Don Don reviews
70 I went there on purpose because it offers Japanese food and has good customer reviews.
The food wasn't as good as I thought.
It was too salty and strong.
The miso soup was also not very good.
It was a waste, so I tried to eat as much as I could.
But I couldn't eat it all.
I don't really want to recommend it.
The price is cheap
It seemed like water was provided for free.
The chicken karaage curry don never disappoints. Always busy but prompt service with consistent taste.
Don Don is a well-known and affordable Japanese restaurant in Melbourne, famous for its generous portion sizes. While their CBD location on Little Lonsdale Street was popular, it's understandable that prices have increased somewhat post-pandemic, as many restaurants have had to adjust their pricing.
The quick service and efficient delivery of your meal within about 5 minutes make it a convenient choice for lunch. While the taste may not be exceptionally remarkable, it offers a budget-friendly option to satisfy your lunch cravings. Many white-collar workers in the city opt for Don Don for their midday meals.
Fast service - takeaway, good reasonable priced food and wide range to select from.
** Come early to avoid Lunch time queue **
"" Feedback - hope the chef can reduce the salt in their curry don. Thanks.
The staff that served/ cooked had no idea what Japanese cuisine is. Frankly a disgrace of The Japanese Cuisine!
Damare desu
Tucked away in Melbourne’s CBD, this restaurant certainly delivers massive bang for your buck.
Love the food at Don Don's, filling, relatively fast and not super expensive.
Only got the take out but it looks like you can dine in here so I'm not going to comment on the service and atmosphere.
Would come back for lunch again
P. S: I mixed up some of the curry with the rice already, it doesn't come like that
Decent food at a reasonable price and super fast service. Unfortunately the curry was not proportionate to the amount of rice we got, so be prepared to eat plain rice or mix it all together and end up with muted curry flavours.
Amazing portions! Guaranteed to make you feel full! The noodles taste great! Definitely recommended. There were a lot of boxes around, I think they are renovating or moving, that euined the atmosphere for me a bit.
Good food at a good price! Ample portions, great value for money. I really like the fresh elements of the Bento Box
If you are heading to Francis Street Don Don, thinking that it would be like the same Don Don as the one in the Melbourne Central then I have bad news for you. The speed of service, quality of food, quantity is no more. The atmosphere will make you feel depressed. Food is not bad at best. RIP good old Don Don.
The line that can run down the street is proof alone to the popularity of this place, bit of a back door gem that serves great Japanese for a very good price. The service area may be tight but it's a system that works and adds to the charm of the place. It's part a chain of Don Don restaurants and it doesn't matter which you go to, the food and ambience is amazing. Oh and I do recommend the takoyaki
Definitely not recommended and will not return.
This Don Don is totally different from the other ones. They were extremely slow. We queued for ages and when it was our turn, they got us standing there for another 10 minutes and just ignored us. While we questioned why they finally gave us an attitude and told us they were not taking any order because they had a large backlog to clear, and told us we could leave if we were in a hurry. It was a total waste of 30 minutes. I am now all smelly with their kitchen smell, and my order was not taken.
You need to plan for at least 30 minutes from queuing to getting your food during lunch time, and that's only if you are lucky.
They took a large volume of online delivery orders and prioritised those. The walked-in customers were poorly treated. If they can't cope with all the demand then just close the shopfront and make it online order only.
Definitely not recommended and will not return.
Absolute gem. Food was great in taste and portions - at such a good price. Cosy old bar vibe. Service was quick! Love that the menu didn’t have like 63836 things on it and they stuck to a few classic dishes and nailed them.
Food is great; but the wait is ridiculous. I'd rather them warning me about the wait than let me wait 10 minutes in queue + 20 plus minutes for food to come out. When people who came in 7 tickets behind gets food before you - it's really really annoying.
There are two reasons why I purchase food at a place like this.
1. Its fast, very fast for take away.
2. It's reasonably good priced. But the food is average.
So. I attend on a Saturday and get charged on top a 15% weekend surcharge as well as a 1.5% card surcharge.
So 16.5% surcharge for what? Because you have a dodgy hand written sign stating you are forced to pay your staff weekend minimum wage. That's not our problem, you should be paying your staff more than minimum and every business as well as customers are doing it tough. What makes you different then anyone else to charge customers surcharges that are not displayed on the menu until the customer is about to tap their card? No other business charge this ridiculous fee.
The food isn't good enough and if I'm paying a higher fee I'd rather get something better quality instead of getting double pumped by you. Seeya
See attached receipt from Mr we charge 16.5% extra without stating it on the menu. Time to boycott businesses like you.
Great curry with rice and Udon broth was as it's meant to be. Overall 2 dishes and a beer cost $30 seriously good value
Second city store in the food chain. Very quiet during weekends compared to the Swanston street store. Self serve for cutlery. Chicken curry is the most popular dish and is very taste. Recently had a price increase and introduced a 15% weekend surcharge “to help pay penalty rates”.
Good food at reasonable prices. Over the last year has significantly increased pricing (much more than most businesses) and is not as good value as it used to be.
Items here are more expensive than their main store outside Melbourne Central. Card surcharge applies at this store too. The chicken avo salad usually comes with some fresh fruit but not from this store.
