Great quality Xiao Long Bao dumplings, originated from Jiangsu province. Xiao Long Bao's are filled with special Pork filling which when steamed releases a yummy soup alongwith the filling. Din Tai Fung is famous for its Michelin Star dumplings. A must visit to try those yummy suckers.

After a few years in Victoria, we decided to give it a go to the local Din Tai Fung. We were huge fan of DTF in Singapore for years. Unfortunately this visit was squire disappointing. Everything was bland, not enough aroma, the noodle soup was bland, noodle could taste the rawness, even the Xiao Long Bao was below Shanghai Red. We just filled our tummies minus the satisfaction. It was below the standard we tasted in Singapore. And lastly, the service level was almost non existence (imagine kept waving to get attention). Well for many, maybe it was good enough, nothing to compare to; so I respect that.

Everything was okay, but not great. Food was served warm. Service was good and ordering was easy with it all being done on a tablet. When ordering dessert there was the option to get it immediately or get it after the food was served, which is a nice touch. Mentioned that there was a child in our party and they had a plastic bowl and cutlery ready to go.

The crispy pork Bao was extremely disappointing due to the lack of crispy pork belly but everything else we ordered definitely made up for it!

Came in after getting high praises from friends and it did not disappoint - super busy, but quick service and iPad ordering from your table made it very quick to serve.

The xiao long bao are perfect. Juicy and delicious. Service was good. I found the other dishes such as the chilli won tons and broccoli with prawns over priced and nothing special. The atmosphere is lacking a little. If you only come for the xiao long bao then you’ll love it.

Somewhat disappointed at my most recent visit and I felt that the quality was not what it used to be.

That xiao long bao was still better than most places - thin see through skin, decent volume of soup. However the top where the creases meet was dry and would stick to the roof of your mouth.

The truffle flavoured xiao long bao was pretty decent, and mostly lived up to its price tag.

The most disappointing was the "shiu mai" - which used the exact same filling as the xiao long bao, and a small shrimp placed on top. The skin was undercooked and doughy in the middle.

The shrimp and pork wonton was quite nice, had a good ratio of shrimp and pork which gave a nice springy texture. Although all the "spicy sauce" dressed dumplings were a bit too overly sweet and not aromaticly spicy as it should be.

Staff are helpful and very efficient so the wait times are not too bad even when it's busy.

Premium prices for very ordinary dumplings.

Very good authentic Taiwanese dish. None of them disappointed me at all! My partner was very impressed with the kung pao tofu and beef fried rice. Xiao long bao is good as usual as their signature. Crispy fried prawn with mayo and pineapple sauce is also a must try if you want a taste of Taiwanese dish.

Walk in reservations are a joke. Waited 1.5 hours being told that online reservation has prio, in the end never got a call back from the booking anyways

Had to say that the food there is average. However service wise can be much better comparing to its overseas stores, such as head office in Taiwan. We ordered spicy sesames noodle and it came with plain sesames noodle - called the waitress and she tried to say the spicy one is only a little spicy therefore it tastes just like what you are having! NO, it's just plain and no any bit spicy at all!

The fried rice came in broken shape, like it was just dumped into the plate with a broken corner! Dumpling soup came with over boiled and leaked most of them! Folks I recon you can do much better than this. Hopefully your service can catch up the ones in Taiwan sooner!

A great restaurant serving up some yum and creative dishes. The restaurant holds a big space and there is plenty of seating available. Staff were attentive and very friendly.

We shared 2 different types of dumplings, crispy chilli chicken, crab fried rice and the hot cross bun bao's. We enjoyed all the dishes, I particularly liked the crab fried rice as I had not tried this anywhere before and it was really delish! There was a generous portion of crab meat through the rice.

The hero has to be the hot cross bao buns, so cute and very creative. Inside the bun was filled with a rich decadent chocolate and it was really enjoyable.

Thanks for having us, we had a great time!

1. It was AMAZING that there is a direct access to the restaurant via lift at the corner of Little Bourke Street and Caledonian Lane.

2. It was a DISAPPOINTMENT that when we arrived, there was not one table labeled 'reserved' for us. They just appointed a random table to us like we were walk-ins. What's the point of booking ahead then?

3. I'm from Taiwan and I was DISAPPOINTED that Din Tai Fung Melbourne didn't have their signature eight-treasure rice pudding.

4. Their chili oil is AMAZING. We bought a jar to take home.

5. Fried rice with crab was GREAT.

6. Xiao long baos were GOOD AS EXPECTED.

7. It was a DISAPPOINTMENT that they had beers from Japan, Australia and China, but not Taiwan.

Who doesn't love this place? Quick service! Great food. Can't go past the xiao long bao, shredded pork fried rice and pretty much any of the noodle dishes.

The dessert ox buns (chocolate) are a great temporary addition to the menu

This is definitely the worst Din Tai Fung I have been to, quality of food are subpar standard compared to other Din Tai Fung restaurants. Their famous xiao long boa was dry and the meat was not freshly. The chicken soup noodles was diluted and taste quite bland. Serve portion was small and overpriced. This place definitely ruin the reputation of Din Tai Fung and I’m surprised they are still running.

I have been to Din Tai Fung in Sydney and Malaysia and unfortunately the Melbourne store is not up-to-par with their quality. The servings were noticeably smaller compared to my previous experiences, especially the prawn and pork shao mai and braised beef noodle soup. The beef noodle soup usually comes quite nicely arranged but it looked a bit thrown together and the noodles were overcooked, lacking the 'chew'. The service was quite efficient and friendly, especially the floor manager. Not sure if the food quality of this branch is worth going back for, considering the premium price.

This place is ok. It's not brilliant, it's not bad. It's a name, it's a lovely setting but for the price you are paying the flavour is only ok. In a street brimming with quality Asian food you can get better bang for buck elsewhere.

Fresh and handmade Dumplings to die for. I love that they serve dumplings with freshly grated ginger. It amps up the taste.
I am not a fan of msg and they use msg in their dumplings. That’s why I have stopped eating there.

This has the No. 1 spot of chinese place in Melbourne on my list.

Everything we have ordered the three times we've been here has been amazing. From dumplings to noodles, etc. A bit on the expensive side with respect to others in china town, and the portions are slightly smaller. However, I believe the dishes are so good and tasty that it is worth a try.

Wanna give 3.5 stars rather than 3.

Every foods were pretty good. Especially dumplings were very succulent. Very spacious place with good music. But the thing is the noodle and the fried rice was kinda not that hot so we had to ask to heat that up.

Every staffs were very friendly and helpful.
