Crossways Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant reviews
50Always a chilled out place to eat a vege meal cooked with care. I ate in upstairs and took take away home for my teen. Melbourne Crossways is a retreat amongst hustle and bustle and amazing value and great vegie curries and salads and classic halva dessert. Lovely staff serving. Thank you for providing this service.
Came here tonight for takeaway after stumbling upon this place. I will come back again to sit down with my daughter. Food was delicious and amazing service. Sootha (sorry about the spelling) you are so kind, generous and thoughtful. My daughter loved the lassi and I will be back for more for her. It was a blessing to meet you tonight and eat the blessed food from the temple reminding me of my proud Indian ethnicity and heritage. Thank you so much and happy Diwali again. Wish you, Crossways team and your family good health, happiness, light and prosperity for all of your days. Stay blessed and continue to bless others in the way you do.
Very good Indian vegetarian/vegan food restaurant. Super economical price. All you can eat with dessert and drinks included. The food is prepared in the Hare Krsna temple, so it is sacred food. Highly recommended.
This was a great place. The staff were inviting and welcoming, happy to explain how their restaurant worked, and genuinely just seems excited to feed people.
My partner and I were able to get dinner, a drink, and dessert for under $20. That's for the both of us, not per person. Plus they'll let you get seconds, no extra charge.
They seemed open to and excepting of visibly queer trans people like myself, which was great too. Fantastic place, highly recommend.
I don’t appreciate one of the Hari workers aggressively telling me not to feed the birds outside. I’ve been a regular for decades and couldn’t believe the way this horrible devotee spoke to me. He shouldn’t be in customer service at all. I’m really saddened because he has cast a nasty blemish over an overall great experience. People’s tone can be extremely offputting at times, and this was one of those times. Shame on you, tough guy devotee! Keep in mind as well that at a vegan/vegetarian restaurant, you are going to encounter customers who are disproportionately inclined to feed the birds. Be aware! You're going to aggressively scold customers who are relaxing, enjoying themselves and flicking a few grains of rice at the birds? Maybe you should realize the kind of behaviour from your side that attracts negative reviews!
Best vegan food you can get for cheapest is available here. ALL YOU CAN EAT is best thing here. Environment is very calming you can get as much food as you want.
It’s permanently closed at the address specified.

You can cop a mean feed at this joint for just 6.95AUD Concession/8.95AUD Full Price. All you can eat! 2 Mains, Dessert and a Drink! Crossways and the Hare Krishnas have been serving Melbourne delicious, lacto-vegetarian fare for many decades. A wonderful place for good food and good company! A real community hub!
Delicious food & extremely good value! Highly recommend. I agree with the good reviews for Riva Cafe Bar! A group of 8 of us went for dinner one Friday night recently. The place was full & buzzing. Taste was fantastic and that’s whats matters. Yum, yum, yum!
Minimalist set up, tasty food, rapid and polite service, very reasonable price, and if you're still hungry you can get seconds for free! Highly recommend.
Best place in the town. Best meal, best people, best mood, best deeds.all for $ all you can eat. Now that's best bargain.
Best cheap meal in the city. I've been coming here for years without complaint, and hope to do so for many more. Thank you Crossways.
If I could give this place no stars I would.
My wife ate here for lunch today. Said it was alright for the price but the food was nothing to write home about.
The problems began when she complained of feeling not very well.
Taking a "you'll be right" attitude, I brushed the comment aside.
Boy oh boy, that was a mistake. She was not alright.
I have never seen someone so violently ill like that in all my days.
As of me writing this review she is still hugging the toilet bowl bringing up everthing she has ever eaten in her entire existence.
Maybe a visit from the health inspector is needed to find out what's going on at this place.
This is by far my favourite place to eat in Melbourne! It's SO cheap (discounted for students), offers hearty/wholesome meals (including dessert- I LIVE for halva in custard) and is always a warm, welcoming environment to sit down at any time of the day.
The communal seating is so nice because it encourages everyone to eat together. While it does get busy, it's still a really calm place to go eat. There's even the option to go upstairs where (if you're lucky) you can get the lovely window table overlooking Swanson St and the town hall.
The curries are ALWAYS delicious- literally THE PERFECT meal to get you through a chilly Melbourne day in Winter! I don't think I've ever had the same curry- even if I have, I've never had any leftovers! Plus, the dessert (as previously mentioned) is so dang yummy! Never tried anything like it before I want here and ever since, I never turn down a bowl of it!
So if you hadn't already registered my general feelings towards Crossways, it's one of total appreciation for its existence! As a student studying in the CBD, it's awesome to having a place so close to campus where I can eat a proper, nutritious meal when assessments are bogging me down and I don't have the time to cook.
Give it a visit if you haven't already! I'm sure you'll be a regular like the rest of us soon!
Great place to have lunch or dinner especially for seniors very reasonably priced and you can go back for seconds very calm and relaxing place regards mark Wilden
I'd highly recommend this place. Affordable vegetarian food, good atmosphere and a central location, and the main meals always seem to be vegan.
One of the best vegetarian food you can have in Melbourne city. I went there twice a week when I was a student as my university is near to crossways. If I go to city for shopping crossways is my first preference for having lunch. Nice staff and hygiene food with the best price in city.
Hare Krishna restaurant. Decent curry for $7 including free refills. Good option if you are on a budget.
A place to eat vegetarian food free from harassment. Mains, dessert and drink for under $9
Ring the bell when you leave.
I've eaten Hari food for decades, always tasty, always filling, always grounding.
GREAT LOW COST OPTION FOR HEALTHY VEGETARIAN MEALS
There is nothing fancy about Crossways but that just adds to its street cred!
No-frills setup which is more like a school canteen than a restaurant but you get an "all you can eat" offering of healthy Indian-influenced vegetarian meals (for just $8 if you are a student).
Friendly staff.
People with mobility issues - you need to negotiate a flight of stairs to the first floor dining hall.
