Coconut Lagoon Indian Restaurant reviews
57Amazing authentic Kerala food! We visited for the first time for Kerala night buffet, which happens on Tuesdays! The spread was excellent and tasted delicious. Wish we had the appetite to eat it all! Good to a restaurant keeping it authentic. Will definitely be a regular here!
The most unprofessional, arrogant people working there. In spite of having done a booking, reached on time, they took one hour and no food was served and they have the audacity to talk to customers in the most rude way. What, do they think they are doing any favour? The kids were hungry and they don't have the basic decency to just make two dosas for them? The kids 4 and 7 year Olds. What a shame you call yourselves a South Indian restaurant. It's an insult to all South Indians.
The owner shoukd very well know how his staff work in the restaurant. They are bringing a bad reputation to the owner. The server and the chef.shame shame! I hope I get a call to explain it to him about the atrocity meted out to us. We placed the order in 5 minutes since they do everything from scratch itseems. Dosa? They do the batter only after placubg an order? The economic department in Melbourne shoukd take serious action on these u professional, money making machines.
Be ready to wait quite a long time to get your food served. Taste is average. Portion size is ok. So to sum up it all the experience was average.
Stunning southern kerala style indian food. Have dined many times and the food never disappoints. Will be going back again and again.
Best south Indian food ever. I loved it, really had a great time here. All the waiters and chef were really great. Really great service and food especially from Binoy, Manoj and Milan. As I normally enjoy south Indian food but this one was on another level. Got proportion of spices and flavour really balanced well.
Would highly highly recommend.
You will not regret for sure.
INCREDIBLE FOOD!
Thanks so much for the best Indian food we've had in a long time, probably the best we've had outside of India!
Your naan is amazing.and Masala Dosa - yummy! Enough spice in the Butter Chicken to get a tingle in your mouth but not so much that it hurts.
Can't wait to come back!
My experience with Coconut Lagoon has been great always. The service is good. People are kind. Slow, but I will not complain. I go for the authentic Kerala food that they serve. If you are not a Keralite and are feeling a bit adventurous try Puttu and Kadala curry, the chicken stew in coconut milk. Absolutely gorgeous.
The kappa and fish curry were just OK. I have had better fish curry. Porotta and beef fry were pwoli (superb).
Wonderful place to have some authentic and tasty south Indian dishes. Everything is made fresh and even if there is a bit of wait for the food, definitely worth the wait. Would highly recommend if you want to try some South Indian / Kerala food.
It took us 15 minutes before we saw a a staff member. Bad start. There was an unmarked button to press. Duh
Nice Indian authentic food. Excellent service from staff and specially owners. Must visit for dining especially south India food. Great taste and flavour.
Worst experience. Have to wait for the food minimum 40 minutes.
After 40 minutes of waiting the kothu paratha I ordered had egg shells in it. When I complained about this to the chef he gave me a pista ice cream in return as a complementary, as they were not ready to prepare the food once again.
Will never recommend this restaurant to any of my friends.
Easily a must avoid restaurants
If there was anything called customer service in Australia, You would certainly find it here. Rare authentic South Indian restaurant Starting from typical keral fish curry to sweet ending Payesam is extraordinary.
North Indian dishes are good too compared to any North Indian restaurant in Melbourne and believe me I have eaten everywhere but it's not extraordinary like their south Indian dishes.
They do buffets also at some days of the week.
Main Dishes can take sometime to prepare however it's a good to call prior and order if you are always too hungry like me so you don't waste time waiting. I felt restaurant is slightly under utilized and choice of music can be better.
However for me best South Indian restaurant I ve eaten in last 5 years because of amazing food and traditional ambience with excellent service. (Alex and team)
To be honest. Curry wasn't tasty. Porotta doesn't looks fresh, i think its made from that frozen porotta which we can get from indian stores. Falooda not worth for money. Overall, very expensive# not tasty
Authentic Kerala style food and experience a variety of dishes combined in a buffet served only on Tuesday on a reasonable price. You don't find a lot of good Kerala food around in Victoria.
Really Good Entrees. Ordered Chicken Samosa and Tandoori Chicken. I must say its the bestTandoori Chicken that I had in Melbourne.
Great quality food, friendly service, reasonable pricing. Definitely recommended. Best Indian food in the area.
One of the best south Indian Restaurant in the Melbourne the butter chicken was so yummy with the nan and I had chicken korma which is delicious and I always love to go over there and the staff is so smily face and nice nature
Sunday buffet is worth trying!
For non-buffet orders, expect delays and be ready to spent 2-3 hours depending on the crowd.
Great venue and location. This is one of the very few places that makes kerala (south indian) food so close to the original taste. People from kerala will know the difference in comparison to other such restaurants who just claim it but fails to deliver.
