El Gordo Bendigo reviews
67Everything was amazing- the vibe, colourful decor, coffee was devine, breakfast was delicious and well priced. Good sized servings. Our waiter Mark was fantastic from the moment we arrived until we left! Delicious food, friendly and knowledgeable staff, thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Highly recommend- we will be back!
The atmosphere in their laneway was charming, the service was friendly, attentive and helpful, extensive Gin selection [even a non-alcoholic which was perfect for one of us! ] and the food was amazing. We had such a wonderful evening by the time we were done we realised we were the last ones there, but the staff didn't seem to mind or let on so we chatted to the owner to thank them for the evening!
Had their Special Barramundi dish and the Octopus Main. It was Sssooo Delicious. We go to Movida in Melbourne often and the food at El Gordo is on par.
Service is extremely good also.
Such a nice place for a relaxing dinner in the lane ways.
After trying to get a place to sit were lucky to find a place at El Gordo and weren’t disappointed.
The staff was lovely, pork bikinis were amazing and so was the amazing espresso martini.
The duck was succulent, the tuna steak was basic and this giving a 4 star
Good for a quick coffee and a bite to eat. We enjoyed our cuppa and the tortilla, good, friendly service too:)
Great place for a coffee and a snack, stopped here briefly on a cold winter's day, the heaters were a welcome addition to our day.
A must visit on a trip the Bendigo for coffee, brekky or lunch. Set in Bendigo’s funky Melbourne style laneway, this Spanish style eatery is a great spot for brekky or light lunch. Tapas, sandwiches and other delights and lover rated the coffee as one of the best in Bendigo - high praise indeed.
Friendly service, great food, and an extensive list of gins to choose from in a fabulous trendy laneway setting.
Went here very recently for coffee and cake and had a really nice time. Carrot cake was yummy, lovely coffee and the service was what felt genuinely sweet and caring. Highly recommend as the location is great, inside the lane way with so much character and little treasures!
El Gordo is the heart of Chancery Lane, being one of the few hidden gems within Bendigo. Unfortunately the takeaway coffee side of things is quite sloppy, as it forces customers to wait around in tight alleyway amongst those who are sitting in. Prices are also incredibly high, for example a small soy latte is $5.
Best coffee in Bendigo, friendly staff and great food. Will always head here when I'm in Bendigo
Fantastic little Cafe and bar tucked away in Chancery Lane. Really great spot to great a coffee and food. Food was all great and enjoyed the variety of the tapas.
El gordo within the simplicity of itself, has found a sense of purity.
It has simplicity in its flavor, using only few ingredients, with each one having freedom to stand out to its fullest. Through ingenious combinations of fresh ingredients, each ingredient plays into each other.
For example seared yellow fin tuna, on the outside black sesame seeds giving the feeling of a charcoal finish. They play like a reminder to keep chewing, each sesame seed bit into adds a deepness to the flavor and with each chew of the tuna, the more flavour is released, finding balance by pulling equally to the extreme.
Incredibly nutritional the tapas are more akin to how a full meal would be in spain
Small plates delivered to you with a selection of food almost like when topping your plate up at a family feast
With each bit being a celebration of Spanish culture

The cheapest get away I've had
I've been dropping in regularly for at least four years, I've consumed many cups of coffee, and each one has been somewhere between delicious and exceptional.
Their menu is Mediterranean in style, and I'm proud to say my loyalty is due to their high level of experience in their hospitality industry. I've never had a mediocre meal and never has anyone of my guests. I occasionally dream of that one time Chad served pan-fried gnocchi as I thought no food could ever taste that good.
What a gem in a Bendigo laneway! Stumbled onto this great dining option by chance on a Saturday night on our road trip home to Sydney. Excellent tapas in a great setting with truly passionate service. Had the cauliflower and cheese croquettes followed by Tassie Spring Bay mussels cooked in garlic and Serrano ham - a treat. This was completed with Wagyu beef ribs with cous cous and goats cheese. A nice Spanish rosado and Holm Oak pinot noir accompanied a truly serendipitous dinner.
Great service and food. Relaxed feel. Great coffee. The menu has a really authentic Spanish feel. The chickpeas were amazing. Asked for the recipe. The staff were all really nice. And it was a beautiful day!
We both had the field mushroom with pistachio and goats cheese - beautifully presented! Hands up to the chefs!
We walked passed and we decided to have lunch here. Love their mini dishes and cosy environment. Slightly pricy but food was delicious.
Bravo! Have found a beaut little lane way traditional Spanish Cafe that serves the dang best Jamon and coffee.
The food was amazing, absolutely loved the Spanish style and influences in the Tapas menu. Great service and friendly staff. Officially addicted to the Panna Cotta and chocolate mousse desserts. Should have gone another round.next time
