Dosa Cafe Hawthorn reviews
69We have ordered chicken dum biryani, dosa combo, chicken 65 fried rice and veg biryani. Out of all the item that we have ordered, only the veg biryani is good. Chicken biryani is not fresh and doesn’t taste good.
Ordered Mysora Dosa and Lamb Dosa, Idly, 3 different curries and rice. The Mysora Dosa was very bland and overcooked and the potato was gluggy and tasteless. I love Indian food and like a lot of flavour. The food here was just tasteless. We weren't offered any drinks, service very average, wouldn't eat here again, felt very ripped off.
We visited Dosa cafe for a birthday dinner and it was completely devoid of atmosphere. They definitely need to play some music as deafening silence (particularly given the other customers were 3 tables of solo diners with earpods in) does not create a memorable experience. It is a cheap and cheerful kind of place though so perhaps they are catering largely to a takeaway crowd.
Food wise I can’t complain though the garlic naan wasn’t very garlicky. I asked for extra garlic when I ordered my second but it still tasted fairly bland. Maybe they hadn’t put enough butter on it but either way it was a vessel to dip into my butter chicken which was tasty enough. We essentially came for the dosa as the restaurant name suggests which everyone enjoyed

Im glad to see dosa cafe being one of my favourite restaurant once again. I eat here so often and everyone I bring here enjoys the food very much. I dont care whatever anyone says about it, if you come here and order dosa, you’ll enjoy it I promise you that.
Keep up the good work boys!
What to order:
Dosa & chicken 65
Food was good. Was a nice experience, unfortunately drink selection was not as good as other places
Order the masala dosa, one of the best I’ve ever had, staff are super sweet and accommodating would recommend this place!
We’ve been here twice and for us it’s all about the food and ambience. We had the mysore masala dosa on the recommendation of the waiter and it was this amazing light, fluffy, crispy, spicy (but not overdone) dosa. So good. There are Bollywood music videos dancing in the background and we felt like there was a lot of love and effort put into the place. Even the fennel/aniseed after dinner treat was really tasty (we tried buying some from our local Indian grocery and it was so awful we threw it out!)
Cant give this any less than 5 stars.food was amazing and it should have a higher star rating.definetly coming back here
First time feel like Indian taste of Dosa, my son enjoyed a dosa very much, very good service. We will visit again with all family.
Hope they maintain the quality. Quality must be maintained in future for Indians. We always miss good indian food. Wish you good luck for your future growth.
Good Indian restaurant that offers sufficient food portions and is worth every penny invested. Both the red chutney-topped dosa and the sambar idly were excellent. A must-go-to location if you want to satisfy your cravings for Indian cuisine!
We love Dosa cafe’s South Indian dishes. So far we’ve tried biriyani, crispy masala dosa, chicken 65 noodles, naan, vada, idly and masala tea. Taste of the dishes, portion, customer service, atmosphere and everything else were great! This is a place everyone who loves South Indian cuisine should try!
This is one of the few Indian restaurants that serves food that is suitable for Indians. The cuisine and ambience are excellent, and the spices are just right for an Indian or someone who like somewhat spicy meals.
Went for late dinner. But it’s too late for dine in, ended up take away, honestly one of the best chicken biryani in this area highly recommend for biryani lovers. Guy at tge counter is very helpful too.
This was hands down the best Indian restaurant I've been to since, well, India. The atmosphere was relaxed, the waiters were endearing without being overbearing. The recommendation of the best dosa was sensational was it the moushi masala? So so good. My daughters tried the veg noodles and that fine but the dosa and the pakora were so enjoyable that it faded into the background. There was bollywood music videos playing in the background, made for a great atmosphere. There were not too many people in the cafe but it's such a pity because you are all missing out on a fabulous meal and experience. There was even aniseed at the counter and the toilet was so clean, plenty of water on the tables. Oh and I forgot to mention that the mango lassi was amazing, that's our ultimate point of judgement. Go here and have a great meal: be prepared for delicious, tasty, Indian food.
They are selling sweets for mother’s days special and the food was awesome has to try and highly recommend
Was exactly what I needed on a cold winter evening. Spice level is just right, and all the foods had very unique and distinct, and complementary flavours. Tried the dosa and biryani along with daal and naan.
Love the food here, so tasty and friendly service.the lamb/goat Briyani is to die for, as well as the Dosa options!
I decided to give Dosa Cafe a try today in my search for delicious Biryani. As a die-hard Biryani fan, seeing Goat Biryani on the menu always delights me. Having said that, I've had a variety of Biryanis from various parts of India and have a good sense of how they taste. My thoughts of the Biryani at the Dosa cafe.
- The first impression was that the biryani was excessively wet and that it lacked flavor.
The mutton was cooked well, however it felt like boiled meat added in chilly rice.
The rice was overcooked and extremely sticky.
Overall the Biryani had no taste or flavors. I wouldn't call it biryani in first place.
I was quite disappointed with what appeared to be a nice place.
If my order had been termed "Mutton rice" instead of "Goat dum biryani, " I would have given a better review.
Did order and took away idli and vada. Was very authentic. The restaurant is very well set up and good service. Tried their dosa as well on table, was awesome. However they can still improve on service.
One of the best Indian restaurants.
Pro: Taste, portion, prices & Mango lassi (yum)
Cons: Not 1 really.
A place that is MUST try …
Too good.
