Inpatient facilities review:
It's a psych ward during a pandemic, so it was never going to be perfect, but it's probably one of the best experiences I could have asked for given the circumstances. Facilities are clean, most of the nurses are lovely and warm, staff seem like 80% on top of things which is rare for any medical environment. Meals are excellent. Broad range of activities and therapies offered. The cleaning staff are thorough, polite and non-invasive and the kitchen staff are brilliant, flexible and very talented. Special shout out to Eliot for his great cooking and even greater kindness. Nurses Anil, Simba, Anna and Emily (though so many Emilys and Annas you won't know who you are, sorry). Almost all the Ashwood and Hartwell staff I encountered have been wonderful.
If you're struggling, there's a good chance Delmont's inpatient program will be able to help.

Submitted a referral as normal, wait over two weeks with no reply. Call up to check on the status, they say they've received it but aren't taking new patients for that area.
Would have been nice to know at some point instead of having to call up to find out.

I had never been to a mental health hospital so asked over the phone for some info. Do they have a library there? They don't know. Can I ask how I book in for the massages they say are available? No clue, massage person is called Tania. They don't know her last name. They don't know when she comes. What day do they have a bed? They're very busy.til next week. So.no beds for sure this week? We didn't say that.call us every day to check.honestly, do any of you care at all about the vul me table people you bleed dry financially, or are they just dollar signs to you?

Rooms were comfortable and quite large (desk, bed, storage and a tv) The nurses are extremely caring and professional, particularly the night-nurses, nothing is too much trouble for them and they listen to your concerns. Great garden. Some of the groups were a bit dated n their approach, but otherwise it was generally helpful learning and recovering at Delmont.

So far it has been more than a month while I refused a Dr that accepted by referral and after that two doctors have refused my referral. So let's see how long this musical chair goes and then we ask why do we have so many mental health issues in this country?

Lack of communication and ownership. I feel for the receptionist that has to pick the phone everytime and deal with patients. They should get free sessions for handling doctors and management's mismanagement.

I am more amazed at the fact that i was referred to these guys from a well reputed practice in Toorak because they don't take referrals from GPs.

I guess you have to be rich to get good health care, specially mental health care.

If you are in time critical situation, don't go to them.

No duty of care whatsoever. Its a hospital for patients who are experiencing mood disorders but apparently you cannot behave in a manner that is unacceptable so they wipe their hands off you. An independent hospital only seeking your money. Do not go there.

Have been admitted a few times. The staff are fantastic, full of empathy, and the food is terrific!

I was a patient at Delmont twice, once in 2020 and once in 2021. The food is amazing. The nurses are kind and actually care about patient well being. Sometimes that doesn't translate well, such as when one encouraged me to go to a music therapy group while I was having a panic attack, but that was the only negative interaction I've had with a nurse.

Please avoid this practice at all costs. Had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had regarding mental health services. I don’t think this practice takes mental health or their patients seriously.

My sister rang the Delmont Hospital this morning on advice of her GP to make an appointment with Dr Steven Jones for my adolescent nephew. The receptionist that answered her call was the rudest, most disrespectful
person we have ever encountered. She bluntly told my sister that Dr Jones 'isn't taking new patients' and that her referral will be automatically returned to her. She also rudely stated that no Dr would take on my nephew because of his age anyway, despite the centre stating they do treat adolescents, and offered her absolutely no suggestion of an alternative option or if there was a waiting list. I am appalled as a health care professional myself that someone seeking help would be spoken to and treated in this way, and feel this receptionist reflects very poorly on Delmont Private Hospital.

Best place around in Melbourne by far! Not only was it successful but very supportive and attentive.nurse's are wonderful doctors are great. Very highly recommended! Food is also by far the best quality of any hospital I've been to. Delmont is a saviour if YOU are ready!

Re: Dr Ashu Gandhi – disgusting. “He is to be avoided” - this would be my advice to myself.

Dr Ashu Gandhi, deserves severe and harsh condemnation as a health professional.

(As a side note, he has some questionable billing practices. So I’d recommend carefully watching his billing. But that is a very minor and negligible point.)

It is disconcerting that he would be treating some of the most vulnerable and defenceless in our community: both economically, and from a mental health perspective. I can see from the other reviews, that I am not alone in this opinion. If I had I seen such reviews before commencing with Dr Ashu Gandhi, I would think twice.

I don’t write negative reviews on doctors, especially if they do not have a chance to reply. But Gandhi is so egregiously bad, that an exception has to be made. I have been most kind with this review. If I were to speak freely I would say much worse.

(All of the following is my opinion and based on my experiences. Yours may be different. Good luck with you, and all the best with your decisions).

One Psychiatrist wanted me in the psych ward, but then let me go due to not having private health insurance.

Another Psychiatrist admitted to dad she was a pill pusher and lied to me about assisting with getting a diagnosis for my condition after verbally being asked aswell as a written letter to her after so many appointments and no progress.

