Don Don reviews
69I like the food here at the Bank Street one but seriously you need to keep it clean! Wipe the tables and sweep and clear the rubbish outside! It’s especially important during these times. I won’t come back unless it improves.
Best Japanese food in town. I love this place, the food is delicious, the service is great, and the price is super affordable.
We’ve been dining in at Don Don since 2002 and it has been a long time since we had a meal here so yesterday (30 Dec 2021) we came back for a lunch. We ordered two don don box - which tasted the same since 2002 and new menu of chicken karaage. I noticed that the teriyaki chicken has a strong sake flavor towards bitter, perhaps even stronger than it used to? Regardless, the don don box still brings back good memories!
If there was 10 stars this place deserves it, this place is a melbourne institution.delicious bento box with quality ingredients, good portion, value for money, filling every time, we keep going back
The food deserves 5 stars but the restaurant does not accept BYO containers. So each time you go there, tons of plastic go the bin. Lots if cafes are now accepting keep cups after covid. This review will go to 5 stars as soon as the restaurant is more sustainable!
You will get full with just $10. Good taste and decent quantity. Busy place, might have to stand in queue during lunch hours.
Delicious simple Japanese meals. Tried most of the dish and fried chicken with extra Kewpie is a must. Good hack to this is siracha Kewpie from Woolies, gives bit more kick to it. I starts to think Don Don should be Yum Yum!
Awesome restaurant. Very very affordable. Highly recommended restaurant. I would like to give them more than 5 *
I wasn’t expecting much from this little Japanese store when I was trying to find a bite to eat around the gardens south of the Yarra, but a WHOLE BENTO BOX FOR $10? If I worked nearby, I’d be here for every meal!
Totally ruined my order, no apologies for the over charging and no receipts were given. Customers Beware to check your food before you leave the store, customer experience extremely poor In this instance!
Good food, good price, good service, good value. My go to for a healthy alternative for takeaway
This is one of those "great food but. " places. The food we had we lovely. Full of flavour and felt.authentic. But the order and pickup process is a mess when it's busy. They don't take names, just meal orders so it's a mess when it comes to picking up your meal. Because they won't deliver to your table. This would be a five star rating for the food alone but the order and collect process is pretty bad.
Fast, efficient and cheap. Food is solid quality for the price. Plenty of seating and rush hour isnt that bad. Highly recommended for anybody looking for lunch.
I regularly come here during work lunch times.
Very affordable Japanese food, nice portion for a quick lunch during lunch hour. Most of the food choices are with Japanese curry, which I don’t fancy so I have to settle for the teriyaki chicken don, just when I was on my way to an empty seat, I was called to pick it up. Wow, just seconds and its ready for you. Superbly fast. We eat fast too hahaha. Delicious and enough to shut the tummy up. Well done.
Wow. I wasn't expecting this. Crispy and tender pork katsu, a bit of spice in the breading, and that 'close your eyes and let your taste buds tell you it'd the right flavour' Japanese curry. And the price! Cannot be beaten (only eaten). Get yourself over to Don Don! I can't wait to try their other dishes.
Fast pleasant food, basic surroundings. You'd be hard pressed to find better value in the city! Fried chicken is a real winner!
Don Don is exactly what I wanted. I was after a healthy, delicious lunch, with a great price and served quickly. This ace can be very busy so be aware. The Teriyaki chicken that I had was cooked so the chicken pieces were still moist, the rice had absorbed the sauce and was just delightful. They are open until 8pm so you can have a great dinner before going to the theatre if you are near by.
First they were out of avocado salad, then the tofu tasted weird and old, the carrot was for some reason black, and there was an at least 20cm long hair inside our food. Just read other reviews and maybe we’ve came in a bad time, but we defo wouldn’t visit a second time.
Can’t go wrong with this place, have been coming here for many years having the chicken curry Don and seen a few minor price rises, but it’s still so cheap and so satisfying. Can get busy at lunch times during the week but although the queue looks big, it goes quite quickly. To improve the dishes they could add some more vegetables and the tofu they use is a bit dry for the tofu curry.
