City Wine Shop reviews
79 Amazing and accessible wine bar with options ranging from approachable by the glass to premium by the bottle.
Premium bar snacks and simple food available.
I highly recommend City Wine Shop for both their variety, and their approach.
I’ve been going to city wine shop and the European (next to each other) for the last decade and they never disappoint. They introduced a more limited but delicious menu. We ordered the confit duck l’orange, eggs Benedict, grilled zucchini and green beans. I couldn’t fault anything as they were so well made. Duck was so soft and juicy with generous serving of jus, hollandaise on the eggs were buttery and creamy, the grilled zucchini was so flavoursome (my favourite) and green beans with confit shallot was just amazing.
This gem of a city wine bar is perfect for a summer's day drink on the pavement or in winter a sweet at the long indoor tasting table. There is an excellent selection of wines by the glass or bottles from the retail part. Great nibbles or more generous plates are of an brilliant standard.
Wine is tasty and does display high quality when you taste it. The prices are a bit more premium though for something similar from other outlets that specialises in wine.
4 days post stage 4 and the food was great as usual. Service was good (for me) but some of my friends felt they were being ignored by waitstaff.we had a rowdy group excited to be out and about so apologies all round I guess. Nonetheless love this venue and great to see them back in business.
House prosciutto & the cod roe crumpet were stand outs!
After such a lengthy lockdown we were greeted with a plethora of excuses as to why we weren't being served. In addition, the push back was so strong that they pointed out what drinks we couldn't have. Unfortunately, the defensive response put us on the back foot which was a shame. The bill also took its time to arrive. While our waiter was friendly, the overall service and attitude needs work.
Covid allowed just 1 outdoor table for 1.5 hours but it was great food, service and wine selection.
Highly cold and uncomfortable atmosphere. It's very obvious the staff want you to leave as soon as you sit down. Probably should have expected this given the pointed looks of the staff.
Great wine! Okay food. The service however was atrocious. We arrived to an attitude, every question we had was met with an annoyed tone in the response. There was also no gas in the outdoor heaters. After the unprecedented times that we have all been through, we would have thought at a minimum those luckily enough to be back in a role within the hospitality industry would have demonstrated some customer service. Such a shame this woman didn’t care enough about her role or City Wine Shops reputation.
My friends and I came here in the afternoon for drinks and something to eat. The wine was great, but the service was horrendous. There was a woman who served us that was so rude. Every question we asked was met with a passive aggressive answer. It was incredibly surprising, given the hit restaurants and bars have taken and as it was the first weekend of restrictions being lifted. We were quite nervous asking her more questions and as a result we ended up leaving to another bar. She had brown/blonde hair which was tied up in a high bun. Her service was an awful representation of City Wine Bar’s reputation. Word of advice - when you have customers willing to come out and support local businesses take care of your customers.
A perfect place to find all kinds of wine, so good to sit and drink in and or buy your favorite wine for a party that you are going to!
A must try is their polenta appetizer! Its like noting I have had before. It was so good!
Thank you guys for the great service.

Probably the best wine selection in the city. Great spot to pick up a takeaway or have a glass. Or a bottle. And a bite to eat. Couldn't recommend more.
Went in the afternoon for a coffee catchup. Coffee was nice enough and staff were friendly. Did not lrave a lasting impression on me so an average experience all together.
Great local spot with a nice concise wine list. I love spending an afternoon out the front, people watching and reading the newspaper.
Consistently great coffee and excellent cakes with good service. Have also eaten here several times over the year's and its always been really good. Quintessential Melb cafe culture at it's best.
Great food and drinks away from the busier parts of the city. Excellent place to catch up with a friend or enjoy a nice night with your partner.
Phenomenal selection of wines (both gls&btl) ; personable and knowledge staff, along with classic wine bar food. Best place in the CBD to get a glass of wine.
Excellent service by a young French guy, "superb" what more can l say about sitting outside on an amazing Autumn day in one of the best locations for food and wine in Melbourne
First rate! Charcuterie platter was very well done. Often I find good core ingredients contrasted against excessively acidic pickled items. This was a well flavored yet harmonious combination. List of by-the-glass wines was spot on. Importantly, the prices are reasonable and our experience with the bar staff was that they have a good appreciation of matching food and the wines on offer. Good job.
Perfect place to get unconventional wines. If you want to go off tracks and challenge your palate, that's the place.
