it up. Was extremely disappointed to find that the nachos had no guac, no sour cream, no Pico De gallo and no cheese.

Just dry nachos with dry chicken and pickled jalapenos.

We had to buy sauces from la Cabra which is closer. (In the picture)

Went with a friend and we were able to share different dishes. The food is amazing. Had the beef nachos and rhe beef just falls apart and is totally divine in taste. Also had prawn tacos corn on the cob and the delightful churios. Yum yum all the way

Best Quesadillas. Must try. If you vegetarian try Mushroom one

This is one of my go-to places when confused. Always a safe bet with extremely filling portions of Nachos and their cocktails are so unique!

Big Avoid and won’t be returning.

Totally unfriendly welcome on arrival. I ordered nachos and a lemonade, the lemonade sat on the bar bench for 10 mins, made worse by having a empty restaurant, so in the end decided to get myself. I then needed to take my daughter to the bathroom, so left our swim bag at the table and on retuning literally within 2 mins the waiter had cleared the table including the half eaten nachos. So quick to clear your table to get you out but happy to let you wait for your food and drink. Will I return? Not to this Fonda!

Fonda used to be some of the best Mexican around. The food was fresh and tasty and the atmosphere was very trendy. However, it's dropped off in recent years. Many of the service staff are surly and the quality of the food is not what it used to be.after my most recent experience I don't think I'll be returning again.

Usually it's great. But do not bother going on a public holiday. A number of times we've done this and regretted it, never again. 15% surcharge for a substandard version of the usually good portions and quality. We paid $10.35 for this measly box of chips which was barely half filled. Insulting. And the sweetcorn in bimbap was cheap and nasty too and not the usual standard. Pull up your public holiday standards Fonda, just like you do with public holiday pricing.

Lovely atmosphere and fit out but there were a few things that missed the mark.
1) order a chicken salad with extra chicken and I got about 60grams in the end (about the size of my thumb). Naturally I enquired as to the portion sizes and the wait staff told me they had run out of chicken. VERY CHEEKY of the cook to try and get away with this - it should never have left the pass. They did rectify this but the point is it could have been avoided altogether.
2) They don't accept cash, instead you need to order by phone. This is fine but the process of ordering can be unintuitive to some. It also asks as a minimum for your phone number and also your email (lucky you can opt out of that). This is a deal breaker for me so probably won't come back. I'm just here to order a meal not give up personal info
3) The service. My interactions with the wait staff varied. Mostly good but one was a little unprofessional. I enquired about paying with cash and I remarked "don't you accept this as legal tender? " To which she replied "what's that? " And then said "I'll get my manager".
It wasn't what she said but how she said it that came off as a little passive aggressive - almost as if I was being an inconvenience.

If you can get past the ordering process and the mining of your personal info, then you'll like this place.
The food is OK and so is the service. There's certainly room for improvement here.

Fonda is an excellent place to enjoy simple, staple Mexican foods such as Burritos, Tacos ect, but with some different falvours compared to other competitors.

Can't reccomended it enough.

I don’t understand how Fonda gets so many comments like “it’s a bit expensive” because Fonda isn’t McDonald’s - it’s quality food with really good ingredients. If you’re after trashy, cheap Mexican style food that will leave you feeling gross, then Fonda isn’t for you.

I love Fonda - it’s my go-to for lazy takeaway dinners, working lunches and catch-ups with friends. Great variety of options and the salads are fantastic. I am not a salad gal, but boy, the chicken salad makes me actually enjoy eating my greens. Online ordering makes things super easy (no issue with splitting bills). The staff look happy and like they enjoy their job, which is always a good sign. I love a place where I can eat a burrito but not feel like trash afterwards because I’ve eaten good, fresh ingredients.

Won’t be coming back.over priced for what it was and the portions were so small. $8 for just one taco……
Not recommended fish taco, the fish is cold.just wasted my money