It really is an abysmal place for mental health support and issues. Tread carefully if you are seeking help.

Costs $400 an hour for those unaware or if anyones asking.

I was here to get help, clearly, but their approach to either customers not being a bank to them was just insulting.

I, usually am not the one to write a review.however, with the recent events that have occurred to me, I feel compelled to share my experience with those who are on the same path.in search of professional help for their mental health and well-being.
Let me begin by giving you some form of context of what you will expect at Delmont Private Hospital. Their culture and professionalism in customer admin services and in-patient care with psychiatrists, can only be described as 'appalling' and 'apathetic' in nature.

The first of many major Red Flags, my psychiatrist was not very punctual.our session was suppose to begin at 3: 30, after having waited 10 minutes! Walked me in without showing any signs of sincerely being apologetic or concerned, his own behavior started to raised my attention.

Whilst in session with a psychiatrist.with all the introductory proceedings aside, half-way through our very brief session.the psychiatrist began to show signs lacking of interest and concern with their patient by YAWNING!

Let me tell you now, how appalling and blatantly rude I found it to be, not only once but multiple, consecutive times by the end of the session. There seemed to be no signs of awareness in his disrespectful behavior, and imagine, how offensive this would seem to someone who, after a certain amount of time and effort had the courage to put themselves in such a vulnerable position to speak about dark, personal issues and burdens of their own suffering.

I mentioned before that this session was brief, I have booked in for an hour and the session lasted until 4: 20.without realizing the time, while in the midst of a conversation (bear in mind the lack of engagement and empathetic nature). He called this session to an abrupt halt and sent me away to pay for the full price of the session (Keep in mind that the session had only lasted 30mins). I left ultimately disappointed by the whole bitter experience.

It troubled me so. I had to cancel the next appointment.
The next event, was the one which eventually led me to write this up this whole review.
After going to my GP, he sent in an open referral.
I expected them to call back and speak to me about another arrangement and schedule another time with a different psychiatrist.
However, the call never came, after waiting for a few weeks, I finally received a notification from them in the form of a phone message requesting me to call a psychiatrist they have chosen for me.

Well. I called, one of their Consultation admin staff member, 'Julianna' or 'Jacky' as I cant recall between the two was bold and appallingly rude, having interrupted me while i was explaining my recent situation, she consistently spoke over me in a demanding, contrived tone.and much to my unexpected demise.abrupted me saying:
"You cant speak to me anymore".
"We will see if they want you". I can only guess this was her damned attempt to cut the call off and leave it until further notice.

There are only two things that I can guarantee here:
You will be utterly 'disrespected' and ultimately 'disappointed' by coming here.

There wont be a next time, this place is Absolute SCUM.

If you are still contemplating.you know that a good review is hard pressed to come by.and this kind of experience always has some kind of truth in it.

Delmont is fantastic. The staff are friendly and helpful which includes the nurses, drs, support staff and of course the catering staff. The food is really good too. I can't speak highly enough about this hospital.

Center is clean and above standard for Covid restrictions, doctors here seem to be well spoken and educated, although rushed for times with lots of appointments to attend and can be difficult to re-book shortly after. Receptionists seem fine if you smile:)

Missed 1st appointment as things a bit backwards for me at the moment, she was supposed to specialize in mental illness and ADHD but instead I got condescending amd had the doctor repeat what I said to another staff member like it was amusing for them then after being on hold said its policy to have to start the whole process again, policy that she took a few minutes to remember btw, so maybe its a policy thats for when they make assumptions about people I felt, if they umderstood ADHD they would know I want help but im really bad at organizational skills and do genuinely forget things at the drop of a hat and dont remember till the next day (but people always make assumptions that its laziness or im being slack when im really not, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOUR AN ADULT WITH ADHD. SOMEWHERE LESS JUDGEMENTAL (This is how I felt so its the truth to me). JUST RUDE!

There was an appointment that I had made with my doctor that wasn’t showing up in the system.
Meredith didn’t believe that the appointment existed.
I didn’t imagine calling and making an appointment.
Meredith said she’d talk to my doctor. She asked what room number his office is. When I said I didn’t know, she rolled her eyes as she got up to go find out.

My complaint about Meredith was handed in shorty after.
After months had gone by, and only after contacting the Health Complaints Commissioner, I find out that staff were spoken to.
No other details, no apology. Just staff were spoken to. Not impressed with the complaints process.

Meredith has been the worst so far, but she isn’t the only rude and unfriendly receptionist I have met or spoken to over the phone.
All the admin team need to realise that this is a clinic that people with mental illnesses attend, and they should treat us with patience, respect and understanding.

The best treatment for those who require a detox is at Delmont. The staff members are notably friendly. The food was just amazing, restaurant quality. I wouldn't take old anecdotal-based negative reviews seriously.
I was admitted for two weeks but could have easily stayed longer.
Regards, R.
