Dominique Portet Winery reviews
56Bertie the waiter was awesome. Super kind and pleasant and made our entire experience worth remembering. Thank you for being such a star. Food was awesome!
Some of the wine was ok, but the manager was super rude, working on customer service would be my recommendation.
Great surrounds, and the facade of the building is very pretty, however it is just a facade. Much like the rest of the experience, it seeks to make itself more than it really is. It is overpriced and under delivered. The wine is little better than goon out of a bag, the service is almost non-existent and not very well informed. Personally, I felt ripped off by paying $5 p/p just for the tasting.
Nice surrounds. Food was French. Indoor and outside seating. Had the crab and coconut and avocado salad - love the flavours. Duck croquette was ok - On the bland side. Sardine and charcuterie board were great. Wines were excellent especially the rose. Well priced.
A great place to show off the Yarra valley to friends - stand out on tasting was the sparkling rose, the still rose and the Cabernet and Chardonnay but all wine impress. The food is casual French bistro chic with great flair. Dominique spends a bit of time in the cellar door and enjoys sharing the love with guests while his son Ben is busy back of house crafting benchmark Yarra wines
Service was friendly and wine tasting was reasonably priced at $5, but the grounds were only okay.
Incredibly poor service at the bar. Couldn’t cope with the busy post Christmas holiday weekend. Also very snooty, pompous and stuck up wine tasting service from the sommelier Very disappointed with the service
We had a lunch for 5 people and the wine, food and friendly service were all first class. Highly recommend this for lunch or even just a cellar door visit. The wines, especially the signature Rose, are outstanding and the knowledgeable yet completely unpretentious welcome we received in the dining room and cellar door made this the stand out of our trip to the Yarra Valley.
Fantastic cheese board (fromage), complimented the Rosé and Doux!
Service was great and the space really nice, however the space was quite rowdy, so if you want a quiet seat, maybe the outdoor section on a nice summer afternoon would be better than indoor on a rainy Melbourne day.
Do recommend!
Service is slow, and the wait staff was absent most of the time here. - not even to fill up our water glasses.
Impressed the owner Dominique came out and said hi. Favourite was the 2008 Shiraz but enjoyed that the rose and Chardonnay tasted unique to others almost soft and creamy in some ways. Staff were friendly and professional. Will definitely be back!
Boutique producer with French flair and nice varietals representing the Yarra Valley, the Rosè is a very good wine. Recent renovations look fantastic and some serious wines on tasting. Restaurant is well regarded and the meals are full flavoured.
Visited on a Friday noon & we were the only other patrons aside from a small group. It was as though we had a private tasting session! Tastings are at $5 per pax, waived if you make a bottle purchase. Tasting menu includes sparkling, whites, rose, & reds. Loved all the wines here & brought home a few bottles (was a tough choice). Did not have a chance to try the food but one of the employees shared with us that the chef has some speciality dishes using Thai flavors & was part of Masterchef AU. Great service & hospitality, a pity we couldn’t sit outside with a glass as the weather that day was cold, wet & windy. Would love to be back again!
Michael at the tasting table was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and made us feel at home. Beautiful surrounding. Had a glass on wine in the garden and enjoyed the beautiful view. We have booked for lunch in a month so we will be back. Their wines are to die for.
Great wines however best to buy a bottle and go to your next winery of choice. The cellar door charges your a per person corkage fee to sit and drink their wine. Not worth the extra $$$
A lovely place, especially on a bright sunny day, with lots of outdoor space. The food is good and the staff is accommodating. The Parfait a l'orange is exquisite and a true feast for the taste buds.
I'd recommend them to publish their menu on the website. The are limited options for vegetarians so make sure to check when you book. Also mind that the restaurant area at the back will get very loud when full because the room has high ceiling and concrete walls and floor with nothing to absorb the sound and echo.
