El Gordo Bendigo reviews
67Friendly staff, great service. This gorgeous little hole in the wall is certainly worth a visit. Try some of their delicious goodies on offer. The seating along the lane way is really fun with all the bright, colourful street art.
Greatest place we have been for a few years.
Found this place by accident.
If you get the chance get a table in the lane way.
Not sure what to say.
Food, excellent
Service, knowledgeable
Venue, quirky.
Everything was great. 10/10.
Might not suit everyone, but if you are relaxed and have time to enjoy a night, good food and great stories then this is for you.
Beer, brilliant
Order a tapes or two (Ceviche is a must) then relax
Cocktails, unheard-of but amazing.
It's more true Barcelona/Catalonia experience.
Food, the owner was the chef but now working on the floor but damm the girl can cook. A+
He walks around chatting, get a chair, well worth the story, has a passion for the food and drink. Didn't have a gin but will next time.
If you have ever followed me then sit down, enjoy and relax.
El Gordo is definitely as MUST-GO for lunch or dinner when visiting Bendigo.
Lots of food variety to choose. They also have nice beverage selections.
We had lunch here and the atmosphere and the food is just beautiful.
The food especially the bread tasted very fresh.
Staff were also lovely and attentive.
Would definitely be back when we come to visit Bendigo again ️
Food were rubbish, too salty and taste like from weeks ago (they just reheated it). Sauce with a bit slimy. Won't recommend this place, very expensive$$$. Go elsewhere!
Fabulous restaurant, the food was delicious, service was personable and friendly without being over the top. Can thoroughly recommend the Bloody Mary cocktails, and the Sangria. Great dining experience, thanks guys!
Day trip out to Bendigo and lunch @ElGordoBendigo
Slow braised duck leg, sticky spiced orange sauce, beetroot, roquette, goats curd, candied walnuts & radish ensalada
Lots of juicy delicious duck pieces are present, I love the hard flavour of the thin Manchego cheese slices which act like a seasoning, the freshness of the salad, fruitiness of the dressing, and crunch of walnuts.
Churros, can't leave without the famous Spanish dessert and it didn't disappoint. Nice and crunchy doughnuts, smattering of cinnamon sugar and the delectable chocolate sauce is excellent.
Also needed something to sustain me on the train trip back to Melbourne and got the croquettes which were yum.

The baby zucchini dish is the best thing on the menu. Staff were friendly and helpful. But overall this place is overpriced, with small portions of food. It's something that you'd take a date to impress with, or to celebrate a special occasion. Otherwise it's a bit of a tourist trap.
Had a lunch there yesterday. Croquettes were very tasty, a small portion but very tasty. Iced coffee was good. We had deep fried small potatoe cubes that were very salty, ate maybe half, could not eat more.salmon that was not cooked, left it on the plate, and meat balls that had hard chunks in it, also left it on the plate, didn't wait for the Portuguese tarts. When I went to pay, the waitress asked how was the food. I said that it wasn't my type of food and that the the salmon was not cooked, overall not happy. She said something like "ahhh", charged me and walked away. She didn't even check the salmon. Not happy with the experience. It's a one place in Bendigo that will not see me again.
Great little Spanish restaurant in middle of Bendigo CBD. Fairly authentic with great food. Pity they do not open for dinner. Must visit if craving for Spanish food!
Cute and cozy little coffee spot with nice Spanish food, perfect for a lazy weekend. The duck salad was a wonderful recommendation by the wait staff. The cold drip was prepared well, refreshing and came with a small palate cleanser. Great place to bring a date!
Nom nom nom! We found this delight by chance, grabbed a table and proceeded to order the entire tapas listing. It was delicious!
Our waiter was attentive and quite energetic, adding to the ambience.
My only change - add something that families can easily order for the kids
The staff was really friendly. However, the food was average and a bit overpriced considering the size of the portions.
Still putting out great meals and great coffee, these guys work hard to make a memorable experience for all their customers.
The tapas were absolutely delicious! We had the croquettas, ceviche, Escabeche de cangrejo y mejillones and the Portuguese tarts which was enough for 2 people. They also had an amazing selection of drinks, especially gin. Would highly recommend the place
I was in Bendigo from Melbourne and visited El Gordo a couple of weeks ago. We were made to feel very welcomed by the friendly maitre de and our waiter was just as friendly and attentive through our stay. He recommended a refreshing gin from their extensive drinks menu (If you love gin, this is the place for you!) The food was delicious and the ambience of El Gordo is warm and fun. The staff here really know what they are doing and really seem to be enjoying themselves as they work. I'm looking forward to returning on my next trip Bendigo.
The food was fabulous. The service was warm, friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere. Very good value - worth a trip up from Melbourne.
Tucked away in a small laneway, cute and comfortable. Very tasty toasties, great coffee and chai. Most excellent and friendly service.
Great meal. Thus really is one of the best Dinning experiences in Bendigo. Chad and the team deliver well executed Spanish inspired dishes in a side lane oasis reminiscent of Europe. Only disappointment is they are closed evenings.
Great place, good selection of food and drinks.
I was greeted by a staff member when walking through the laneway, thats why I stopped and had a bite to eat. Great customer service and awareness.
Amazing food and wonderful service! Went here for my birthday and will definitely come again! 10/10
