City Oval Hotel

Was with a 2 table group, was so loud we were shouting across the table (being pitched to a younger crowd I think) very expensive for what I received - 3 dried out very average prawns on a bit of green stuff for $16 with a 20 cent size dab of mayo. Other guests at my table all very disappointed with their starters. The chips were hot & well cooked. So many dining choices in Ballarat so I will not be returning

Almost perfect but calamari was crazy small for the price, literally about 5 pieces. Felt a bit ripped off. All the other meals were great though.

We had a wonderful dining experience with a large group. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and the service was excellent. We will be back for sure!

We ordered two porterhouse steaks (rare) with peppercorn sauce on the side. The steaks came out well done and one of them had the sauce all over it. When the waitress came and asked if everything was OK, we explained the situation and she apologised saying that she thought there had been a mix-up. After conferring with management she returned and offered a free dessert, which we declined. It was a shame because the place has potential.

I enjoyed the atmosphere, new renovation is beautiful. Good service. I had chicken Parma. Sadly the food was salty. Even the salad- the main flavour was salt. True for 2 out of 4 of us. One of us did have the calamari and she said it was beautiful.

Not much of a variety on the mains menu, average meals, over priced, kids waited almost an hour for their food, waitress came back 4 times to check what meals were yet to come out as the kitchen staff had told them they had already been taken out, very disappointing, will not be returning

Terrible! No moscato at all. Shirt staffed, 1.5 hours to get meals inc kids meals. Ver priced! Won't be back

A young lady Lana was her name she was amazing she done everything and nothing was not to much trouble for her my hubby 60th was great

Larna and Lilly were the best bar staff I've come across in recent years. Super helpful and went out of their way to ensure I had a good night. Friendly locals and a great pub overall. Thanks again, girls.

We ate here for the first time in many years. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband had the Pork belly, I had the Calamari and our 5yr old had the kids steak. Absolute perfection. Thanks so much. Will definitely dine in again.

Lovely clean rooms, exactly what you expect. The service is excellent, the staff friendly and efficient. The hotel bar / a restaurant is very quaint and has lovely atmosphere. Barman pours a great lemon lime bitters

Good food and friendly efficient service. A very pleasant evening meal. A bit pricier than other places I think. Parking was free, close and easy. Only a couple of vegetarian options. Otherwise an expansive menu. 2 for 1 dessert option was a bonus.

Tuesday night dinner with five of us. Very ordinary over priced food. They will never have to worry about any of us darkening their doors again. Remember good news gets to five bad news gets to thirty five

Still staying here.
Very clean, elegant & sophisticated hotel with lots of technology in use.
Comfortable to stay and beautiful views to wake up to. Amazing quality of toiletries.
So central & easy to get to most places.
Many restaurants within minutes from the hotel.

Waited nearly 1and half hours for meal still no here. Took money and did not advise of long wait. Not good enough.

Robert thank you for the free deserts they were great but when you came out when we were leaving requesting that we pay for the main meals that we had paid for on ordering I was a bit taken aback because we would have not waited that long if we had not already paid the meals were good when we finally received them.

Booked table early in week when we got there had to share with strangers,
Not good idea with covid around very uncomfortable, then one of us had to wait an hour for meal, then it wasn't what we ordered, meals were very plain,

Great pub on the corner of Mair St and Pleasant St North in Ballarat. Food and service was good, servery window to the street for orders, sit on the street under the awning and watch the world go by, beautiful cars, people and footy at the oval on the corner.

A real gem of a pub with a comfortable atmosphere and welcoming publican! Fantastic food and friendly service - we’ll be back next time we are in Ballarat.

Went in here for the first time recently and I was impressed. The lady that greeted my mum and I was absolutely brillant and the food was cooked perfect!
