Don Don reviews
70 Tucked away on a small lane close to Southern Cross station, the lunchtime queue here is testament to the dependably delicious donburi dishes on offer at incredible value for money.
The dine in area is an industrial chic space tucked away from the bustle at the counters.
I recommend any of the curry dishes, & their complimentary togarashi seasoning gives any dish a spicy kick.
Don Don is always fast, friendly, reliable, economical and SUPER TASTY! Well worth a visit and they do takeaway too. Five stars!
The best food with friendly staff working there. This one is the best Don Don restaurant. We will be eating here regularly for sure.:)
Nice! The vegetables was fresh, the protein very good taste, the service was very attentive and it is a very quiet place. I liked it.
Chicken curry don is just soso, the veges inside were overcooked, and also the curry flavor is too strong and salty. Strangely enough, teriyaki sauce was also in the curry bowlBe aware of that when you order this dish. Price is good for such meal in city, the vibe there is great! If you come in small group, this place is right for you.
First time going today, fast service and one of the few places in the city that actually give you generous portions + very affordable
Having been to most of the Don Don outlets the standard is remarkably consistent. Speedy service, fresh and delicious food that's cheap. The Sashi Don was scrumptious and the usual generous portion size applies. So glad you opened this place close to home.
Good food cheap price, however the only place to sit was filled with smoke and smelled like curry. Vegetarian options were very less.
By far the best value for your money in the city. ~$8 meals you can't beat, especially for the quality and quantity that you get. Would highly reccoemnd for anyone looking for meat and rice based dishes.
Best value for money restaurant in the city. Staff are friendly and fast, food always tastes amazing and serving sizes are generous for the low price point (most under $10!).
Can eat in or take away for a feast in the office.
Definitely a 5 star place. Affordable and tasty japanese food. I’ve tried a few dishes and I love the Poek Katsu Curry Don. Great place for a lunch take away.
I've been coming here for some time now. The service is always quick and friendly.
I had No 2 on the menu Buta Teriyaki Don or roast pork w rice and salad.
This place can be a little hit n miss at times depending on the time of day but today was spot on.
The pork was soft and hot, the plain rude good and the salad nice too.
Overall this place still represents great value and it's definitely worth a visit. Just off King Street in the CBD.
Early 2018
I’m back on my Japanese food journey again. I just can’t get enough hahaha
I’ve been to another Don Don store and I’d heard about this place so I was stoked when I found it, totally randomly.
There is a always a cue outside but the service is absolutely fantastic, and the staff are extremely attentive. I was inside and I’d ordered straight away and I’d sat down for about a minute and I was asked what I’d ordered. Wow that is amazing service.
I ordered a mixed bento box of chicken and beef. The beef was really good but the chicken was a bit dry and there was some gristle which I know ppl don’t mind but I just don’t like it. But the flavour was ok.
But this place is amazing value, so for the price I can’t whinge and the service aaa excellent. Oh the drinks, the wine is $3.50 a glass and the beer $3! Whatttt? Hahaha that’s cheaper than going to a bar!
Cya soon:)
Where can you get a Japanese meal in less than $10? Great japanese food, reminds me of one favorite japanese resto back home. And they have takoyaki too! Bento with beef and chicken was so worth it. Will go back with the family again.
Good restaurant, yummy meals for a fair price. Sometimes during the week is crowded but still a really good option to save money and time eating well.
I like their currys. Chicken, beef, pork or tofu on rice with curry sauce and a few veggies. Very tasty, exceptional value. Fast service.
Always busy and yesterday wasn't exception.
Best value for money lunch in town and the taste and quantity to boot on top
It gets a little confusing with the waiting line after the order.
Maybe a order number or ticket would be useful?
The food is super quick, cheap and aimed at the corporate lunch crowd. There’s often a line up at lunch time but the food comes out so fast that you won’t be waiting long. As long as you know what to expect you won’t be disappointed. It’s cheap, not the best Japanese food but suited for its purpose
Love Don Don.
It's close to my work place so whenever I thought to take my lunch out, it come first in my mind.
Few options to eat but all are very delicious.
Busiest time is between 12: 30 and 1: 30pm for lunch.
Was pleasantly surprised with the food. Dined on a Friday at 7pm. Ordered the Pork Katsu and Gyoza which was brought to the table rather quickly. The Katsu was lovely and the sauce accompanying it was especially delicious.
The service was friendly and prompt. The decor isn't anything special but that's okay. Upbeat pop music was playing throughout the meal which was
Very reasonably priced which was great. Was not impressed with having to dine with single use sporks which is cheap and nasty and adds nothing.
You have to prepay your meal before taking a seat - not that this is a problem, just a FYI.
If I'm in the area again I'll certainly drop in for a quick, fulfilling and cheap meal. Thanks to all!
Food came out super quick. So basically you order, pay, and wait for your food next to the register (regardless if you're eating in or take away). Come early (before 12) during lunch time if you want to avoid the queue.
Food quality is pretty good for the price and location.
The sitting area inside is small, prob can fit around 20ish people.
