El Churro Cafe reviews
55 Overpriced and poor quality. $10.50 for a small quantity with chocolate sauce.
I’m not returning
La desilusión: this place is a disappointment. By name, this place specialises in hot drinks and churros. You can fork out $27 for a share plate of 9 overcooked churros, served with a choice of pasty, overly sugared, cold 'sauces' at $2.50 each extra. 'Caliente' means hot, but not here. The biggest disappointment however is the rest of the menu. A tapas plate of meats ($14) consists of 2 small slices of sausage, two small cubes of ham, half a dozen Carr's water crackers and a side of marmalade. The croquetas plate, for a similar price, is made up of 2 of the smallest croquetas in Melbourne, frozen in the centre, with a couple of cubes of cheese. Yes, tapas are small (a 'lid' for your drink), but unlike pintxos, tapas are meant to be shared. The price, quality and quantity of this offering disappoints a proud tradition. Post-pandemic eating out in Melbourne has become very expensive, and it is hard to find good value. If you want quality and affordable 'tapas y bebidas', it is probably worth the current airfares back to Spain. On the upside, the atmosphere is good when it is not too busy.
Delicious food and friendly staff! We don't get to have it often but when we do, it's always a treat!
The best Spanish Hot Chocolate and Churros in Hawthorn area. The best place to hangout after lunch or dinner with the family. Very attentive, quick service, polite and friendly staffs. Never let us down with the foods etc. 10 stars
The quality of their coffee is amazing!
The well roasted beans goes really well with a nut milk, which makes it an aromatic almond cappuccino.
The churros combo is a great deal for the coffee too️
Whenever I am around glenferrie this is my coffee place!
Good coffee, a little on the expensive side though. Was charged $5.80 for a small latte with syrup.
Cheese board was of one type of cheese and supermarket crackers. And traces of pickles.
The only good thing was a generous wine serve.
Churros were okay, sauces should be a given and not cost additional.
The Oreo shake I ordered was extremely a scam, 9$ for the same volume of a can drink. I can order 16 churros and 8 sauce packets from GYG at the same price of buying 10 from El Churro and no sauce.
Popped in for a chai latte and some churros on a cold afternoon in Melbourne. Wonderful space and friendly welcoming staff. Good place to catch up with friends.
Love their hot chocolates and paellas. They have huge variety of vegetarian food as well which is not available in any restaurant nearby. Churros are amazing and so crisply, perfect all the time.
Fresh and crunchy churros, sadly coffee was pretty poor quality and small dipping sauces. We wouldn’t go back.
Rated low on uber eats because the chocolate sauce was too hard to dip the churros in but the quality of the churros itself was pretty good and not greasy. I would recommend!
Pollo de churruzo is ok. It wasn't that great. Had a great expectation. Estrella beer was good though. Service was good.
Do not eat here. Service was slow. I ordered nachos and they were a pile of chips on a plate with a tablespoon of sour cream and the salsa was likewise about a table spoon. Got charged extra for more ‘salsa’ (i.e. Coarsely chopped avocado, onion and tomato with no other flavouring).
The best part was I left with a stomach ache which kept me up most of the night.
Great place, the service was friendly and fast and the churros are fantastic!
The seating at the front offers a great way to relax and watch the world go by.
I highly recommend to go here, it's great value for money!
Mouth watering hot cinnamon churros right in the heart of Hawthorn. Offering decadent hot beverages that go perfectly with the sugared treat. Definitely worth stopping by to sate any sweet tooth, a perfect way to start or end any day.
My friend and I went for happy hour and dinner, We had never been to this cafe before and we liked the look of it with its simplicity and rustic vibe. We took a table and the waitress came over and cleared/cleaned it for us-all good so far. Unfortunately, we did not see the sign in the very right hand corner of the counter against the wall which, unless you actually knew was there was not in direct line of sight. So we sat at the table and waited-and waited. We took a couple of selfies, and still waited. My friend then went up to the counter to ask why everyone else was being served and we were then told we had to order at the counter. That is all well and good, but the waitress said nothing to us at all when she came to our table-not one word. Where we were sitting their was another couple to my right side further blocking any potential view of 'The Sign'. The waitress did not apologise for not alerting us to the proper ordering procedure and just seid something to the effect of 'well you have to order here'. Then the couple next to us who appeared to be regulars made snide comments about us not seeing 'The Sign". That was the last straw. I commented that this was unacceptable and we left. This is not something I do regulary but I felt humiliated. There was no care factor that evening at all from the staff on duty. You may wonder why I still gave it 3 stars-well, mistakes happen and I would actually go back again when I next go to Hawthorn because I want to try the food and give the service another chance.
Lovely vibe, great for after dinner dessert. Reasonable price and food was nice. Quiet place and very good for gathering if you think bars or pubs are too noisy to talk.
Ordered fondue set and hot chocolate to satisfy cravings and celebrate something personal. Was just great. Only feedback is some of the mini churro were bit undercooked/fried inside.
I think this a family run business, they were really sweet. We did upset the guy by taking photos of the environment. However the Churros and drinks were really good. Highly recommend the place.
